Sorry, I thought you wanted the long haul flight v cruise proof.

I can't give you proof today in the same way that I can't give you proof that the government are changing their stance on cruising because its not been announced to the public but instead is being discussed in the industry. Throughout this whole saga, I've tried to share snippets of information ahead of time that won't get me or anyone else into trouble. It does however mean that I can't always offer up the proof at the same time.... that it doesn't mean its not true.

I hope my track record with cancellations, Oceana sale, Iona progress and handover proves that my information is generally reliable.

Thank you, so its all still at the discussion stage, but maybe a little more advanced, not doubting your sincerity, just asking a question.

I don't have the piece of research at hand but I've posted it previously.

Some of the points that sprang to mind were:

    • 12 hours sat amongst a plane full of people compared to 5 minutes walking through the ship. On a plane, in economy, you are in close contact (<2m for 15 mins+) with 30ish people whereas can control this on a cruise ship to avoid close contact.
    • You can escape to your own cabin/balcony on a cruise ship and have access to outside decks which need no artificial ventilation.
    • You sit further apart when unmasked (eating/drinking etc.) on a cruise ship.
    • 99% of air is fresh on a cruise ship compared to 80% every 5 minutes on a plane.
    • It is possible to socially distance on a cruise ship. Its not on a place. That's without considering mask wearing.
    • All cruise ships carry doctors and medical equipment superior to planes.

When I find the research article I will post but it was independently carried out by a university not connected with cruising.

The question was, where is the proof that the UK government accepted that argument?

Thanks Mercury, but I can't keep my mouth wide open enough for an injection to be given. Silly really,  because when I was young, I had no problems at all. The gag reflex seems to have crept up on me in my late 40s.

On the bright side, I haven't had to pay a dentist for almost 20 years!

    Wowzz

You do not have to these days, they have a gadget with keeps it open for you so no gagging!

Think car jack, but much, much smaller

    Well, we’ve done it

Bought our caravan on the coast - but not absolutely on the coast.  Our view from the decking, as we sip our sundowner tipples, will be rural.

Due to be delivered in February, ready for the start of the season in March

I’ll be able to while away the winter closing doormats and tea towels for the van! 😂

Enjoy, we have for the last 26 years. Owned several in the same place and on the same plot.

I'm a complete wreck when it comes to dentists, and apart from an extraction in Spain, aided by valium, I haven't really seen a dentist for almost 20 years. When we returned to the UK I did register at the local dentist, but the dentist couldn't even do a quick check, as I kept gagging and coughing.

However, I'm pretty sure that I will need some work done sooner or later.  So, my question  is, has anyone out there had dental work done under sedation? There appears to be two types: gas and air, or intravenous drip. If anyone could give me their experiences I would be extremely grateful.

(And yes, I know I'm an elderly man, and shouldn't be such a wimp!)

    Wowzz

Had gas as a youngster twice, fear was a great problem. Decided to face it head on and accept the injections, sometimes uncomfortable but easily manageable, especially when having my hand held by a pretty nurse.I have no fears going these days.

Jean you need to visit, it is a lovely place.  My husband persuaded me to go there many years ago because it was his favourite holiday destination when he was a child, until I went there my favourite place was South Devon because we always went to visit my grandfather's family there when I was a child.

Can confirm that, my other place, to which we have escaped to, overlooks Southwold, can clearly see the lighthouse.

    But don,t tell everyone!

In good times you do snagging on the run line with a new build house. You don’t cancel a cruise. In times like these you want it perfect on handover.

Iona has been finished externally for best past of a year. In that time she has broadly been sat in one of two places. Ships are made to move - they don’t like sitting still., it causes extra maintenance.

    Maybe it has been liming!

    Not leaking!

    Great loyal supporters.

Dalton Park Retail outlet is now on the Murton Colliery site.

The Sunderland Stadium of Light was built on the site of Wearmouth Colliery.

First visit, not old enough to get in to the Black Cat club, so spent all morning playing football in the car park.

Had paid 26 shilling for return trip on the coach ,from Fulham to the game.

Nice to see you posting as some of us were concerned several regular posters had not posted for a while.

    Graham.

    Graham

Thank you, getting used to escaping, unfortunately not happy with peoples idea of distancing and using masks correctly.

Have played 3 games of golf this week, nice to be able to walk in the fresh air

Preston is on the west coast, we are on the east coast in the same situation, first time at our lodge, here this year.

    Love it!

Not surprised by the latest pause, Sorry that you are already in the situation, in which I fear we are all heading.

