  1. First, I'd use a TA to assist with travel plans and bookings. It'll save you a lot of headaches. And believe me, there will be many.

Second, I'd contact the person at Princess responsible for setting up private events. Here's the list as I have it. It may not be current.

    As of 5-April-2013:

    Jenny Streeck - Sapphire & Grand jstreeck@princesscruises.com 661-284-4444

    Diana Hall - Diamond & Star -- dhall@princesscruises.com 661-284-4449

    Jan James - Golden, Ocean & Pacific jjames@princesscruises.com 661-284-4452

    Berna Grayr - Emerald & Ruby bgrayr@princesscruises.com 661-284-4448

    Coleen Reyes - Crown & Carribean creyes@princesscruises.com 661-284-4447

    Stacey Anderson - Royal, Dawn & Sun sanderson@princesscruises.com 661-284-4333

    Lawrence Andrada - Island, Coral & Sea landrada@princesscruises.com 661-284-4445

They will confirm a location and time as it'll depend on the number of people and the CD's plans, usually just a few months before the cruise. You can request a location, day and time but it has to be OKd by the CD.

The only ship to have Skywalker's removed was the Grand due to design and structural issues. All Grand-class ship designs were modified after the Grand was launched.

Thanks - already spoke to a contact at Princess - (not the same as the one you list)..... We have been given a "group number" ....We are estimating 120- 125 people...

  2. Hi - the Class of 1965 is planning a (50 year !!!) Class reunion cruise in March 2015 - My DH is really looking forward to it - we are in contact with the organizers - and are wondering if anyone has had an experience working with Princess to plan such an event. It's just one of those 3-day from LA cruises - wondering if they will plan something up in Skywalkers (is Skywalkers still on the Golden - or did they remove it in the last dry-dock - doesn't look like it) ...anyway does anyone have any experience with a class reunion on a short cruise with Princess ?? ( Photographers, cocktail party, etc. ???)

    THANKS !!

  3. Eat at 6 pm or earlier? Surely that's a time for Afternoon Tea, not dinner? Lol (sorry, the Brit in me speaking), we never eat before 8pm here.

In the UK only old people eat before 6 pm....

ha ha ha ha ha !! - Guess we are truly OLD PEOPLE (not that I didn't know that already)

You are right - when we traveled in Europe last summer - we were surprised about the lateness of the "dinner hour"

  4. Seems to me (if I remember correctly !) - we received a bottle of wine EVERY night that we were in a specialty restaurant - because we booked in advance - and we requested an "early" time (6:00 PM each time)

The server told us (IF I remember correctly) that anytime you reserve a dining time at 6:00 or earlier - you get a free bottle of wine...this was 2 years ago - so maybe things have changed ????

  5. We stayed at the Crown - took the hotel shuttle to the subway station -

went to the Sunrise Deli for a sandwich (yum !) - walked to the Circle Boat tour pier - when we finished the tour - walked back to the subway - took it to the end - had a great dinner in China Town - took to bus back to the hotel

Just wanted to THANK YOU again for all of your wonderful advice - everything was GREAT !

  6. We use a night light in the bathroom that only works when the lights are off. At night, we leave the bathroom door open so the light acts as a soft green beacon and provides adequate light when the door is closed. You could plug in another one in behind the TV if you wanted a soft night light in the cabin.

The cost was $2 at Big Lots.

This is going to sound dumb -I always take a night-light - but have

NEVER found a place to plug it in - in the bathroom - where is

    that plug-in located ???

  7. our trip was at 12:30. We left the hotel at 10. Shuttle ride is about 15 minutes, train about 30. Had time to go to sunrise deli, sit down and eat (one of the greatest grilled cheese plus tomato sandwiches in the usa plus great east coast pickles). Then i hailed a cab from the corner of 42nd and 7th to take us to circle line. We paid $10 including tip. My friend cannot walk very far or i would have walked it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!

  8. How to get to the train and the Circle Line cruise:

I generally stay at the Crowne Plaza or the Marriott at LGA (almost monthly business trips to NYC) Across the road from each other. 3.5* BIDDING on Priceline-usually less than $125.00. Quikbook has also had the Crowne Plaza for less than $125 for quite a while. Quickbook calls it the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel but it is the Crowne Plaza. The Crowne has better food.

The Crowne has a shuttle to the train station free. Just ask at the front desk 1/2 hour BEFORE you need the shuttle. You take the #7 train into Manhattan. Train will end at Times Square. Come up out of the subway and you are at the corner of 42/Broadway and 7th Ave. IF you want food, go very slightly south on 7th Ave (about 3 doors from 42nd on the East side of the street). IMHO-best deli in Times Square. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/sunrise-delicatessen/

Then walk or cab it WEST until you can't go any further. Circle Line is right there on the Hudson River. The 3 hour Circle Island Tour is REALLY good-Statue of Liberty PLUS the East side of Manhattan which few see from the water-UN, Gracie Mansion (who would have thought the Mayor of NY lived in a YELLOW southern plantation house) plus all the bridges, and islands. We couldn't get completely around Manhattan in January but as many times as I have taken a Circle Line tour (usually the 2 hour one), I was really impressed with this one.

