  1. Royal and Carnival market to the same crowds. It's time of year/length of cruise that will determine the crowd on that sailing. You sailed Oasis in November, of course it was an older/quieter crowd with less families.

So question for you, I'm planning on going on Vista to Southern Caribbean next year. Since that will be an 8 day cruise, will it be all old people as well?

  2. I agree with you. Went on the Oasis last year, and it was a very nice ship but I had nowhere near the amount of fun that I have Carnival. I like the young party crowd of the Carnival, and Royal seems to cater to older crowd and families. Definitely will be stick to Carnival from now on

  3. I always get the drink Package. For me it's worth it. I'll have a few fruity drinks during the day, a couple drinks at dinner, and then beer until the casino closes at 4am. Lol. But, it really just depends on you! If you drink more than 6 drinks a day, then get it forsure

  4. Went on that exact cruise on the Oasis back in Nov. I would not recommend it at all. Unless you enjoy no fun. Seriously though, it's a pretty ship and all, but the average age was about 70, and everything closed down at 1am. All the venues are extremely small, so it was hard to find a seat when there was actually something going on. I will say there was an awesome casino and the food was really good. But, the social activities were subpar. The nightclub was dead every night and the so were the deck parties. I would never recommend that cruise to anyone. Hope this helps

  5. We are leaving this Sunday with our 12 year old, I hope he has some kids to play with :/ Did y'all have a nice variety of drinks on the drink menu to order... were they all around the $12 range? We got the drink package so making sure we will get what we pay for ;)

The menus weren't very extensive, but yeah every drink and cocktail, frozen or whatever, was included in our drink Package. They can make anything, they just don't have a lot of recommendations on the menu. Only one I encountered that wasn't included was champagne and anything in s souvenir cup.

  6. I agree that RCCL caters to a much older crowd in the off season. Your other option is to go in high season but then again you deal with massive amount of kids. RCCL is pushing large family groups with heavy discounts that brings kids, parents, grandparents and those dreaded scooters. Been on Carnival and they do cater to a "party" crowd. Now out of Port Canaveral the retirement communities like Lake Aston is a short drive away. Try a cruise out of the NY area, I being one of them love to "party". Celebrity cruise line part of RCCL caters to more of an upscale group of cruisers; I am not sure what is the age group or the "party" status.

I heard the high season is around March and April, near spring break. Is this true? If so, that's busy season for me at work, I'm a tax accountant. I'm not able to schedule vacations during that time. How is during May?

Yeah I've been on a few carnival, and the atmosphere was way different. Although, I've been one the lower class boats, Sensation & Paradise which were 3/4 day cruises. I'm really looking into Vista or Magic next year on a Southern Caribbean itinerary. Do you think this would be a younger crowd or would the price of the cruise bring a more older crowd once again?

and btw, I live in Orlando, so Port Canaveral is only 45 minutes away from me. I'm even a little turned off considering driving three hours to Miami, so no on the NYC port haha.

  7. Hello all,

I just got back from my 7 day cruise aboard the Oasis today, and just wanted to say first, it was a great time. I just wanted to give y'all a short review with highlights on my experience.

    Embarkation:

The embarkation process was very smooth and easy. We live about 45 minutes Port Canaveral, we left the house about 11:30 and opted to park at Park Port Canaveral (at the Radisson). We got there and we're aboard a shuttle to the port by 12:45. They were great as always and I would highly recommend them. There was a huge line at the terminal, but it moved rather quickly and were on board within 45 minutes.

    The Ship:

Wow. What a beautiful ship. It was huge, but it wasn't hard to find your way around after a couple days. Central Park was Gorgeous, although I must admit I didn't spend much time there, only went there twice I think for Park Cafe and Rising Tide Bar. The Boardwalk was very cool, and enjoyed the atmosphere. Overall, I enjoyed the Promenade the most, and always found myself here for before dinner drinks with the family. The pool decks were great, and there were so many different pools and places to be, that it never felt packed.

    The Room:

Room was small, especially with the sofa bed out and four people in it. But we didn't mind. Beds were very comfortable, and slept amazing on them. Bathroom was a tad bigger than I've experienced in other ships which was nice. We loved our Ocean View balcony, but unfortunately had many issues with our neighbors two doors down from us and wasn't able to utilize it as much as we would have liked. But more on that later. Our stateroom attendant, Corrine, was fantastic and hilarious, we really enjoyed her.

    Service:

Service was great. Some of the best I've experienced on a cruise. Stateroom attendant was fantastic as stated before. Bartenders was quick and friendly. Majority of blackjack dealers were fun and personable, and remembered us and names from nights before. The only service that was slow and just okay was MDR, which was disappointing. We had to wait in long lines for Reservation Line, and then dinner always took forever.

    Food:

The food was pretty good. MDR was the same as always, fancy food that is just okay. Park Cafe had a good roast beef sandwich. Windjammer was good for breakfast. Johnny Rockets was awesome for dinner, but not good for breakfast. Sabor was very yummy, I'd recommend the Barbocoa tacos, Polito quesadilla, and guacamole. The hotdogs were okay. Cups and Scoops had a great Cupcake Sunday. Did not try Chops, Giovanni's, Or Izumi.

