Believe the ship is going into dry dock to repair the propulsion issue April 14 to May 18. From what I read they have to cut a hole in the hull to make the repair. Big repair job.

You will not feel any issue while on the ship. It's maximum speed is 18 knots so it takes just a little longer to reach the next port.

We were on her in January 2018 and felt the ship was well run and had a really nice cruise. Only issue is the theater where you have to arrive 45 minutes for shows, especially Bravo.

    Just an idea:

Grand Turk is basically a beach. There is a Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville there which gets busy. There are also some stores. On March 28th the Carnival Breeze will also be there. Prepare for Margaritaville to be a noisy and crowded. Suggest you turn left off the pier, walk about 1/2 mile up the beach to Jack's Shack for some nice drinks and beach time. You can also arrange for private or Princess tours.

Oh my! Now I am a bit concerned.  We are set to do the May 18th cruise. What if it’s not finished?   Where did you find the information on this repair?

  2. We have just returned from a cruise that included three trips with Romeinlimo and I must say our time with them was the highlight of our 9 day cruise. Last year we experienced the quality of their private tours in Florence and Rome so we were excited to use them again this year when our ship docked in Sicily, Naples, and Rome. As others have said, a private tour with Romeinlimo is a little more costly, however, it it well worth it. Listening to great commentary as you drive easily through the Italian countryside cannot be compared to huge groups on a bus using audio headsets. In Sicily, we were able to makes stops between our visits to Mt Etna and Taormina , stopping to see vineyards and taste wine from the barrel. We also stopped to taste local honey and olive oil, and saw the sight of the miracle of the lava. Our driver also stopped so we could take pictures of the Mediterranean from up high.

In Naples our driver was able to organize our day so we weren’t dealing with all the buses and traffic on the drive to the Amalfi coast. Romeinlimo also arranged a private guide (100€) for our tour of Pompeii. She was amazing and you shouldn’t visit this historical site without a guide.

And finally, we used a Romeinlimo driver to pick us up at the port and drive us to our hotel and then he returned the next day to take us to the airport. The price was almost the same as a taxi and so much better. He arrived at our hotel early and was already putting our luggage in the car when we got to the door. Our driver was a wealth of information and helped us navigate the VAT process at the Rome airport!

I would highly recommend RIL. Our experiences with them have been five star!

  3. Today I received an email from Celebrity listing embarkation times for our Aug 30 cruise out of Venice. They are assigned by your deck. It has been a while since we sailed on Celebrity- is this usual?

We arranged our personal water taxi transportation months ago, and can’t change it now. Do they adhere to these times exactly?

  4. The walls close down at 1830 on 01 September. If you can get up there before they begin to walk the wall and lock all the gates, go for it. Plan on only walking the sea side, best views are on that side. After you pass the old pier, which we call Porporela, and finish at the Ploce exit. The land side is the beginning of the upward climb to reach the high point at Minceta Tower. Enjoy the walk, total steps is 1,080!

Thank you so much. You always give the best information. Can you tell me how long a taxi drive it is from the dock to the entrance that will take us to the sea side?

  5. First visit to Rome we used RomeInLimo (amazing tour...saw and did so much including a private tour of the Vatican).

This next trip in May 2019 we're just going to use the ship offered DIY for the transportation to make it easy and assure getting back to the ship on time without having to rely on public transportation and the possibilities of something going wrong.

You're dropped off at St Peter's Square and picked back up there ..... couldn't be an easier choice this visit for us.

I totally agree. Last year we had one day to see as much of Rome as possible. My sister had warned me against the ship’s bus excursion. (I’m not sure which cruise line.). She described it as a bus ride with the guide talking and pointing out points of interest. We booked a Romeinlimo tour (I think 6 hours). We had a fabulous driver! He shared so much about his city as we drove from site to site. He would ask how long we wanted to walk thru the site then he told us where he’d meet us. We booked a private guide for the Vatican through Romeinlimo, too. It takes 3 to 4 hours to do a tour of the Vatican so if you choose to do that you be limited seeing other sites in Rome. We had a wonderful first trip to Rome and will do it on our own in three weeks. Of course a Romeinlimo driver will pick us up at the ship and take us to our hotel. Yes, maybe a little pricey, but worth every penny. You can email them any question and get a very quick response! Enjoy your cruise and Rome.

