Right, so I should assume they will be giving her the Classic alcohol package?  I read elsewhere that Celebrity doesn't give alcohol packages to those under 21 but it's possible the writer was not thinking of cruises outside of North America.

We have a responsible 19 year old.  We just want to know what to expect.

Did you read this on the Celebrity website? Their FAQ's say clearly that the drinking age is 18 outside of North America.  I don't see anything saying they don't sell them alcohol packages

  2. You will be able to see which nights are scheduled as formal nights in the Journey View Activities Timeline in the app. Every evening will show either “Casual fun portraits” or “Formal portraits”. I have seen it populate up to 6 weeks before departure

Would I like being quarantined in a OV rather than my balcony?  Nope.  But if you want to cruise, that's the risk you take.  But some here are saying they're afraid of being asymptomatic and testing positive.  If you're asymptomatic why would you test at all on board?

If you’ve been in close contact with someone who tests positive you may be tested. There have also been tests required for all passengers on some longer cruises or cruises to ports of call requiring testing

    Hi,

We are on Emerald princess in March 2023 in the caribbean and am wondering what the evening dress code will be for 14 nights.

    Thanks

On a 14 night cruise you can expect 3 formal nights

Has anyone ever been directed to go through the yellow lane at the cruise port for check in?  We tested positive for Covid 2 days prior to departure. When filling out the health assessment, I put down symptoms and that we tested positive, the website said “ you are not well go through yellow lane at check in”.  I thought for sure they would cancel me, I had to call my TA for that and they didn’t even want verification of my positive test.  I’m wondering if we would have still got on the ship with a positive test.

We got the yellow lane after answering that we had been out of the country in the last two weeks. We were quickly moved to the green lane after seeing staff in the yellow lane.

I imagine that you would have been denied boarding I. The yellow lane unless you had a “letter of recovery” indicating that your positive test was the result of having already had Covid-19

I'm starting to wonder... that tour may still be a go.  It takes a bus up into the Yukon, does the stuff up there and then takes the train back down.  If you've already taken the bus into Canada and just catch the train to go back maybe that is okay??? It seems that the issue is getting off of the train in Canada, not on.  Or am I off base?

My understanding is that the trains aren’t going to Canada. There won’t be any train to board there

  7. Great advice @Ken the cruiser! We also try to minimize our risk even if some risk is unavoidable. We’ve taken 6 cruises since the restart and have chosen to limit them to round trips starting and ending in our own country and are putting off any “bucket list” destinations so that we don’t feel badly about our choice to avoid any tours in busses or vans or trips to crowded museums.

We wear masks most of the time and haven’t used the theater or gone to events like trivia or Bingo. Breakfast and lunch are either picked up in the buffet and taken to an outdoor table or ordered from the pool grill  or pizza place. We do go to the Casino and fitness center though because we really enjoy it. Spending more time on our balcony these days for sure!

We are doing this same trip, and it's already proving to be a nightmare.  Our airline has changed our flight times to head back home from Vancouver to be an hour and a half earlier, so we're now going to be scrambling to get to the airport, get through customs/immigration, AND get covid tests for everyone.  Because of the tight timing, we are utilizing airport VIP service to manage everything.  When I asked them about setting up covid test appointments they advised me to wait until May, as they have been hearing that the testing requirement will be lifted then.  Obviously this is just hearsay and rumor, BUT I'm hopeful it's accurate, and that there will be one less hoop to jump through.

You could consider doing a proctored home antigen test while still aboard if your home country accepts them (USA does)

Really quiet last evening.    The staff said it was busy at 5:30 and then calmed down .

    Mini Caprese

For Starters I had the Pear and Anjou Pear (MDR) and Iain had the Smoked Potato Soup

For our Main Course Iain had Iain had the Chicken Roulade (MDR) and I had the Scallops.   I was in the mood for a light meal and only ate the Scallops (not a fan of Pork Belly).   Our waiter was concerned and brought another plate of 10 scallops -  we both ate a couple more.

For desert we both had the Banana Foster  (MDR)

One thing that bothers me is that waiters love to bring extra food and/or dishes I didn’t order. It may seem silly to some but seeing a double order on my plate makes me lose my appetite. I also hate the unnecessary waste. We’ve been on 6 cruises since the restart and it’s a constant problem even when I ask them not to bring extra food.

Day 2 update, seems my symptoms have gotten a bit worse. 102 degree fever this morning. Doctor dropped off some ibuprofen to help with that and explained it will get worse before it gets better. Breakfast from luminae included a yogurt parfait and a blueberry smoothie, trying to load up on antioxidants. Also, received a little cake to remind me I turn year older today.

