  1. I didn’t mention it by name bc CC has trained me to always refer to things, but not mention them (big box TA). It was Reddit. I’m going to link it, maybe it will work? FWiW, Reddit cruise people are all the time recommending coming to cruise critic. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cruise/comments/vzwozl/cancelled_stops_due_to_motor_failure_questions/
  2. There is a thread on another massive online forum, on the cruise sub. Someone there is saying it’s a hairline crack or failed seal. I have no idea what that means for anything. And, of course, just rumors.
  3. I am, too. It’s just one of those things that makes me think the gods are against me.
  4. Ugh. I really feel for everyone on the ship. Missing ports, and dealing with this. But, I’m supposed to board on Sunday. And, this is was a trip planned last minute when Yellowstone flooded. Which was actually our 4th time trying to get there, with 3 previous trips canceled. I’m starting to feel like the universe is telling me to stay home.
  5. We do you go? I’ll be there on the 19, and our excursion for the day is a dear old friend picking us up and taking us around. So I may come back with info.
  6. You mean if you have it in your carryon. For checked bag, there isn’t a size limit, but best to avoid aerosol containers because of the pressure changes. But you can get wipes! Or q liquid pump bottle
  7. If you have two people, did you do two separate 15 minute zoom calls? Or did you do one appointment? I’m assuming it’s a cost per person/certification vs per appointment. So, together may save effort but not money. and yes, I have tried online chat with one company, and emailed two another. So far, no response. So I thought I would ask how it worked for others.
  8. This is how I keep justifying it in my head. If it’s going to happen, at least it’s doing something cool.
  9. FYI, I never got around to calling, my work day makes it hard to make a call with an unknown hold time. But, I got the reply that it was added today. 21 days from submission (June 15-July 6).
  10. And some of this can depends on the person. We stayed in a place with bedbugs on night, and it felt them all night - I tried rationalizing with myself that I was being paranoid. I scratched my legs raw in my “sleep” ( I wasn’t sleeping). And, this is gross, but there was half a dead bedbug stuck to my leg in dried blood in the morning. We left the next morning. Somehow, we did not bring them home. This was 20 years ago when they first started making their resurgence. As for the OP, I can somewhat imagine how it went. Something (the bites?) soured the trip and it was hard to recover. Also, someone correct me if I am wrong, but “bronchitis” is not a contagious bug, it’s an inflammation/infection that develops after your have another infection as it stews in your lungs. You can get it after a cold, the flu, Covid, RSV, etc. But generally not in an of itself. Starve diagnosis on the first or second day of a cough.
  11. They always list a primary cause of death and contributing factors. So, if you are hit by a bus, while you were undergoing cancer treatments, it would still list cancer as something you had when you died. “From” and “with” are tagged differently on a death certificate in everyone I’ve ever seen (thousands, reading them is a big part of my job).
  12. I’m kind of surprised I found it, but here is my review of the zaandam with comments about the Victoria stop. (Edit to add: full speed run at 23 knots from Ketchikan down, and didn’t get in until 8pm, since it was before Memorial Day, Butchart closed at 10pm. So we got 1:15 in the gardens)
  13. We did Butchart Gardens on a 2009 cruise (same Seattle r/t). It was super tight and rushed then, before they shortened the port time. It seems like the shortened port times must be more realistic, because I think I remember being about an hour late getting there. But, it’s the kind of place you really need all day, IMHO (but I am also a garden person).