  6. Let's get a bit more information:

hope someone can help with this unusual question. First, let me say I have read the TSA website and it doesn’t address this. Due to a flight cancelation, and then going round and round with the TA and Choice Air, the flight was finally changed to an early morning flight.

From where? What airline? Let's start with that.

This resulted in my DS and DBIL arriving in PHL 6 hours before their connecting flight to Venice.

Again, what airline? Do they have one booking number for both flights, or two different booking numbers?

(We are catching up with them in Philly and flying together to the ship in Venice. )

Their TA has told them that the airline will not accept their luggage until 4 hours before the Venice flight.

This might be true if they were originating in Philadelphia. But if they are originating elsewhere, then all that is happening is a long layover. Ideally, their luggage should be checked through from their originating airport through to Venice. Without more details, we can't say why that might not be happening in their case.

She told them they must collect their luggage at PHL and hold it until 4 hours before their connecting flight and check it in again. Then go throughTSA again.

Is this possible? Can they go thru TSA twice?

yes, they can go through TSA twice, but if it is a single ticket with just a long layover, they shouldn't have to.

Do they really have to claim their luggage and hold it for two hours?

    Can anyone help?

I’m sorry. I shortened a much longer post. Guess that was a mistake

Choice Air booked them from Knoxville to Venice thru Philadelphia. That was so we could all take the same flight into Venice. All flights are with American Airlines. So they have a flight originating in Knoxville, connecting in PHL and arriving in Venice. They have one booking number.

Their TA told them about the luggage problem. I am thinking my best bet is to drive into Philadelphia and speak to someone in person about the luggage issue.

  8. I have downloaded this app on my iPhone for our August 30 cruise on the Connie. It has great information. However, I cannot find this app in my iPad App Store.

I have tried several different searches. Can anyone help? The App looks great, I just would see it better on the bigger iPad.

Ok. I figured it out. If you go to google and put in Celebrity Cruises App it will come right up. (Big blue square with X)

But! I have the new iPad and it downloaded but doesn’t work!

  10. In January we used some Amex reward points to “buy” a Carnival Cruise gift card. We used it when making our final payment. The picture of this Gift Card on the Amex website showed a card with pictures of all the Carnival logos, including Princess. Here’s my question... This year I have lots of reward points on a Chase credit card. On their website they have a card that is just titled “Carnival.” No, the reps at Chase and Princess had no idea if it could be used on our upcoming Princess cruise.

    Any thoughts??

  11. It is interesting to see that I am not the only one not getting the Celebrity promotional emails! I called the Captains Club and they said they fixed it. That was back in February. I still have not received any emails from Celebrity except the ones I got this week that said my final payment is due.

  12. I didn’t even know there was a “sale” on our August cruise until I read it here yesterday! I guess Celebrity doesn’t email their passengers- we just have to guess there is a sale? Thanks to RIC I saw it in time and was able to get a discount on the internet package. (I think).

  13. I had a side seats on both times of my Tattoo visits and had good views. The Castle is at one end and the only entrance the other. The performers would come out from either end or sometimes the middle.

Be prepared for any weather, rain or shine the show goes on for 90 minutes with no interruptions. No umbrellas. Bring a small plastic bag to sit on encase the seats are wet.

    Great info. Thank you!

  14. Avoid the front of the ship. If you can live with an OV cabin, choose one just forward of the atrium on Deck 4. If you’re looking for an inside Cain, consider a partial OV on Deck 3 (portholes instead of windows). There is definitely more movement on the Pacific Princess but it’s so worth it.

Great news. We’re choosing a midship minisuite. I guess we’ll look for a lower deck?

Does the PP have laundromats like the bigger ships? It is a big help when your are touring on land before sailing.
