  1. Definitely no computer. Had a flip phone. She didn't trust anyone. We tried to give her estate planning info or schedule for her to meet with a professional but always refused. We tried to tell her how to set up accounts to avoid having Estate pay inheritance tax, but nope wouldn't listen to anyone. I'm was thankful how well prepared my parents were with everything.
  2. Sorry for her loss. May she Rest in Peace🙏 Pretty sure no cash hiding in fridge in MIL hope not since we just threw out everything in it, but I'm sure we will find some as she always had bank envelopes with cash.
  3. She truly is a perfect Daughter in Law. We were actually having fun cleaning out a fridge and cleaning up some other areas. We are back home now. Eric found a lot of her banking info. Except for her checkbook. So odd, we looked all over for it. Worst case we just wait to see what statements come in the mail. I was glad to see Eric burst into tears when Chris walked in the front door and gave his Dad a hug. He was due for a good cry.
  4. Thank you Maryanne🥰 Chris and Donna should be here any minute. Eric just ran out to pick up pizza. Tonight is seek n find and clean out fridge. I haven't asked Eric his thoughts on the cruise yet. I've learned over the years to give him a day or two to think things over when he is unsure. I think yesterday he was feeling like there is so much that has to be done and I gently said not everything has to be done right away.
  5. Wow, I had no idea. We have a toilet seat in our master bath with blue nightlight but didn't know warmers existed. Next thing you know, we will have smart toilet seats. Lol.
  6. We are all going to meet at her house after work. I plan on picking up some pizza. Donna is going to help me clean out fridge and any loose food items so we don't end up with rotting smelly food if we do go on cruise next week. Eric has been up and down all night. I see he started a list of things to do and people to call. I told him no rush with any of it but he wants to make sure she had utilities pd current since she was showing signs of forgetfulness. We are all thankful that she passed quickly and peaceful.
  7. Thank you very much for your kindness ❤ I know your life has been turned upside in the past 2 years. You have doing a great job in caring for your Mother. I hope that we all find peace and happiness in our futures. A couple days at sea should help heal our souls. How are you and Oliver? I would love to see some Oliver photos!
  8. Thank you. A couple years ago we spread his Father's ashes at a fishing village called Viking Village at LBI. https://www.vikingvillage.net/ which is located near Barnegat Lighthouse where the bay meets the Atlantic oceans. As his Father's roots are from Norway this was his request. He used to take Eric and his Brother fishing on a regular basis so this was a perfect area to spread his ashes. I suggested we take her ashes to same location. I'm hoping there will be something in her home that will give us some insight.
  9. We would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for our family. Eric's Mother passed away around 10 am. Eric and his Brother spent the morning trying to find her Will and other legal documents, banking info, etc. He phoned at work and I suggested they look under her mattress...tada they found alot of it under her mattress. I think that scared him that I knew how a crazy old lady that was paranoid of everyone trying to steal from her would think.😇 They have begun the arrangements to have her cremated. Just not sure what to do with her ashes yet. She never told anyone and is not written down. Eric and I booked to sail on Anthem this coming Sunday. He's not sure he will make it but is insisting that I go and enjoy a solo cruise. I'm not sure how I feel about yet.
  10. Yes, she was in the hospital for 4 or 5 days in October with edema. Last spring they said she had Afib brought on by leaky valve. Early this summer her cardiologist added microzide to her daily meds of metropol, eliquis and amlodopine. The ICU doc told me her heart valve is severely damaged. I just spoke with ICU Nurse and they said she is stable now and they will decrease ventilator to 80% this afternoon and keep us posted.
  11. Eric's Mother was admitted to the hospital due to problems breathing. Eric received a call from ICU Dr. Saying she came in with oxygen levels around 60. Hypoxema due to a leaky heart valve she has known about for several years. For now they put her into an induced coma and have her on a ventilator and some sort of compression blanket on her chest. Dr asked if she would be okay with this or does she a living will or DNR. Dr said she really needed the valve replacement and is now far too unstable and weak to endure the procedure. Time will tell.
  12. @Luckynanasorry to hear about the chimney. did you ask contractor to keep costs to a minimum since you need to cruise?
  13. We have been renting the shore house out for about 20 yrs. We bought it with the plan of renting it every summer and we would use in the spring and fall. I handle all the lease agreements myself as I like to personally speak with prospective tenants instead of using a management company. For several years now, we are at the point that we have the same renters every year so we no longer have to advertise the rental. We have been very fortunate that all our current renters are respectful and take care of the home and leave it clean when they leave. We have a good friend that cleans between renters and if she is not available our good friend/neighbor will go in and clean. They both tell us they hardly have to do anything, maybe 1 or 2 hours to clean bathrooms, kitchen and mop or vacuum. I pay them $100 per cleaning. So we really don't notice notice wear and tear anymore than our main home. We have the house fully stocked with cleaning products, laundry products, dishwasher soap, hand soaps, toilet paper, paper towels, bedspreads, blankets, pillows, throw blankets, etc for each and every renter. The only thing we don't keep there is our clothes and my favorite pillow😀 Neither of us have had jobs with pensions so we look at it as our retirement plan.
  14. Busy weekend. We are back home and I just threw in some laundry. Chris and Donna, the Newlyweds, arrived Saturday morning and both helped out with cleaning and putting stuff away in the shed. Already for winter rentals. I put up a holiday wreath and Chris put some garland and lights on balcony railings as a surprise for them. We had a wonderful celebratory dinner at the Engleside Inn last night. Then watched some holiday movies. One I haven't seen in a while. Santa Claus with Tim Allen from 1994. We all enjoyed.
  15. I ordered a cake with our Head waiter in MDR the day before his birthday. I asked for cake to be served in MDR then wait staff could sing. I ordered a cake big enough for 4 adults. They made a gorgeous cake with all kinds of special decorations. We had leftover cake for the next 2 days. If you are diamond members you can get free chocolate covered strawberries from the diamond lounge. If not, you can call room service or ask guest services and order for them to be delivered to your cabin. Sounds like she will have quite a special birthday week😃
  16. If you cabin decorated, have it done for the whole week. I ordered a cake for our adult sons birthday once onboard. I arranged thru the head waiter. They made him an amazing cake and didn't even charge us.
  17. Tonight we went to Black Whale and I had a dozen buck a shuck oysters for happy hour....Eric snuck one even though he is not suppose to eat anything raw. We made our dinner out a bunch of half prize appetizers. Perfect meal. The fall renters left the home spotless. Tomorrow I will steam mop living spaces and Eric will shampoo carpet in the bedrooms. Might be too chilly/windy to pressure wash decks.
  18. This is a nice itinerary! We love this class ship. We have sailed Serenade, her Sister, several times and Jewel once. I love the wonderful views from many locations. I find the service to be more personal. I like schooner bar and views better than most other class ships. Same goes for Chops and Giovannis. Also, love WJ and the outdoor dining area. You will love Jewel.
  19. We got a later start then we had hoped but we both in slow motion this morning. We just stopped at Vincetown diner for lunch then about another hour to get to our LBI house. Lots of traffic yesterday and today. Safe travels to anyone venturing out. We had a wonderful day at my Brothers.
