  1. Welcome @Scott-23 to the Cruise Critic website and the message board forums! Pinned threads (aka Stickies) appear at the top of a forum's first page of threads. The pinned thread in this Italy Ports forum mentioned above is titled Hotels in Rome. Click this blue embedded link Hotels in Rome to go directly to that thread. Please note it has been active since July 26, 2020 so it is a verrrry looooong thread and you will see loooots of information and conversation. The Cruise Critic website and message boards are a great resource for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for the various message board forums. Just click the blue embedded link to go directly to the list. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there. Please note we have a forum just for helping members. To go there, please click the following embedded link: Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! Again, there are numerous pinned threads on the top of the first page of threads regarding many "How to" topics for using the message board forums. If you have any other questions for that forum, just use the Start new topic button to start a new thread on the forum. If you want to comment on an existing thread on that forum that has not been locked, use the Reply to this topic button. But before you post a new thread in any forum, browse through the thread titles on the forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. Anytime you need to start a new thread/topic on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will reply to you. And of course, you will have some members that post just to join in on the conversation. We are a chatty bunch! Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you. Want to let you know the specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your line, ship and sail date will be the place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before your cruise. Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread for your specific cruise line ship and sail date. Especially those that have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, there may be excursion or transportation share requests to save money posted in your Roll Call thread. Roll Call threads are the only place where share requests are allowed on the Cruise Critic message boards. There is a "captive audience" on your Roll Call thread since you are all sailing together! To explain our Roll Call threads, please click What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please click the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the Guidelines we all agree to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships. We also have a Cruise Critic article you might enjoy so click 8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call. So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! Happy sails, Host Kat

  3. Welcome @Kath Hughes back to the message boards! I see it has been a while since you have posted on the boards. 4. Welcome @WimT48 to Cruise Critic and the message board! Click here for your Roll Call thread: Zuiderdam June 11-July 22, 2023 41-Day Spitsbergen, Icelandic Fjords & Viking Passage Since you did not indicate your debarkation date, please note the following in post #14: HAL hasn't made things easier by taking several of Zuiderdam's voyages and combining them into several B2Bs, most of which overlap. The trip this Roll Call is about is actually two voyages: - 21-Day Spitsbergen & Icelandic Fjords Explorer, June 11-July 2, and - 20-Day Viking Passage, July 2-22 Because HAL's paired most segments of Zuiderdam's voyages into pairs, and has allowed those pairs to overlap, it's very confusing, especially if you're taking voyages that are in two different pairings. Argh! Hope this will be helpful! Just click the link I posted above. Read through the thread to get to know the others sailing with you. The specific Roll Call thread for your cruise is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other. 5. @kcdancerkc I have removed the dead links from your signature. The Cruise Critic Countdown Clock can no longer appear in member signatures. Therefore, the dead code needed to be removed. I just used my Backspace key to erase the code. I notice you did not Follow this new thread of yours. I suggest you use the Follow feature on any threads where you are interested in the replies. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new replies because they will come looking for you as notifications when new replies are posted. If you need information on how to do it, please click here How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info). And a friendly reminder to all reading this thread, please note the following from the Posting & You! section in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships: Signatures Cruise Critic has the following suggestions for keeping your online signatures manageable: Keep your images to around three (approx) -- which would include a picture, clipart, photo or your countdown. Try not to have any one image that is TOO large, which then takes additional time for your fellow members to download, If you have a LONG LIST of prior cruises, think about chopping off some, OR rearrange them horizontally rather than vertically; From time to time, browse through your signature and eliminate any extra blank lines, or old countdown codes, etc. Cruise Critic reserves the right to remove/delete portions of your online signature and will let you know that we've had to resize your online signature. I sincerely hope the above information will be helpful to all and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! Happy sails, Host Kat
  6. Galveston Cruise Terminal Getting $53 Million Makeover FYI: Terminal 25 was previously known as Terminal 1.
  7. @travelpatty Welcome back to posting on the boards! I see it has been a while since you have posted. I looked at your previous post made today on the MSC Seaview Roll Calls forum. You posted a reply on an old Roll Call thread for a 2021 cruise. I split your post out of that old thread and made the new Roll Call thread for your cruise sail date with your post. I first used the Roll Call Finder Tool at the top of the Roll Calls forum to see if there was an existing Roll Call thread for your sail date and did not find one. Click here MSC Seaview July 5-12, 2023 Civitavecchia to go directly to the new Roll Call thread for your cruise. Now just sit back and wait for your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you to look for the Roll Call thread and then post replies. I notice you did not Follow this new thread of yours. I suggest you use the Follow feature on any threads where you are interested in the new reply posts, especially your Roll Call thread. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new reply posts because they will come looking for you as notifications when new reply posts are posted. If you need information on how to do it, please click here How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info). Hope this will be helpful and glad to have you back aboard the Cruise Critic message boards! Happy sails, Host Kat
  8. @spearmint Yes, that is the way it works... according to how you have set your Notifications. Personally, I no longer use email for Cruise Critic notifications. I have all mine set to Notification List. Then when I first login to Cruise Critic, I just click the Notifications Bell (to the left of my user name over the small Search bubble) to get the clickable list for all of mine. Works for me & I love the fact I am not drowning in emails! Click your user name located upper right over the small Search bubble in the blue bar. Next, click Account Settings. Under Other Settings, click Notification Settings. On the next page to appear, click Mentions & My Content and Followed Content. Click the little down arrow to open each section and make sure each item is set for your preference. Also, click this link: Manage Followed Content You will see a list for Topics I Follow. To the right of each topic you can select change preference and make your choice OR you can completely unfollow the topic. You can also check the boxes next to each topic to make changes to multiple topic notification preferences at once. If you use our Gallery Feature, make sure to look at the left of the page when you are viewing your managed content. There is a menu there to select the tabs for albums and images to choose how you receive notifications for items you follow there. Yes, all members have to be logged in to start a new thread or to post a reply on an existing thread. Especially our Roll Calls since they are for members only. Anyone can browse our boards, but they must be registered and logged in to read and post. When I first became a Host, this Help forum was the only forum that did allow new threads to be started by someone that was not a member or a non-logged in member. It was that way to help everyone. I think that ceased on this forum a loooong time ago.
