Source please? I haven’t come across this in the news wires yet. Would appreciate more information share. Thanks.

That’s part of the problem, “main stream news” is behind the times. Sorry I don’t know how to post links or I would.  Beyond the death (of the cruiser who got off the Grand) there are 10 Kaiser Permanente health care workers, being monitored who took care of them).  But don’t worry.  It will all be on the mainstream news soon enough, as the entire ship is going to be investigated.

My cousin was a lecturer on the Diamond Princess.  She was on one of the evacuation flights and is now quarantined at Travis AFB.  She has tested negative (so far...thankfully.)  Her luggage went to a base in Texas, but the Red Cross got essentials for her.  She speaks very highly of Princess and the crew throughout this experience.

I hope everyone gets home well and safely.

Bless you, you are exactly who I was just talking about.  Best wishes for your cousins health.

Exactly, and that’s what makes all this discussion about who did or didn’t do what and, as a result of that, who’s at fault mute. Except for a small minority of people (many of them on this thread), the world doesn’t care whose fault this was.  They just care that it happened, and will remember “Diamond Princess” and, to a lesser extent, “Westerdam” as long as they remember COVID-19 or coronavirus.

Argue what you want, but, to the general population, this has been very, very bad for cruising and, specifically, Princess. Look at it this way:  if the Diamond was a RC ship and you’re loyal to Princess, how would your feelings about what has happened be different?

THANK YOU!  I was composing something similar earlier but was getting too upset.  Unfortunately I’m not sure about the end of your post.  I was reading a heated thread on another forum.  They hadn’t mentioned “our ship” at all.

It is after all ostensibly , OUR ship, I say that as most of us have either :

Cruised on the DP or with some of her CREW on other ships, CREW who are still on there AND could be reading this!

Have family/friends or just people we have come to care about like the Abel’s and others from social media.

Yikes!!, come on, can’t we at least be decent human beings to each other on here.  I haven’t seen this kind of nastiness since all the smoking threads years ago.

Well, yes for the passenger but perhaps not the best for the other 327 million of us.

Why not bring them home, we’ve already got the Westerdam people not to mention tons of others, on their way:

This is just going to get bigger.  DH has a friend who is currently on a celebrity ship.  That ship was originally scheduled to sail from Singapore  to Dubai.  Celebrity said, oh Singapore is a hot spot, let’s change this ship to a round trip Dubai (they did this on a Monday before a Saturday sailing ).  Well guess what, people (I dont know how many) were either already in Singapore or went anyways then flew to Dubai and boarded the ship. AFTER spending days sightseeing in Singapore .  Anyone else see the potential problem here?

Thank you for posting this, I had given up looking.  My heart absolutely breaks for them (For ALL of them).  But I have been following them all along.  I had pretty much figured their silence was “adjusting” to their news.  The thought of being in their shoes makes me cry.

  6. Sorry to be talking so much about Princess.  I actually posted this on the Princess Forum.  It had 30 views in 30 minutes, and moved here (I never realized this section existed).  I posted on the Princess Forum as there has been a lot of discussion on multiple threads about insurance while discussing the DIamond Princess mess.

Ok so moved here, is everyone talking about insurance over here?  Any answers for me? Thanks.

    Tammy

  7. So, I was very lucky not getting insurance for 25years of cruising (just a couple times when cruising solo).

Then husband was injured two days before a cruise (not only lost money but got charged by travel agency for NOT taking the cruise) have bought insurance since, but never had to use it.

Would love to understand everything better.  What is this cancel for any reason Princess insurance being talked about on the Diamond Princess thread?  I know elite gets a discount right?  What about other insurance companies?  When I have booked insurance in the last it was mostly out of concern for air lifts etc.  Has anyone figured out what companies offer what?  Are we allowed to have a thread discussing this all in one place?  Especially the pandemic exclusions now?  Thanks

there is an American live streaming from the ship...watched a bit of it....sorry but this quarantine is a bit bizarre. This couple has opened the balcony to their neighbors and they  all pass back and forth no masks...no nothing.  Also they are out talking to other neighbors who are close enough to get on the video...lots of them...sorry but I would not assume the others don't have it.