    Needs to be done !

    Thank you keep safe!

Keeps you on your toes though doesn't it? 🙂

I don't peel them whole. I cut it into smaller chunks first. I find it easier to peel smaller pieces.

    Whatever it takes!!😴😴

I use my bread knife, and carve as you would a pineapple, then slice and put in the bin!

    Hate the stuff!

Only joking, like you, mix with carrot and sweet potato as a mash, also add horseradish or french mustard, depending on what I am cooking.

    Also goes well with Haggis.

  12. House sitters turned up at 3 pm, Tesco;s delivery arrived at 4.30, got all sorted and arrived at our second home at 7.30.

The smell of the sea air is wonderful.

Niece and boyfriend are house sitting both work from home,so gives them freedom as well.

After 175 days, having a large, sorry, very large glass of wine, on the balcony looking over the sea and looking up at the stars is, unbelievable humbling at this time. Glass is empty, time for a refill!

It seems that age related deafness affects more men than women, I am losing my hearing but I still prefer a table of 6 or 8 although I now find I miss quite a lot, especially you ladies who politely speak in hushed tones. However I would miss the sociability of a large table if they do away with them, or my hearing gets worse.

Are you saying that Ladies that speak, louder then hushed tones, are not bring polite!😅😎😐😇.

    Jesting!

Why 'pardon' Mercury?  I don't understand.

You have been lucky with your table companions, I'm sure I'm not the only one hasn't been. I want to make sure that both Frank and I have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and so we have a table for two in the MDR for all meals. Other than that we socialise around the ship and in the bars. We still enjoy each others company, and after being together for nearly 60 years that's a bonus. Ahh, ain't love grand?🥰

    Avril

    Avril,

Pardon referred to hearing, as mentioned in your post.some fell on stoney ground! Sorry bad attempt at humor!

Emerging from 175 days together, in lock down tomorrow, we must also have the same commitment as you! 47 years.

We do not tend to socialise around the ship, other then pre and post dinner Anderson,s the East Bar and also the Blue Bar which we disliked.

We always do our own thing in port, private tours or nice restaurants for a decent lunch.

On ship, we have a real dislike, to the the organised shows etc and. being asked to give a round of applause for, or to give it up, what ever that means and wave your hands, feel totally embarrassed.in that situation, love people, love company but please do not ever attempt to organised me! or tell me what to do! Avril life is more then grand, had three cruises cancelled this year, and all monies returned, so much more grand, then that.

    Give it up!

    Spoil sport!

Could imagine the staff asking for a round of applause for wowzz, and boof he was gone.

I could have written that myself, it's the same reasons we have  now have a table for two. Frank used to feel very uncomfortable because it was difficult to join in the conversation.  The last time was at breakfast when on Aurora. We had our meal and Frank had chatted a little but finds it frustrating when voices are coming from all sides. We got up to leave and I had turned back to get my glasses, just in time to hear a woman say that she thought he was very rude for ignoring everyone. I told her that he wasn't rude  he had a hearing problem, but if she wanted to see what rude actually did look like, to look in a mirror. I've never told Frank about it, it would have embarrassed him, but we've had a table for two ever since.

    Avril

    Pardon!😎

We actually like a table for 6 or 8 at dinner have met some wonderful guests and have had lot,s of laughs.

Lunchtime is somewhat different, guests seemed to rushing about need to go somewhere. We at lunchtime and at dinner prefer to chill, no problem if table companions need to leave, we will sit and talk to our waiters, and finish our bottle of wine. White always with lunch but we tend to have red with dinner, we do not try to marry it the our food, which is our choice, we always have an evening wine package, and choose our wine the night before, so it is always on our table at arrival. Never look at menu until we sit down.

The lunchtime bottle normally gets raise eyebrows around the table, which makes me smile, and also ask for a wine bucket.

Another poster on FB had just been talking to them about an FCC problem and was told there’s a big meeting next week and to hang on for 10 days before making any decisions and December cruises weren’t looking too good

In my experience, big meetings usually mean job losses.

Forward Strategy is decided by H/Q. not by regional offices.

    Tough times ahead all round.

Interesting comment from another social media site, where a poster was told by P&O that if he did not pay the deposit, he would not be defaulting, and if the cruise was subsequently cancelled he would get his deposit back. No mention as to how long he could wait before finally paying the final balance. Personally,  unless I had this reassurance in writing, I wouldn't believe it.

    Wowzz

    Bin tired!

I think you mean the balance?