  14. Your luggage tag and transfer story has me pondering. I’ve downloaded our luggage tags, which say they will also be used for debarkment. We do not have a transfer (family member picking us up. No rush to airport). And we are group A, brown. I wonder what this is going to me. And honestly, I saw that bit about it being for debarkement, too, and thought “great intentions, I’m sure it can be changes”
  15. I channeled my inner 20-something IT gal (I actually did work in software development in my 20s, Win95 era), grabbed his phone, and found the settings option in the app. There actually is an option to always stream, but the default was set to download. Yay! And I confirmed he uses Libby (I still use overdrive to get ebooks, even though my library is trying to push us toward Libby). So, Libby is solved! This was really the big one. We both got Michener’s Alaska to read on the trip (to Alaska). Me book version, him audio. I’m hoping we can have our own balcony book club. Michener is about the only genre overlap we have. 😂 I’m also downloading a bunch of peloton workouts. Mostly yoga and stretching. Mostly in case one or both of us ends up in quarantine so we have something to do. And I think if you download, the app just pings the mothership for licensing reasons. You know, to make sure you didn’t download the whole library and then cancel the service.
  16. I’m a huge fan of magnetic hooks. But I also have hooks all over my house, because my ADD can’t sit still long enough to open a closet, grab a hanger, fumbled with getting it to hang on the hanger right, and then reversing everything. And without my own hooks for things, I’ll hang so much on the pair of hooks it’s like Jenga. I’ve heard the over the door things are more useful with you have 4 in a cabin. Not 2. And I do have a lanyard. Because womens clothes don’t have enough pockets and ain’t no one want to carry a purse on a cruise. 😂
  17. This is the thing that makes me feel the testing is futile. Testing 2 days before tells you nothing about who is boarding the ship pre-symptomatic. Although, I wouldn’t say they are unreliable. They aren’t great for identifying pre-symptomatic cases. But, their sensitivity is pretty good once symptoms develop. ugh. I have such mixed feelings about this. The logic/medical side of my brain does say it doesn’t do any good. But it also may also prevent the person who tries to continue on with their plans despite being ill. on the vaccination thing, keeping that helps the cruise line more than the passengers. Vaccination reduces severity, so if someone does get sick, the medical facilities on board are able to handle it. And that’s why I think that is likely to stick around long. Not to help passengers, but to help the on-board medical crew.
  18. Ooo. Good to know. I’ll have to make him look that he is downloading. He told me he thinks it doesn’t download, but streams. But, neither of our tech skills were what they once were, so it’s possible it’s downloaded and he doesn’t know 😂
  19. @kazu Thanks for the nudge. I originally wanted to give them 2 weeks, but it wasn’t until this post that I double checked the dates and realized I was over my mental line.
  20. Can you connect 2 devices at the same time? On NCL, the cheaper wifi packages were one device at a time, so would would have to disconnect to connect up the other. Also, I know it’s not the streaming package. So no streaming movies, which is fine. But my H listens to audiobooks from the library, which stream audio. Much less bandwidth than a movie. But are “streaming apps” blocked. Specific app is Overdrive or Libby. Similar question on the peloton app. I can preload the workouts so they aren’t streaming. But it needs to talk to the mothership for licensing reasons. Anyone know if they block steaming by blocking traffic related to certain websites/apps? And if those are in the block list?
  21. Ha! A good portion of my childhood neighborhood is just gone! Returned to nature thanks to some sinkhole stuff. The town I live in now really reminds me of oak ridge. Other than the fact has a population of about 100,000. But my neighborhood is the same 60s and 70s houses of the west side. And if I had kids, they could ride their bikes all over - school, stores, friends. I think that is why I feel so happy here (we moved a year ago). It truly is *home.* My husband move to town in 6th grade, and into one of those new, huge house, subdivisions out by the lake, so he doesn’t quite have the same feelings of home here. Rivers Run was not real Oak Ridge. 😂
  22. I’m 16 days in and haven’t received confirmation. Ugh.
  23. There have been other threads speculating it’s a fuel saving measure, so they can go a bit slower. In 2009, we did the Seattle loop, and I recall checking the speed Ketichikan to Victoria and it was very fast for a vessel that size, and a long run, and we were still late getting into Victoria.
  24. @CupKayke am I reading right, you got back to the ship at 7-ish and still were able to order dining room for room service? So it was still available even though it was >1 hour from the dining room opening? Was that because of the late port do you think?