    Entertainment:

There were some really great shows on the Oasis. I enjoyed the Quest show, which my best friend participated in and he won 2nd place, it was hilarious. I also liked the Love and Marriage, Belly Flop Comp, Aqua Show and Comedy Show. I was disappointed with that there were many times throughout the day that it seemed nothing was going on, so I ended up at the casino, pool or back in the room. The casino was awesome, it was huge and had several $10 blackjack tables open, in case you got on a bad table. I also won 2nd place in the BJ tournament! My biggest complaint for the whole cruise was everything thing shut down and there was no one out on the ship but maybe 20 people after midnight. I for one am not used to this, and it was really disappointing going to the deck party or nightclub and it being almost empty.

    Fellow Passengers:

That brings me to my next point. The average age on this ship seemed to be 75, literally. There were so many old people. And royal Caribbean catered to them as well. Everything closed by 1am, even when we had full tables at Blackjack. This also brings me back to our balcony situation. On the second night since everything was closed by 12, we were outside enjoying the view on our balcony and having a quiet conversation. Five minutes later, security pounds on the door saying we are being too loud and they got a complaint. This happened two night in a row, and we were not in the slightest being loud. My friend went and apologized to both our neighbors, but they said they didn't call. We found out it was our neighbors 2 doors down, with the scooter outside their door, figures. So we just decided to not go out on the balcony any longer except morning.

    Ports of Call:

Did not get off the boat at Nassau, because I had been there multiple times and I honestly, I was a little hungover that day.

St. Thomas was beautiful. We decided to do a RC excursion, 2 Island Caribbean Fast Cat Snorkel and Beach Safari. It was one of the best excursions I've ever done, and I would highly recommend it. We boarded a catamaran with a fun lively crew and it was only half full. So we ended up having the entire back of the boat to ourselves, which was great. We snorkeled at Buck Island, and saw a couple sea turtles an colorful fish, but it wasn't very impressive. When we boarded back on the ship, we started drinking rum punch and they never let Or cups get empty. When we arrived at Honeymoon Beach at Water Island we swam ashore and ate a fantastic lunch. The burgers were sooo good! Then after an hour boarded the ship, drank more and partied back to the port.

St Maarten was also an island I had never been to before, so we booked an excursion through JunieJo tours to go to Orient Beach and Maho Beach. Besides our tour guide, who never stopped talking and relating everything fact about the island to money, it was a blast. Orient beach was very pretty and relaxing. And the planes were very cool at Maho, as well as Sunset Bar and Grill was a lot of fun.

    Overall:

Me and my friends and family had a fantastic time, and will never forget it. The boat was nice and the ports were fun. But, it seemed that this was not my crowd. The amount of older folks was too much, and the fact that RC caters to them was irritating. I don't recall RC always being this way, but my next cruise will be through Carnival for this reason alone. I need party and casino til 4am and 24 hr pizza! [emoji12]

  8. Hello,

Looking for advice and opinions on ship and itineraries for a Southern Caribbean cruise. Here are the choices:

Carnival Sunshine - Port Canaveral (8 Day)

    Aruba

    Bonaire

    Grand Turk

Carnival Vista - Port Miami (8 Day)

    Grand Turk

    La Romana, Dominican Republic

    Curaçao

    Aruba

Carnival Magic - Port Canaveral (8 Day)

    Aruba

    Curaçao

    Grand Turk

I've never been to any of these ports or on any of these ships. Ship is very important to me, I love nightlife and lots of things to do, including parties, shows and casino. I also live in Orlando, and usually go to Port Canaveral, because it is only 45 minutes away. I have never been to Miami, but I know Vista is the newest best ship, so that is intriguing and it has an extra port, just not so excited about a 3-4 hour drive. Lol.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  9. Hello everyone,

I'm aboard Oasis of the Seas right now and I bought the wifi plan, but my cell phone says it's also connected to cellular at sea. I turn cellular data and roaming off. But I wanted to verify that I won't be charged anything by cellist of the sea if someone tried to call or text me

Does anyone have any information regarding this? Thanks

  10. Thinking about doing the Popular Beach Tour by Junie Jo that goes to Orient for 2 hours and the Maho Beach for 2 hours for $37 with free beer and run punch included,". Sounds like a great deal and is exactly what I wanted, but does anyone have any experience this Tour company?

I read that sometimes it's a big van with minimal people and sometimes it's a big tour bus. I would obviously prefer van, but wondering how likely this is.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

  11. You will likely get a different answer on board the ship from a land based CSR - people have upgraded for the price difference instead of full price. The other option (which could be even cheaper) is to buy the drinks individually on the Select package and be charged above the $8 limit.

Is this correct? My father bought the select cause he mostly a beer drinker, but he occasionally likes a margarita. So he would just have to pay the difference between $8 and the price of the margarita?

  12. Maybe that's that persons type of fun. I know my favorite part of the cruise is drinking, gambling, smoking and eating! Just because that's not your cup of tea doesn't give you the right to down it.

On one hand, I try to be considerate when I'm at the table smoking by blowing it up or away from other players. I understand some people are more sensitive to the smoke. But do you not remember a time no long ago where it was completely normal to light up practically anywhere on a cruise ship, airplane, restaurant, doctors office? I bet you didn't complain back then because it was the norm.

The fact is let people have fun and you have your own fun as well. Don't worry yourself about other people for differences in the way they are enjoying themselves on vacation.

  13. I am trying to decide between two RC excursions.

    1) Caribbean FastCat 2 island beach safari and snorkel. This goes to buck island to anchor off for snorkeling and then off to honeymoon beach at water island.

    2) Half Day Champagne Sail to St. John. This goes to Honeymoon Beach on St. John for snorkeling and beach.

Which is a prettier beach and has better snorkeling?

    Thanks
