  1. It depends on the cruise line. With Carnival, we do the faster to the fun program and board early. With RCCL, we wait until last minute. We are going out of San Juan on our next one and since it doesn't leave until late, not sure what we will do between hotel check out and boarding.

  2. I was on this sailing and had GREAT service at the Alchemy bar!! Stayed on deck 11 and yes the ship was a rockin but It didn’t bother us at all.

Overall, this cruise was one of the best!

Man, it kept us awake that night it was so loud and rough. It wasn't a bad cruise for us, just didn't think the ports where what I was expecting. It's not Carnival's fault though. Overall it was decent, just not my favorite itinerary thus far. I do like Carnival though. They do a good job.

  3. How do you feel they handled the situation? From here on land it seems Carnival did as well as they could considering the circumstances.

A refund and 50% future cruise credit seems fair, but then I didn't go through it.

I think Carnival did a great job with how they handled it. If I was affected then I would be pleased with their solution. They did what they could. I know people that were affected and they feel the same way.

  4. I was on the Dream and got off Sunday. It was the flooded one. We were on the Lido forward so the flooding didn't affect us. But they did cut power to part of the deck. We saw some of the mess from the flood and it wasn't so fun for many people. It did create a small waterfall down the atrium. The first day a kid was opening a door and the wind caught it, slammed the finger in the door cutting it off. Could not be reattached. On a Belize tender, one of the tender drivers was going too fast and hit a wave causing a bench to break. There were some elderly people on it and they crashed into each other causing some injuries. One night the swells were so high that you could feel the ship raise up and slam down into the water. Sounded like a bomb went off. Service in the Alchemy Bar was much to be desired. If you weren't "one of the favorites" don't expect to get much service. Food was just meh. We did not enjoy the itinerary so we won't be doing it again but that isn't Carnival's fault. Just thought all the stops were kind of blah. Minus a few mishaps, it was overall decent. We really enjoyed the shows and the sense of community on board with other passengers. I would sail with Carnival again and my husband agrees. We just like cruises. Even if there are some glitches along the way. I didn't keep our FunTimes but from what I saw with others, they're all about the same.

  5. We just got a 10" fan for our upcoming cruise on the Dream. It's not loud and puts out a good bit of air. I wish I could take a portable a/c unit. We keep our house subarctic temps so I am sure will be hot every night.

  6. I'll take glitzy and sparkles over beige and blah any day. Of course look at my name, figure skating LOVE glitz and sparkle. If it sparkles, I want it. Some people like country flower decor, some like drab color schemes, some like bold colors. Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one.

  7. When I got married the first time it was on RCCL. We got married as a Jamaican excursion. The photographer (an RCCL employee), pictures printed, and the USB drive was over $1200 back in 2007. To make matters worse, the photographer had a smudge on the lens so every picture had this white blur on it. Every. single. picture. After fighting with them, them trying to fix the smudge with editing, and us being angry, we got 50% of our money back. Hindsight, this should have been an omen how the marriage was going to go. Other than this, I have never bought the pics from a cruise because I look horrible in them. Just a bit of a fun story about how $$ this stuff is.

  8. I saw McDonald's was doing the same thing as a test to see if it will make a difference on waste reduction. Can't remember what market was testing it, just that it was a McDonald's.

Also, in all the cruises I have been on, I got sick only from the one and only Carnival cruise and it was the night before disembarkation I started to feel bleh. It wasn't a stomach problem but I ended up with a minor cold. I get colds from the gym, work, the grocery store, and other places I go so it was no biggie.

  9. A year out I make a packing list divided out between my husband and me and another for the dogs (for boarding). I make adjustments during the year. I start getting things ready 5 days before; the non clothing and travel toiletries start getting packed. Our upcoming cruise we leave to head down on Saturday so I will start packing Friday night and Saturday morning. I'll take the dogs to their places and finish my last minute stuff. We will leave Saturday afternoon when my husband gets home from work, Sunday we sail.

  10. The new deli appeared to be a cutback to me. Very slow service and not being able to customize was a huge let down. My wife disliked her grilled ham & cheese and was unable to convince the staff to leave the mayo out. Here is a pic of the chicken sandwich I got twice during a week on the Glory in Jan/Feb. Pretty sad looking sandwich.

Wow, that is the most pathetic chicken sammich ever. Sweet jeez, that wouldn't even be an appetizer. That is more like a tease.

  11. Same! I learned about booking excursions with Carnival and finding the other people that do the same ones for cheaper, then getting Carnival to match. I have learned about the discounted LEGIT gift cards and that saved me tons. I have learned about embarkation lunch and hidden gems on the ships and when to utilize them to save time. Even though there are a bunch of people on here that get in arguments over stupid stuff, it's still a great wealth of information.

  12. Holy moly! I have it for my Dream sailing next month and almost cancelled it. I talked to the hubs and he wanted to keep it so we did. But next time, I would consider not getting it. It is $89.95 on our sailing and sold out as it has been for a while. Next cruise we will just get on at 1:30 or 2 after eating locally. It's not the end of the world to NOT get it. I just wanted to try it this time to see what it was all about. I honestly don't think it would be worth it for us even now, but my husband wanted to keep it.

  13. I bought it for our cruise in April and I think it will be worth it even though it's our first time getting it. If we change our minds, we can cancel and get a refund. Based on the picture PhotoMike took, yeah I think it's going to be worth it. Plus, I am an impatient person soooooo.....

  14. Yeah it almost seem like the beef had been boiled it was dense and waterlogged and flavorless. Yes beef brisket is uniquely Texas style but pulled pork is Carolina all the way until a few years ago you never heard of pulled pork outside of the Carolinas or Virginia now I’ve seen at Subway in California. He has his own brand of signature sauces in one of them is specifically labeled Carolina which one would assume is to be put on the Carolina style pulled pork. Best I can tell there was zero vinegar in it. vinegar is the main ingredient in any Carolina style barbecue sauce as it helps to cut the fat like a solvent and keeps you from getting upset stomach from eating too much pork. The way the meat was prepared poorly I blame on the chefs on the cruise ship however the signature sauces are Guys recipes alone and I unfortunately have to lay the blame at his feet

Not true. Here in Alabama you could get pulled pork 20+ years ago. I would go eat it at Golden Rule BBQ with my parents when I was little, that was more than 25 years ago.

  15. Enjoying the review! I live just south of Bham. As for the Enterprise, yeah I find most of them in Bham to be lazy. It's not just that one. We are going on the Dream end of April out of NOLA and driving to Mobile first, then getting up and heading to NOLA. My MIL lives in Mobile and it's cheaper to stay with her. Plus the weekend we leave is the jazz fest down in NOLA. Hotels are stupid expensive.
