  1. Are the pools heated? Are people actually using the slides and pools on Alaska trips?

    Thanks

The ship hasn’t sailed yet, so maybe check back in a couple months and see what people think?

  2. I like to call it the "anticipatory value portion of the cruise". If you are excited in the time before the cruise I think that is getting value out of the cruise before you are even onboard.

Enjoy the anticipation! The dream is almost as fun as the reality that awaits.

    ;p

I am the same way! I enjoy the vacation for months before it actually occurs, and when I sadly had to cancel vacation plans a few years ago, I was consoled (a little!) by the fun I had for all the time preceding the cancellation. So it is a good thing to be excited and think/research ahead of time!

That is exactly it! Thank you! This is fun :)

  3. Thanks for the tip on Steve! My wife and I are on the same cruise as you, and have been looking for a small boat whale watching excursion such as this. NCL offered one 10 years ago when we did Alaska on the Star, but cant find one now. The bigger boats looked terrible last time, and our small boat was awesome!

Awesome! Steve is super nice, and I have read great things about him. Feel free to join our rollcall if you’d like.

  4. So, fun update, I officially cancelled with Harv and Marc’s for my whale watching and booked with Steve Olmstead. Steve apparently once worked for Harv and Marv’s, is related to Jolayne, and was a fan favorite before he got his own company. I just get a great vibe from him and he is going to drop me off at the glacier. Hooray. Here’s his website if anyone is interested in the future.

  5. BEAUTY TIP - Purchase Rodan and Fields Lash Booster. Fabulous. You will have real lashes by the trip. You will have to find a person who sells this unbelievable product.

I have heard great things, but I actually have super long lashes. They are just sparse, and blonde :) I need to wake up with big, dark, drag-queen eyelashes :)

  6. I certainly wouldn't take the comment about this being an odd thread as anything more than an observation. It's a bit different than many threads but I think it's great as you are just so excited for your cruise you want to share it with others. You are giving it your flair and there is nothing wrong with that.

We will be bringing the Pearl to you in just a little over 3 weeks. We are going to take our time though taking 21 days to get her from New Orleans to Seattle. Sorry we will be going so slow but we thought we would extend your anticipatory value a bit longer. ;p

That’s ok, have a drink on the 8th for me- it’s my REAL birthday :)

  7. 47 days until my cruise. 45 until my trip begins. That’s a solid month and a half, yahoo!

I decided that if captain Steve will still take me, I will cancel the whale watching tour I booked and go with him. I just have a good feeling.

In the meantime, in honor of the crazy straw I ordered in the shape of my name, to be used with all cocktails on this cruise, I set up a pub crawl for our first night.

  8. Hi,

I am 90 days out from my sailing on NCL Escape (June 10) and and would like to book a thermal suite spa pass. I have logged into my account, and when I go to the spa and thermal suites tab, it lists 42 different spa services that I can sign up for, but I cant for the life of me find where to get the thermal suite spa pass. I have been waiting for this 90 day mark to buy it , haha! I have scrolled through everything they have listed as an option. Anyone have any suggestions as what I am doing wrong? Thanks!!

I would just give it a couple days.

  9. Re letting the cruise line know beforehand. Isn’t there the potential of getting charged a solo supplement if you do that?

I don’t have any first hand knowledge, but I’m sure I’ve read discussions on here where people have let NCL know that their partner won’t be sailing and the booking has been altered to a solo sailing with an increased charge. The advice given was that they should have kept quiet and just left their partner as a no show.

Again, I don’t know any of this from personal experience, but I’d hate the OP to end up paying more.

The solo supplement is because no one paid for the other half of the room. Her friend already paid the other half of the room.

  10. For legal reasons, free should be completely free. If McDonalds offered you free fries with your burger, you get them free, you don't pay taxes or gratuity on them.

Instead of pre-paying gratuity which the NCL waiters NEVER see, just make drink packages completely free with the expectation that you must offer cash tip to the waiters for every single drink. That is more than fair.

NCL is just pocketing the pre-paid gratuity for extra profit like a typical corporation. Your drink package isn't free. It's paying for the Johnny Walker Black Label and coke you ordered.

No, if you win a free car, or a free vacation, or a free million dollar lottery, or a free meal at ato a restaurant with Service, you pay the taxes, you pay the tip.

  11. Not much to report right now, but that never stopped me before.

The new internet packages came out, and are available to purchase, but I promised myself I’d take care of a few other things first, and pay for it with my state return. NJ YOU ARE SO SLOW!

I haven’t made a decision re: Harv and Marv Vs. Captain Steve. I’d rather captain Steve, but do I really want to babysit a refund coming to my bank

Account? I am not so sure.

I did book my eyelashes for the day before I fly to Seattle. Behold, what a skilled eyelash extensioneer can do (this was pre-my first cruise.)

  12. People you are on a freaking cruise, unplug already and NO you do not HAVE TO be on line for work...

Some people don’t have a choice and DO have to be online for work.

Some people own their own businesses and need to be in touch.

Some people have rental properties and need to be in touch.

Some people need to claim benefits and need to be in touch.

Some people have family issues- elderly, young, sick, pregnant, and need to be in touch.

Some people WANT to be in touch, to blog, instagram, write, read, etc.

Please don’t color everyone with your crayon.

  13. My understanding was to get the new rate with the price drop, I'd have to cancel and rebook. Is that not the case? I may have been given bad info from a relative.

I believe it’s technically considered a cancellation and rebook but you just call and tell them you want to change it to the new room. Just know that whatever the promos you got when you booked will disappear and you will get whatever promos are offered now instead. This could become a problem if your promo was 3rd sails free if they don’t offer it now, for example.

  14. Say we have 2 people to a room so far, and another person isn't sure yet - providing 3 are allowed to sleep in the room, does NCL allow us to add that 3rd person to the room reservation at a later date? Or does it all have to be done at one time...

Depends on if the lifeboats are filled or not. It’s better to add them when you book and remove them if you have to before the penalty.
