We turned on WiFi Calling on both our phones (Android and iPhone) and was able to make phone calls as well as text.  Fairly significant lag time on phone calls...it took a couple of minutes getting used to having to wait after you've stopped talking before you start hearing the other persons' response.  You're tempted to add more voice after you've stopped talking, but inevitably as soon as you start talking again is when the persons' response starts coming into your end!  The other person stops talking mid-stream as your voice starts coming through on their end and then both sides have to stop and get a pattern going again.  But...it's doable!  Text of course is no issue at all.

I read somewhere that turning off HD calling helps in this situation.

The mini suites aft on Emerald deck have great size balconies that are fully covered.

There are only like 12 of them and they go fast.

You could get an inside or 2 across the hall for the teenagers?

All the balconies on Caribe deck have huge balconies that are half covered.

They are excellent too bu the cabin itself is a normal size nothing fancy.

Agree there are 12 mini's on emerald, but no insides directly across.  As a mater of fact there are only 2 insides in that area.

My husband has it done this way ALWAYS for the filet...it is excellent.  The head waiter called it Pittsburgh style.  Tender and juicy on the inside but grilled nicely on the outside.  It continues to cook at it sits on the plate too.  He does his medium rare and it is just right for him.  I like mine rare so I don't need to butterfly.

Sometimes referred to as "black and blue"

I asked if it was Choice and they said "no" and they were sort of embarrassed to answer. Again, I live in beef country and I knew it wasn't Choice. And we all know it is not Prime.

The menu says "Featuring the Finest Center Cuts from Sterling Silver Corn Fed Beef".  This from Sterling Silver " Sterling Silver only uses the top ⅔ of all meat graded Choice using these parameters. Choice beef is high quality, tender, juicy and flavorful so you know you’ll get premium quality in every bite.

    So is Princess lying??

My TA forwarded a copy of an email that was sent to them from Princess.  It gives a boarding schedule (order) for our cruise beginning February 5 on the Crown Princess.

In the past, my DW and I have been able to arrive at about 10:30AM and take advantage of the Priority Boarding Pass that our TA provided us.  This gave us on opportunity to get on board and have a leisurely lunch in the Horizon Buffet before going to our cabin.

Now we are told they will be boarding much like the airlines do, and that those with Priority Boarding can only board at the assigned boarding time, albeit at the head of the line for that boarding time.  That means, in our case that we will not be checked in until 1PM at the earliest, making lunch in the Horizon a bit on the late side.

By the way, I can see pluses and minuses to this boarding process.

Is this new?  Is it being done on other ships now?

Here's the order we were given...

To help facilitate a smooth start to your voyage we have implemented a progressive cruise check-in schedule. Please arrive at the check-in time listed below. If you have purchased a Princess Cruise Plus Package/Transfer, your check-in time will be provided at your hotel or the airport. Guests travelling on shared transport or arriving as a group will be checked in together. Priority check-in will be available to guests with Priority Boarding within the allocated check-in times. Boarding will commence shortly after check-in. Please do not arrive prior to the start of cruise check-in as your cabin will not be ready.

12:30 PM - Aloha and Lido Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with A & L

1:00 PM - Dolphin and Emerald Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with D & E

1:30 PM - Caribe Deck - Cabins on this deck begin with C

2:00 PM - Plaza and Riviera Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with P & R

2:30 PM - Baja Deck - Cabins on this decks begin with B

Actually, you can avoid the Horizon Court - just ask which dining room is open.. The may first tell you Horizon, but ask again and they will tell you.  You can leave your carry on at the entrance and enjoy a leisurely lunch without the crowds.

I remember when my local pub was afraid to go to non-smoking because of losing business.  Well guess what -- they gained business, and the smokers stayed but just went outside  to get their fix.  The bartender, who has been there for years, said he knows of only one patron who hasn't come back.

I'm sure a lot of people won't go into the casino because of smoking.  I won't, unless I'm running a slot pull, and then choose a non-smoking side of the casino.  It's too bad the smoke won't stay on its side of the casino.   I would think the true gamblers would still go, even if they had to take a break and go outside to get their fix.

I complain every time I board a ship to the casino manager (who doesn't really care), and to guest relations.  Maybe they'll get the word.  🍷

Just curious - what pub in Myrtle Beach?  I used to live there and tended bar.

