Thank you so much for those photos. I have spent alot of time on this ship and seeing those photos of the Nordic Prince yesteryear and today. What a history. Thank You.

My family of 5 will be arriving two days before our cruise on the amtrak from Seattle. I was thinking of renting a vehicle over at the amtrak station, they have some great rates, Avis I think but I would rather use the skytrain if all things were equal. I notice the one day pass is $9.00, kids I think was $7.00, I started bidding on some 4 star locations in downtown. First, do you think I will get a hard time from the hotel for trying to put my family of 5 in one room and second, do you think it's more cost effective to rent a car, about $30.00 day plus whatever they charge to park and so forth. Thanks for any input, I have been looking at hotwire and priceline, some nice deals on hotels but have heard I can pay $20 to $25 a night for parking.

I picked up the red lion at the airport for $50 on August 5, 2009 for one night. I am more than happy with that.

I remember the first time I saw the Nordic Prince and I thought she was such a big ship. She is so small compared to today's ships you would hardly notice her today. My Norwegian parents worked closely with all the cruise ships going out of Dodge Island in the 1970's. My dad was a salesman for Bailey Refrigeration and would constintly bring the officers before they went out to sea and when they returned to come to our house for some home cooking. I will never forget getting to Dodge Island early in the morning and waiting for the ship to come in and we were always able to board with the customs agent. Times have sure changed now. My father first got me a job as a deck hand in the late 1970's on the Nordic Prince. What an experience living on the ship as a youngster, I only spoke a little english but the guys on deck really made me enjoy my stay and I will never forget them. I again sailed on her in 1981 as we did two week cruises and she was much bigger this time as they extended her length. When I first worked on the ship we actually transported some cargo to the islands. My dad passed away in 1985 and he had his last wish's to have his ash's spread out to sea, of course his ship of choice was the Nordic Prince. It is logged into the captains book as they stopped the ship and honored my dad. After a few minutes the ship continued, the passengers never knew, only those of us who were involved. Needless to say this ship will always be in my heart.

This ship was a classy ship with Royal Carribean Lines. I work as a deck hand on her in 1981. At that time she was doing two week cruise out of miami and we would go down to south america. Anybody have any info on her, I guess she might be some gambling boat tied up someplace. Any info appreciated.

Wow, I love hearing about the Starward. When I was 16 in 1976, I went to work on the Starward for the summer as a deckhand. I do remember driving cars off in Haiti. We unloaded other cargo as well in this port. She was a great ship. I use to think it was such a huge ship but compared to the ships of today, its doesn't have enough space to hold the crew of today's ships. Thanks for all the posts on her, I am not sure I would like to see today pictures of her today as alot of these older ships don't get the money they need to keep them looking good. Hope the old great Starward is doing well.