To get back to the hotel after you have done your cruise (and hopefully a little more sightseeing-you are right there in Times Square, the ESB is just a short walk away), get back on the #7 train and take it to Flushing/Main station. Come up out of the subway and you are in the largest Chinatown in the USA. May want to look around for a few minutes. LOTS of Chinese, Koren and Paki restaurants in the area if you like that food. Taxi is about $10 back to the hotel but I had a very hard time flagging one down (and I am very good at flagging taxis). Otherwise, get on the bus-Q48 (bus stop directly in front as you come up out of the subway) and the bus will drop you off in front of the hotel. We got on the bus. Told the bus driver we needed to go to the Crowne Plaza and she made sure we got off at the proper place.

You can book most everything in advance. Circle Line has a nice website outlining all their cruises. Good luck and enjoy!!!

You are just wonderful !! - I will print this all out, and take with us..

Just one more question - approximately how much time should we allow to get from the hotel - to the Circle Island tour location - if we book tickets in advance - just want to make sure we allow enough time to get there

    THANKS !!!

  9. You will be really hard pressed for time to do this before your cruise. Most of the Circle Line trips don't start until at least 10AM, last for a couple of hours. If you are doing this in the fall/winter, the trips start even later-11AM and later. I just did the 3 hour Circle Line tour on Jan 15.

IF you are really, really organized, you could stay at any hotel in Chelsea (Doubletree is very nice), take a taxi to the EARLIEST of the tours, go back to the hotel for just a few minutes and then go to the cruise port. But one little glitch and you may miss the cut off time for your cruise (most likely at least 90 minutes BEFORE scheduled departure time-may even be 2 hours.

Just fly in a day earlier, stay at the Crowne Plaza or Marriott at LGA, I can tell you how to take the train in to the city and back (very easy and very cheap and lets you off about 1 mile from the Circle Line terminal). Then relax the morning of your cruise and take a taxi directly to RedHook.

OK - you convinced me - We'll change to arriving a day earlier ! - Thank you ! - how do you take the train ??

Really, really appreciate your help !!

  10. Please help - we are arriving into La Guardia the night before we depart from Brooklyn (Red Hook) pier (Caribbean Princess). The one thing that my DH really, really wants to do is take the Circle Boat tour, in the morning, prior to the cruise. (we went on it 30 years ago, last time in NY)

Where should we be looking for a hotel (what area ?) - Is there a hotel that we can stay in - take the tour - then go back to the hotel - then arrange transportation to the cruise port ?

    Thanks !!

  11. Hi - (Sorry if you already answered this in a previous post !)

There will be 4 of us - disembarking from the Grand Princess on February 14 in Ft. Lauderdale - need transportation from the cruise termimal to the FLL Airport to catch a 10:30 AM flight back to Arizona

What transportation do you recommend ?

    THANK YOU !!

  12. How do I know the credit has been applied to my booking?

Give the talented Yield Management representative a couple of business days to apply the credit; after that...

    1. Login to My Princess

    2. Under the Circle Savings Account heading on the middle of the left side of the page, click View Details

    3. Scroll down to the Account Summary heading and click the Onboard Credits tab; you'll see the credits for each upcoming sailing, listed by a Credit ID#, referencing your booking number.

If you don't see your credits after five business days, contact Yield Management.

You don't always see it in your Circle Savings Account. If you mailed in the copy of the proof of stock ownership, etc. AFTER you have made your final payment - you receive a statment (email from Princess) that shows you have an OBC (in our case $250.00) - when I asked about it not appearing online in our Circle Savings Account - I was told that I would not see it there - since my account had already been posted with the credit....

  13. I guess the Diamond Princess and the Sapphire Princess are sister ships. Are the aft cabins for the Sapphire and Diamond the same configuration as on some of the other Princess ships in these threads? I splurged on stern cabin E733 (haven't told my wife yet that I upgraded from a mini-suite for an additional $2K). After reading some of these threads I'm wondering if I made the right decision. I think I may still have time to change to maybe a PS. I thought being aft and cuising along looking at the wake would be pretty cool. If I'm going to be looking out of our cabin at a beam, though, I don't know.......

We were in the Hong Kong Suite (Emerald 733) on the Diamond in February - yes - there is a "dreaded" Beam on the balcony - cutting the balcony into 2/3's and 1/3 - it does make the balcony seem smaller - the 1/3 of the balcony on the one side of the beam is virtually useless - too small for chairs, etc.