  9. Thank you for your new thread on the Ask a Cruise Question forum. It is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. 18. @jerry obean Hello Jerry and Elaine! Thank you for starting the Roll Call thread! However, I had to edit the Roll Call thread title to the format mentioned in How To: Create A New Roll Call as follows: When you create a new ROLL CALL topic, you MUST include the sail date in the subject line, and here's the suggested format: Example: January 1, 2016 Please note the suggested date format with the month first and spelled out completely will ensure your new Roll Call topic appear in search results The Roll Call thread is now 12 N Celebrity Solstice , departs HK November 16, 2023. That way future Roll Call members will be able to find the Roll Call thread when using the Roll Call Finder Tool that appears at the top of the Celebrity Solstice Roll Calls forum. Here is a clip: I sincerely hope this will be satisfactory! Happy sails. Host Kat
  19. @spearmint Howdy again Bill! Please note what CC Help Michell states in my post #12 above, especially the part I have in bold: I wanted to give you a head's up that over the next few weeks we are transitioning to a system requiring everyone to log into the boards using the email address in their profile, rather than their user name. This is for log in only; posts will still carry the user name and no email is visible onsite to the public unless a member chooses to post their email address (which we do strongly discourage). You are not alone. Other members experienced the same thing last summer. Perhaps the pinned thread by LauraS, Senior Manager Community, toward the top of the first page of this forum will be helpful: Hope this additional information will be helpful! Host Kat
  20. @Marylebone37 Please note the following portion of the Who are Community Hosts? The Community Manager? section in the Guidelines: "... The Community Manager has overall control of everything that happens within the Community. The Community Manager oversees how the board is styled, what forums to create and how to organize them, is responsible for our Rules of Participation, what information to require from members and who to appoint as Community Hosts. You may contact the Community Manager at: community@cruisecritic.com..." Send an email regarding your suggestion to LauraS, Senior Manager Community, at community@cruisecritic.com. She can then contact the Editorial Dept. Note the following from the About Us page of the Cruise Critic website: Editorial Mission At Cruise Critic we aim to provide balanced, unbiased reporting and take our journalistic credibility seriously. It is central to the aim of the site to provide you, the reader, with an accurate and reliable resource on all aspects of cruising, and we do so by pairing our editorial content with thousands of reviews from our members of the site. Cruise Critic accepts advertising, but it remains strictly impartial from an editorial standpoint – something which is made clear to all advertisers. 23. @texasatty Howdy from a fellow Texan! You can also hover your cursor over their user name or avatar (Profile Photo) on one of their posts. A small screen will appear. On the bottom of the screen click Ignore in the small light blue button. You will not see the ignored member's posts in the future. However, if anyone quotes any of the ignored member's posts you will see the quotes. If you use the Follow feature for any threads or forums, when the ignored member posts on the followed thread or forum you will not get a notification of their post. 24. Well folks, hopefully the following will be helpful. It is what we Hosts rec'd 4/18/23: Good morning everyone! I hope wherever you are spring has sprung and you are enjoying lovely weather! I wanted to give you a head's up that over the next few weeks we are transitioning to a system requiring everyone to log into the boards using the email address in their profile, rather than their user name. This is for log in only; posts will still carry the user name and no email is visible onsite to the public unless a member chooses to post their email address (which we do strongly discourage). Right now we have an announcement running on the right side of forum pages (in green), and when folks log in they are notified that in the next several weeks email log in rather than user name will be required. Eventually that will change to a prompt to log in with their email and user names won't work. This change is due to some transitions on our site to a SSO system. So all members, including all of us, will be logging in with the email attached to our user names. We've asked via announcements for all members to check their emails in their profiles and to update them if needed. The big news on that is that updating email addresses is now a self-serve thing! Here is Laura's post about how to check your email address, and update it if needed: If you have any problems with this or need help from me, please let me know! As always, thanks again for all you do! Michell You can reach CC Help Michell, Community Support Assistant, at help@cruisecritic.com. Send the email from your current Cruise Critic email address of record and mention your user name. Happy sails, Host Kat
  25. So sorry about my previous post in this thread. No one gave me notice regarding the future change utilizing email address instead of member name to log into Cruise Critic. To all reading this thread, CC Help Jenn now has other job duties & is no longer using help@cruisecritic.com. That email address is now for @CC Help Michell Community Support Assistant.
