  1. I have multiple reasons that I USED to like Southwest.  Cheapest, I doubt it.  Between the $20 (x4) for early bird check in, our 2 tickets for November we’re about $500 and come to think about it same for our flights in February.

I did like the no change fees and their schedules.

Yes, I “could” book back up flights for another $500.  But, like stated above what’s to prevent the same “problems” from happening to the other airlines.  Not trying to be cheap here but come on.  I’m sailing from San Diego, LA and San Francisco all in the next four months.  I feel like I’m jumping all in again to cruise.   Guess I’ll be happy that at least we’re driving to San Francisco.

  2. @idiebabe I wish it were only a 5 or 6 hour drive.  When I used to live only 150 miles away from San Diego, it once took me closer to 4 hours to drive there in LA traffic.

Now we would be 550 miles from the port.  In winter, with two options to drive there one of them being something called the Donner Pass (remember the Donner Party) lol.  My guess would be closer to 11 hours drive time with minimal stops and “decent” weather.

So FlaMariner, a couple of questions for a seasoned Thermal spa user from absolute newbies. We have never done one thing in the spa with 15 cruises under our belt now. But we ordered the couples pass for our upcoming Rotterdam TA (which you are on). My questions are more in the line of dressing protocol. Do you change there in a changing room (if so, is there a place to put your clothes.), in and out of swimsuits,  or do you wear swimsuit to the spa with a wrap or covering? Do people wear shower shoes/flip-flops when moving around between pool/sauana/steam room, etc? I know those may seem like silly questions, but we've never done it before and just want to know what to expect. Thanks!

I’m not FloMariner, but, I am a spa user.  You sound just like my new/forever hubby the first time he went.  Yes there are separate men’s women’s locker rooms (with very nice shower).  You will get a robe.  I believe they even offer you shower shoes (we always wear our own).  Perfectly acceptable to go into the spa in your bathing suit/cover up.  Yes, we walk around in our flip flops.  Most people wear their robe while lounging on the stone lounger, although I usually open the front as I get too hot.  It was always considerate of people to put towels on the stone bed (especially under your feet).  Now I believe you are expected to wipe down the stone lounger when you get up.

Have a great time, we already bought our passes for the Koningsdam.  P.S.  I loved St. Charles when I visited a friend years ago.

  4. I can only hope they figure out their "problems" in the next month.  We're supposed to fly Reno to San Diego direct the day before our cruise.  Hubby and I were watching/reading about all this last night.  Decided our plan B is, if they are messed up AT ALL.    We just start driving South.

Google said it would be a 9 hour drive to San Diego.  That gave me a pretty big laugh.  If my memory serves me correct it used to be an 8 or 9 hour drive to Santa Clarita.   However, I was happy to see that it was "only" 559 miles or so to San Diego and that the 215 would take us straight through (circumventing) most of the LA area.  YIKES, but we could do it, weather permitting (we just woke up to a drift of snow this morning, we actually live 3 hours North of Reno).  UGHHHH, nope not thrilled at all.

We also have Southwest booked in early February, but I would think their "problems" would be sorted out by then.  I felt bad for one couple I found on the internet that missed their Disney cruise this weekend.  I'm sure we'll hear about more from current cruises.

  5. Thank you Galveston cruiser.  Humm, well since there seems to be some interest in this post, I'll take it a step further.  Would also love to hear any suggestions for the above OUTSIDE of Galveston.  We'll be spending a few weeks in Texas before heading up to South Dakota (also might book a second week cruising).  So anywhere where the motorhome/Harley would be safe and the CAT would be happy (He's used to being boarded at a cat's only "resort" with a 3 level condo, playtime around the aquarium, etc (I KNOW, lol).  So basically we could leave them anywhere where we could still get transportation to the ship (as far as I can tell, rental car drop offs at the port are non-existent right?).  Thanks Y'All

  6. I know, sounds silly, DH lives in it.  On “other lines” it can be difficult to find.  We’re almost ready to book, would just like to know if DH would be able to order an iced tea while enjoying one of those amazing outdoor areas.  Thanks, Happy Sailing everybody!