Can you tell me how to find this?  Hubby and I have been watching the live-streaming of the British couple. But would like to hear someone else.

Copying this entire post into my trip file for July...only question I have is....we are not a quiet bunch we would like to lounge at a place with a little action, you know music and such (will have 7 kids and teens)  Should we try another restaurant to hang at with our crew? any suggestions?

Hum, someone else might be able to comment on the restaurants in the middle of the beach.  But I honestly don’t think any of them “rock the music” like on Cabo.  My thought would still be to go to the end.  Lettys seems to draw the Mariachis for a little while, then they seem to leave.  Good luck, have a great time!

Was it $4pp to the ferry shack or $4 per cab?  Thank you!

Hubby said it was $4 dollars total (he gave him $5).  He got that price outside of the security gate.  Just be firm, you will find someone willing to take you, it is a VERY short ride.  The driver tried to stop on the street but hubby pushed and said no, to the shack (as was the agreement) and the driver obliged..

  11. Lighthouse on Stone Island?

hum, just to follow up to my above post.  After the cruise in October we decided to go back again and do a back to back.  Did the exact same thing both times.  The first week we had 18 cruisers we met follow DH and I .  It was a riot, we had to split up, to “lead” the groups.  We all made it in one piece.  DH led a group that included several handicapped.  One with a walker.  They rented a taxi for $4 , that took them to the ferry shack.  They made it to Carmelitas where we had several able bodied people who helped him get out to the beach and even into the water later.   A couple of ship workers even met up with us (then came back the next week again).

Everyone had a blast.  The second week we had 4 couples go with us.

a side recommendation to anyone going mid November thru ?  The last week we went, the water seemed different and there was a definite need for water shoes as there were nasty spiky shells on the beach.  Happy sailing everyone!

  12. Thanks, everyone has been so nice.  Okay so a few more silly questions.  It’s been a LONG time since doing a b2b and new hubby (newer cruiser this will be his third, lol is bugging me about stuff I don’t remember, or might have changed).   But anyway, if I buy booze on the ship or bring on from port (1st segment) Will it get delivered our stateroom the last night of 1st segment? Or will they hold it until the end of our second cruise?

Also if we choose to get off in San Diego (which I remember that terminal being a nightmare ) on turnover day.  Will we get an “in transit pass”.  Meaning can I leave the passports in the cabin safe and when we return to ship (only talking about getting off for a few hours).  If the “cattle call” is still going on, do we just bypass all that (other then the security line)?

And last question for now.  1st segment embarkation day.  Taking a chance and flying in the day of cruise (I know, I never usually do this, but it’s a short non stop flight with many back ups to still make ship).  Land in San Diego at 8:45 am.  Got HAL transfers.  So we can take the transfer and won’t see the luggage again till it’s sent to cabin correct?

Then planning on taking the hop on hop off bus to kill some time, have lunch in old town and pick up a few bottles of wine.  Even being elite on Princess, I prefer to have lunch on land and like to get to ship around 2:00pm.  Hence the hop on hop off bus. Especially not being 4stars.  So question is, would 3:00 pm be the latest we could arrive back at ship for 5:00 pm sailing?  I think I just read in passenger contract (which I was reading for fun, after a small disagreement with a new cruiser two weeks ago). That we are required to be at the ship a minimum of 2 hours before sailing?  Does this pertain to the in-transit passengers as well?

ok hand getting tired, so will take all advice given ,

    Thanks, Happy Sailing Everybody

  13. Thank you miss G, I am.  This is just too much fun, getting off one cruise and saying heck let’s just wash the clothes and repack , lol.   Thanks for the Spa Info, might book one for the first week and see if it’s worth it, since we make the most out of our port days.  Thinking back, maybe Dad used to get my sister and I discounts on couples massages, or signature treatments, it’s been awhile.

    Thanks everybody.

okay so yes still on a roll (and ironing). I know food is subjective.  But thoughts on Tamarind?  I’m a big seafood lover, DH will do fish and shrimp (no lobster, crab).

Also does HAL still give away the tiles at the repeater lunch?  Seems like I sailed the Oosterdam so many times I quit going.  But new hubby and new ship lol.

It could be that the message about your cabin being changed was supposed to be sent before you saw your cabin assignment.

