In fact we are traveling in the car & I saw it and got excited. My husband & I discussed what we were going to bid but the suite we wanted to bid on was not there! Then a few hours later I checked it again and poof! It was all gone! They are messing with me!! [emoji23]

  2. As with any other new program, the glitches still need to get worked out. I’m not sure why so many people are getting upset with the system, when a few months ago the option didn’t even exist! HAHA! Oh well.....

Not upset necessarily, just trying to understand exactly what the issue is. I was told twice that it was a technical issue, once that I would be able to bid in a week (by phone reps) and then just got an email saying that I was not eligible. I would rather they just tell me I was not eligible up front instead of giving me the "run around". I have never bid before for a room. Was interested in seeing what it all entailed. Maybe they will fix this spa situation in the near future.

  3. I really think the solution to the Spa problem is to break out spa balconies and spa mini-suites into their own separate categories (the way each of the Havens are their own category). If someone in a spa bids on a non-spa upgrade, give them a big, in-your-face, pop up warning them that they will lose their spa privileges. If they bid on a spa upgrade, then no warning necessary. And it would be nice for people in non-spa rooms to be able to bid up to the spa version of their same meta. So someone in a normal balcony could bid up to a spa balcony, even though it's technically still in the "balcony" meta.

Sounds "logical" to me!:D I wish they would.

  4. "Dear Diane,

Thank you for emailing the website technical support department for Norwegian Cruise Line and we apologize for any inconvenience.

We checked with our Upgrade Advantage department regarding your eligibility for the program.

Unfortunately your cabin type “Spa Mini-suite” is currently excluded from participation.

We are currently looking at changes to the program which may allow bids for this type of cabin in future.

If you become eligible for the program, we will send you an email with instructions, or you will see an option to bid when you login to your online account.

In the meantime, if you would like to explore other upgrade options, please contact our Reservations department for assistance."

Finally got the official email from the NCL tech dept about bidding. It is as we suspected-excluded from participation-not a tech issue.

  5. I think the moderators removed the troll. Thank you.

I drink the ships water and do just fine. Now flying for long periods of time makes me swell up as well as rich salty food, but not ships water. I bring my own metal water bottle and take it on excursions. I do not buy water on the ship because I do not need to, not because of the price. The water on the ship is perfectly fine for our consumption. It is actually delicious. Get a pitcher of ice and use it after it melts for your water bottle. No one can convince me that the water on the ship is laced with salt.

  6. Have you got proof that the water is "sodium laced"? There are other agents involved in water retention than sodium, mainly the chlorine, and also the lack of magnesium and potassium from water produced in evaporators, which is distilled water.

Water produced in evaporators (majority of water produced onboard) has less than 10ppm of sodium (the unit rejects water with a higher level and diverts it to sea), water produced by reverse osmosis has less than 20ppm of sodium (again the unit will divert to sea at this level), while municipal water from ports where water may be bunkered have water quality reports that say: Miami (30-50ppm) and NYC (40-70ppm), and even Honolulu water has reported 44ppm sodium.

So water produced on the ship has less sodium than Miami or NYC. Thank you Mr. Cheng for always being the voice of reason. I have learned a lot from your posts.

  7. Best thing to do is enable notifications on your credit card to your cell phone. That's always how I find out our bid has won. We were shopping the other day when it came thru that we were upgraded to haven. My notification was about 2 hours before the email. And it was at I guess 39 days out on a Tuesday

Also I had just put the bid in Sunday night. I had pulled all my bids a few weeks ago because there was a medical chance I was going to have to cancel our trips. So once I got the all good from my doctor, I decided on a whim on Sunday night to put in bids. The bids I placed were much lower by hundreds of dollars compared to my original bids. So it's a win win for us :)

Congratulations! You had a spa cabin right? So did you upgrade to a spa Haven suite?

  8. Have you thought about doing an end of the cruise tour booked through Norwegian?

You would set your bags out the night before, be gathered in a specific place on board ship, be guided off, get your bags, go through Customs, directed to the correct bus and off you go. You end at the airport about 2 P.M.

I have done it several times and works well for me. Beats sitting in the airport longer than necessary. Sometimes getting through the ticket counters and Security screening is a pain if more than one ship is disembarking passengers at the same time like Miami.

I will look into it. Thanks.