So sorry this is happening to you. Certainly not a memorable birthday in the way one would hope for. Sending good wishes and positive thoughts!

It's not just the testing, it's the quarantine requirement. When I'm on dry land and am deemed a close contact, I don't need to quarantine and should wait until at least 5 days have passed to take a test. When I'm on a cruise ship, I need to quarantine for at least 24 hours and take 2 tests immediately.

I don't know why the guidance from the same agency is so wildly inconsistent, but it sure makes it hard to trust the science. Ultimately, I just adjust my behavior (no ship sponsored tours) to minimize the odds of being deemed a close contact by the cruise ship.

My concern if I have been a close contact is that I might develop COVID and unwittingly give it to others.

  12. 12 hours ago, RichYak said:

On the flip side, I am far LESS likely to book ship's excursions now than in the past due to contact tracing.

That is a concern for sure, but I suppose that it’s for the best to be tested if I’ve been exposed to someone who has COVID.

I haven’t yet taken a cruise leaving from a foreign port or that had any bucket list destinations because of the risk of being quarantined.  Hoping that things will feel a little more certain by next year

Well that's disappointing news. We had this booked on our upcoming April 30th cruise. I wonder when Princess plans on letting us know so we have an opportunity to book something else. They also still have the White Pass excursions  available to book on their website.

Some tour operators are running the tours using busses in both directions There is a lot of info in the Alaska port page

Although our particular Alaska cruise is not until August, I'm certainly following all of this closely. (Port call in Victoria, PLUS possible entry into Canada via White Pass Railroad.)

FYI There will be no trips into Canada on the White Pass Railroad this year. https://wpyr.com/updates/

Cross Border Tours – Service Suspended for 2022 Operating Season

After months of working towards restoring the Carcross and Fraser Train Service Combination, we unfortunately must announce that we are unable to provide these offerings for the 2022 Season.  We have delayed this difficult decision for several months in the hopes that we could find a workable solution for all involved and provide passenger service on these international routes.  The challenges of logistics, restrictions, and uncertainty around wait times would have made it impossible for us to provide a consistent high quality service without delays and would create significant disruption to the passenger experience.

We've always tried to arrange private tours for ports as we much prefer them to ships' excursions. I'd say I've successfully organized over 20 at this point. On our upcoming fall New England/ Canada cruise (which is showing as sold out), I've posted 2 private tours on our Roll Call. Not a single bite.

I am much more likely to book ship’s excursions now than in the past. Knowing that I won’t be the one who has to deal with changes, cancellations, updated protocols, etc. is appealing. We had three ports cancelled on a recent cruise. That was disappointing enough. I was glad to only have one private excursion to deal with.

We’ve sailed Edge several times in Select Dining.  Every time we’ve requested an item from another of the MDRs.  Say the Cyprus entree while dining in Tuscan.  We’ve even had a waiter in Tuscan tell us he wanted us to eat there every night… that he could get us any dish from any of the other MDRs’ menus.

Now I’m hearing that this is discouraged.  I’m not interested in breaking or bending rules.  Can anyone who has dined recently on Edge or Apex chime in if this is no longer allowed?  And I’m just curious why it would be a problem.  I thought the four restaurants shared a kitchen and therefore it would be easy to share menus.

We were on the Apex last month and were told exactly what you were. All four restaurants share the same kitchen and to feel free to order from any of the menus

I will say, I am still learning from this thread despite the difference of opinions. From what I've gathered, what I usually wear is fine, but it wouldn't hurt to bring some collars. And, on my next cruise (or special dining occasion), start paying attention to people around me and see what they're wearing to see how it personally changes how I view my dining experience so I can better understand where everyone is coming from.

It is a good idea to be prepared to comply with the dress code if eating in the MDR is important to you. No one can predict whether the dress code will or will not be enforced on any given evening on a particular ship.

Smart casual code doesn't mention collars: "Pants or jeans with a short sleeve sport shirt."

By definition, a sports shirt has a collar. They include polo shirts and other casual shirts https://effortlessgent.com/dress-shirt-vs-sport-shirt/

The dress code does say no t-shirts as well

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours.

    Gotcha.

So here's a photo of a a nice long sleeve striped T-Shirt and pants. I wouldn't see a problem with this guy getting into any Celebrity MDR or specialty restaurant.

I think that he looks much better than he would wearing a golf shirt. However, since shirts with collars are the requested dress code, I would still not wear that shirt.