We most often sail with a guarantee and we receive the change of cabin assignment message, but often I've been on the HAL site and found the change before I received the email.

    HTH, and enjoy your cruise.

Yup Burian, you are 100% correct, the fill in PCC just called and told me that.  Ok calming down now,  I haven’t booked a guarantee in probably 15 years when HAL put under the showroom on the Oosterdam, lol.  Okay back to happily ironing and packing.

BUT since I’m being a pest.  I can,t remember does the spa sell one day passes or only the week long.  And can’t remember do I get a three star discount if I book on board.  Used to sail with parents who where four star and seems like Dad always bought it for us (this is my first time sailing 3 stars).

Also, I booked the PG for full price, PCC said they refund my discount on my shipboard statement, is this true.  And while on a roll, does obstructed view have a refrigerator?  Thanks all

  15. Thank you,

now another question.  I got my guarantee cabin assignment yesterday.  Back to back same cabin.  Fully obstructed 4076, but thrilled with location and bathtub.  Now at 10 am and 10:08 got emails from HAL telling me my cabin has changed and to re print docs for both cruises.  Logged on and no change.

First time using PCC, didn’t want to bother him.  Called HAL, was told they would transfer me to my PCC and was immediately transferred.  Put on hold over 10 minutes and promptly disconnected , lol (yes I’m laughing, Anticipation is killing me, personally an “upgrade” to under BBKing lounge doesn’t thrill me,

So I called my PCC and he is on vacation, called the person his message said to call.  She had a message saying swamped, only working till 2:30pm and might not be able to return calls today.

So, has anyone every felt with this.  If they made the changes shouldn’t,t the website show it?  Do I dare care HAL back and ask to speak to a supervisor?  Argghh I know I have a cabin “somewhere”. But I was happy, why give me a cabin yesterday then tell me it’s changed, but not tell me to where!

I was on HAL earlier this year, in the lowliest inside cabin money can buy.  We wrote in our breakfast order for room service every morning.  Best alarm clock EVER!!

Perfect, so I can still write in a egg and cheese omelette !  Yah.

ok another crumb question. I’ve never been on this class. But just to confirm, NO laundry rooms at all on the Eurodam?  I know the answer because I just poured over the deck plans, just can’t believe my eyes, lol.  Okay guess this will encourage me to make four stars.  Does HAL still have the stuff a bag thing?  I’ve also been noticing $49 package deal.  What does that include ?  Sorry, know I could search more, but booked this last minute thanks

  17. Yes, if it makes you feel any better, I personally have M.S. (I have had walkers on cruises before and always bring a cane) and DH is recovering from major back surgery (7months ago).  So I understand.  You could do the start of my suggestions up to walking out the main gate out of the “busy shopping area”.  Again, don’t talk to anyone inside the shopping area.

When you get out of the security gate, there are taxis there.  Ask them how much for “immediate /not waiting for other people”  to take you to the ferry “shack” cars drive on the dirt road, so there’s no reason they can’t take you right to the shack.  Let them know you know how short a walk it is (you can watch it yourself on the way and determine if you want to walk it back, I think someone said about 4 blocks on another thread, that sounds about right.  By the way, it is a fairly decent paved sidewalk, up to the dirt road part.

I wouldn’t pay more then $5 bucks including tip (even on my worst day).  Then when you get to the ferry shack, you can decide if you want to ask him a time to come back to get you.  Otherwise I’m fairly certain that the shack attendant would be willing to call you a cab.  Or better yet, whichever restaurant you choose to spend your time at, ask them, I have no doubt that they will arrange it for you.  Probably call someone when you get in the truck to go back to the ferry.

Also don,t forget getting into the water ferry itself. I chose to step on first, take our bag and put it on a seat, then help DH.  Of note it was easier for him then the water taxis in Cabo (for that we had him sit down on the bow (think front of ski boat kind of thing).  The truck on the other side had a step to get up into it.  If it’s not there when you get off ferry, wait for one (trust me I have walked this beach too many times in years gone by).  I’m leaving soon to go back and will try and inquire on a taxi price. Heck we might even take one for ourselves anyway, lol.  I’ll post on my return.

It,s doable and we’ll worth it!  Hope this helps.