MixerDave I feel like people probably avoid you for other reasons besides your leather items.

Quite the contrary - and you don't see the sarcasm in what I said - after the poster said this "as nothing is worse than eating with a table full of meat eaters" he is the one to avoid!!!

I’ve been a Vegan for 45 years. Many foods at the buffet are suspect from a vegan point of view. Vegetable soup with chicken stock as an example. Of course, we don’t just eat salad !! Best bet is eating in the dining room. When I first board I contact the Maitre’d as soon as possible. Find out who my head Waiter will be and give him a list of foods I will eat and foods I don’t want to eat. I also like to have a table for two (or as small as possible) as nothing is worse than eating with a table full of meat eaters.

Oh the horror - I guess you avoid the nightclubs because of leather shoes.  Also, my belt is leather, and my wife's purse is leather.

Bourbon is whiskey. Rye is whiskey. Irish is whiskey. Scotch is whisky (no "e"). They are all different types of whiskey. The song American Pie always bugged me with the line about "drinking whiskey and rye" since rye is whiskey.  Canada makes whiskey. Japan makes whiskey. Jack Daniels is Tennessee Whiskey - which is pretty much just bourbon that is filtered differently at the end. There are blends and single malts. Whiskey is a very broad-reaching term. 😁

Actually , the lyrics  for "American Pie" are: I drove my Chevy to the Levee (which was a bar in New Rochelle, NY - ) which was closed, (dry)  so they drove to Rye, NY - hence the words are actually drinking whiskey IN Rye.

Thanks that would be great. Whenever I have arranged with other cruise lines it was always a cruise critic meet and greet (mingle). I didn't realize it was not that with Princess.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sailing on the Majestic Princess.

    Again, thanks, Evelyn

I have been compiling a list of people on my roll call that want to be included in a meet and mingle. I found the contact info on cruise critic. I called the customer service number and was told that Princess does not plan Cruise Critic meet and mingles. I sent an email to the executive office to confirm. I got a call this morning from them and was told that they do not do this. The only way to have a meet and mingle is to get on the ship and plan it then. For me that doesn't work. I need to arrange ahead of time so i can inform my fellow cruisers of the time and place. I have arranged numerous meet and greets in the past with other cruise lines and they have been very accommodating. (NCL does it the best).

Just wanted to let everyone know so you don't waste time planning a meet and mingle.

I ran a Meet & Greet on a recent cruise.  My contact at princess arranged the venue.  I invited many of the staff, and it was well attended, from the Captain to the staff Captain, Maitre D, etc.  I can locate the name of the Princess contact if you tell me the ship.  I will also give you a list of all I invited, as well as a sample name tag.  I did not involve cruise critic.

I addressed the envelopes with title only.  I included a form letter as well.  Stay away form the term Meet and Mingle - Princess does not use it.

I didn't see anything about the Crab Shack at all but MixerDave said it was offered once. I remember seeing the pub lunches offered when we were on the Star back in May but don't think I saw it on this cruise. Although I wasn't particularly looking for it so I could be wrong.

We were having lunch in the buffet and we were approached about it.

In our 2018 Celebrity Mediterranean cruise, Celebrity offered a 33% discount for each specialty restaurant on the first night of the cruise.

Does Princess do something similar? Do they offer any other S R promotions?

If I recall, the specialty restaurants on Celebrity are $49 p/p - a 33% discount brings them close to Princess charge of $29 p/p

Yes, Super Shuttle can be a pain, especially if there are multiple pick up stops at the airport and then multiple drop off stops on the way to your destination.  All that time can really add up to an additional hour or two on delays in getting to your drop off point.  It is frustrating, to say the least.

I do have to ask, though ... did Super Shuttle pick you up right outside the airport terminal or do you have to take a bus to another lot for your ride?

Right outside - received a test message - told me the van # and there was a Super Shuttle employee there.   Only Uber / Lyft have  a separate pick up point

Just went through the motions with super shuttle. It was giving me $36 each way. With tax and tip is little over $80 roundtrip. 😲

I took a shared super shuttle from LAX to San Pedro yesterday afternoon - one way to Doubletree - flight was a little late - boarded Super Shuttle at 4 - arrived at the hotel at 5:45 after multiple stops - NEVER AGAIN - several of the stops were in residential neighborhoods!!
