Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. They do offer it, just be sure to sign up on day 1 or 2. I was planning to take the train and on the day before disembarkation I changed my mind and decided to look into the MSC transfer shuttle. By that time it was full so I ended up just taking the train. Simple though. There's are shuttles running from the terminal to the train station, 2 minute ride (can't remember how many Euro, but cash only), or you can walk it if you don't have too much luggage.
  2. As Essiesmom said, lots of good information on that website, including this video of your cabin. I was on World Europa in November in 18016 and found it to be a little bit of a long walk to the YC elevator. Maybe I missed a shortcut? No biggie, but on my next cruise in July I chose 18009 on the other side of the ship.
  3. I agree with Mike C. Although, I do like to grab lunch once or twice at Hola Tacos because the food is fun and the price for all you care to eat is, I think, less than $20 per person. Most of the margaritas are included with the YC drink package. I wouldn't use my Diamond meal credit there though because it's so inexpensive already.
  4. That was a great trip report. Thanks for taking the time. Good read.
  5. This has been an entertaining thread. This is really not problem in the Yacht Club, though. And, go...
  6. I stayed in 16003 on the port side and there was no noise from the deck above. I booked 16002 while I was on that cruise because that, to me, was a the best location right by the top sail lounge. But, then Covid happened and it wasn't meant to be. I would hang onto that cabin, I think you'll love it.
  7. This is sound advice. Unless it's absolutely necessary, I try not to tweak my reservation with MSC after I've booked. You will receive an email with an updated reservation confirmation a few minutes after you complete your phone call with customer service. More than once I've looked at the new document and discovered a change or an error unrelated to the issue I called about originally. It's just a weird thing with MSC that I've learned to accept and work around. Now, having said that, to me it would be worth the risk to be able to move to an angled or larger balcony. Let me give you a couple of examples of the relatively minor (but still somewhat annoying) issues I've had after contacting customer service for a change: 1) emailed existingreservations to add my military discount - got the discount but they changed my fare to the current "sale" which was higher than the original fare I booked. 2) I requested to change my cabin from port side to starboard side (same YC category) - I noticed that I lost the OBC I had gotten as part of the promo going on when I originally booked. The customer service agents are always very helpful, it's just an oddity that, like I said, I learned to live with by avoiding messing with my reservation.
  8. I had 16004 on two sailings. Zero noise, very quiet, no traffic in that area and no noise from the Top Sail lounge. On one of those sailings our friends stayed next to us in 16002 and they said it was quiet in their cabin as well. BTW, there is a door to the lounge right outside the cabin with a "Staff Only" sign. I asked, and the butler said there was no problem with me using that access door. It came in handy for quick trips back to the cabin.
  9. I don't usually request anything, but they sometimes notice what you like and make sure to provide more of that. A couple of examples on separate sailings on Meraviglia, early on one cruise I mentioned that the pears in the fruit basket were delicious. Later that day an entire bowl of pears showed up in my cabin. On another cruise, on the first night I ordered a Manhattan at the Top Sail lounge bar on my way back to my cabin for the night. Every night for the rest of the cruise I had a Manhattan waiting for me in my cabin after turn-down service. That's one of my favorite differences between MSC YC and NCL Haven, MSC will bring a drink to your cabin where NCL butlers have to charge you for that. I always tell this butler story from the NCL Gem Haven. There were a few of us having drinks in my cabin and the butler asked if he could get us anything. I asked if he could bring us a couple of cheese boards. He agreed and left to get them. It seemed like he was gone for an eternity but when he finally got back he was smiling and waving two chess games and apologizing that it took him a bit to track down the second one. We thanked him and tipped well for the effort, never mentioning the misunderstanding.
  10. I'm going on Meraviglia in November, and I booked the Acela from Providence for $56 each way. It's cheap if you book early enough. Can't beat that price for the convenience, although Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is a bit more of an effort from the train station than the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. The best part is the return trip home. No worries, just relax and enjoy the view and you really don't need to be at the train station as early as you would if you were flying.
  11. I stayed in 16004 twice and had friends staying in 16002 on the second sailing (not B2B). The first sailing, while pulling into port and standing at the balcony rail of 16004, I discovered that my neighbor in 16002 had a slight angle on the forward corner of his balcony which allowed him a perfect forward view without having to lean out and look to his left. Small thing that I would not switch cabins for, but I thought that was pretty neat. When my friends booked that cabin on my second trip, I got a chance to check it out. The chamfered corner takes away a tiny bit of space on the balcony, but still cool. I found the 16002/16004 location near the Top Sail lounge a benefit because the staff had no issues with us using the side door to come and go from the lounge. All starboard YC cabins have a great view of Ocean Cay. I also stayed in 18019 and prefer being on deck 18 because you’re one deck from the lounge and one from the pool area.