  7. Any suggestions, we have until June to figure it out, just wondering if anyone has some awesome suggestions.  Talking a 35ft class A with  a 16ft motorcycle trailer (that will have a trike on it lol).  Planning on spending some time camping before or after as well.  Fell in love with Port Aransas last summer.  Then there’s the CAT aka Cruzer, anyone ever use the boarding that’s close to the ship?  Just doing a 7 day, so not end of the world if we have to leave the motor home at an actual park.  No matter what we do we’ll have to have An Uber or something help us drop kitty off (can we even do that?).  Then take us to port (can’t take suitcases in the trike).  Hoping to get some great info from any locals.  Thanks

What is your Lot number?  It's the number on the white label on the box, next to the word "Lot."  (See photo below, lavender arrow.)  You might have to slide the "Do Not Open" sleeve to see the label.

Sorry I was tired and thinking of last weeks research.  ,my lot number is 141804 without any letters after it.  That number only appears on the list with letters after it.  The box expiration has 2021-10-95, I am assuming that this will be good until. January 5 2022.  Will work for November cruise but not for my feb.   At least I will have extras just in case (sorry Defiant).

  9. Sorry Cruisn’mama, can’t be done.  It is considered a “prescription” by emed and can’t be shared. When you buy the six pack you can only put in three traveler names.  But thanks for the offer, I’m not heartbroken, we live in an extremely rural area, this is the best option for us.  I will buy more for our February cruise when I know they have new expiration dates.

  10. We were also unfortunate enough to buy a six pack, that will only be good for our November cruise.  We will have to buy more for our February cruise.  At least we have it, too stressed out about it all.  Still looking forward to the cruise, IF we can get our booster, lol (I wish I could laugh, but we are six months past our second Moderna).  We are bound and determined to go, will be first plane flights and cruise in two years.   So yup, not happy about the expiration dates.  Will stress about the second cruise later.

Not helpful here in East San Diego county. No sites. I’m with Kaiser,  but they only test with a doctors order and not for travel. I guess I go to cvs, but was told $170 there:(

I just went ahead and ordered the Binax now, came to $180 for the six test kits.  Registered both of us.

  12. We would have cancelled our Mexico coming up in November.  However despite ourselves we took a casino offer and paid in full (non refundable).  Plus we also have airfare.   So at this point, planning/hoping to make it.  Going to order the Binax now home test.  Watched the video (posted “somewhere” on CC).  Planning on self isolating at home (not hard for us).  Then doing the video supervised tests on Friday morning .  If negative, print out results, then drive the three hours to Reno where we will be gambling, eating out, spending one night in a hotel, then flying out on Saturday morning to San Diego, for another day of possible exposures.

Then hopefully boarding the Koningsdam on Sunday.  Oh well, for the first time in almost two years I have a cruise to look forward to.  Although, We’re fully prepared for possible cancellation.

You could just start over.  Go get a new shot (and card) and 28 days later get the "second" dose and you're good to go. Assuming you have time before the cruise.

I know right, lol?  But I only want 1 booster shot!  Guess that could be a whole new thread.  We sail 8 months exactly from our second dose.  Hopefully we can get booster at home before we sail to Mexico!

  14. Whatever happened to independent “vaccine passports”. I wish there was one that Hal would accept.  I thought there were companies that will “verify” your vaccination status and provide a QR code!   Already thinking that we’re going to cancel our February Princess cruise.  I want to see how this one goes in November. Also interested in hearing about (COVID testing experiences) in San Diego once HAL starts there.

  15. After reading an interesting thread in the Celebrity forum, I thought I’d start one on here.  We’re sailing on the Koningsdam in November.  Here’s my story of woe regarding my COVID card.   Our home is in California, but hubby and I have been pretty much full timing in our RV for the last year and a half.  Got our first moderna shots in Wheeler county Texas in early February.  Got back to out motor home and saw that both cards had hubby’s name on them.  Called the hospital (the ice storm was just starting) to ask to come replace mine.  They told me, just to cross out hubby’s first name and write in mine.  I said I’d really prefer to replace mine.  They said no, it would be in the Texas Registry.

Second dose was given at a Walgreens in another part of Texas and they wrote my second dose of information on first card.  When we went home a few months ago “reading the writing on the wall” regarding our cruise.  Sent off a request from Texas for my records (hubby’s too).  What we received back was a one sheet piece of paper with the correct information on it, but honestly not really that official looking.  Sent all the above to our health department hoping to get a QR code in California, no such luck.  Texas, is currently not agreeing to “vaccine passports “.  As the days get closer I’m getting more concerned.  Any suggestions?  Any other stories of COVID card woe?
