  1. Not sure first class on an AA Regional Jet to Hobby outweighs the convenience of love field on a 40 minute flight
  2. It will be cheaper, fasterand more convenient to just grab an Uber from Hobby
  3. I live in Galveston and take Ubers weekly from HOU and ocassionally from IAH and have not had a problem.
  4. I live in Galveston and the most I have waited is 20 minutes for an Uber to the airport. The drivers have the port schedule and come from Houston and as far as Beaumont to work the ships. While I typically fly out of Hobby, never had an issue getting a ride to Intercontinental. The “Houston” drivers typically take the airport runs whilst the “Galveston” drivers take the Island hotels
  5. Be very careful. You are flying out of IAH Bush Intercontinental airport not HOU Houston Hobby airport In your language LaGuardia vs. JFK for Houston. Can take up to 1.5 hours or about $110 Uber depending on surge pricing to get to IAH from Galveston. You may be better off taking Southwest from HOU to LaGuardia or Islip depending where you end up. HOU is about 45 minute drive from Galveston. Note AA and DL fly out of HOU as well.
  6. I fly weekly to/from Hobby from Galveston and never have had a issue w Uber. With seven though you will need more than 1 uber
  7. One other thought is if you are there Sunday morning, The Galvez does a great Sunday brunch buffet, with seafood tower. Pricey, but fabulous. Would not recommend for kids.
  8. For Kids, Rainforest Cafe Bubba Gump on the Pleasure Peer (Warning means you will be paying for rides once they see it) Shark Shack Beach Bar Huli Huli hut The Spot Fishermans Warf Sharkys Tavern
  9. I live next to Tremont. Either valet or street parking. Street parking (you will find something within a block is about $20/day. Note street parking is free 6pm to 9am. The cruise parking lots are a block from the Tremont. Don't leave your car on the street while you are the cruise, you will be ticketed. Be sure to get to the Tremont early enough to enjoy the happy hour jazz combo. Dance! Mr Man
  10. I live in the Strand, and for local place or other options that are not mentioned above, the best meal on the Island is at Downtown Shrimp & Stuff, blackened catfish. Spicy, salty, with a great garlic butter sauce. Yum. Other places not highlighted above Downtown Shrimp and Stuff $$ Huli Huli Hut $$ Ruby and Pacos $$$$ Grand Galvez Sunday Brunch $$$$ Number 13 $$$$
  11. I live downtown Galveston. Many hotel shuttles will take you to port. In addition Lift and Uber are in Galveston. Have not had many issues, latest I have waited is 15 minutes. If you have the $$ my recommendation is 1)Tremont (strand area), 2) Harbor House (Strand Area), 3)Grand Galvez (Seawall), 4)San Louis (Seawall), 4)Hilton (Seawall). All the above will be pricey. Go to Kayak to find other more reasonable options as well
  12. I live in Galveston and take Uber weekly to Hobby. plan on 50-80 dollars depending on surge pricing.
  13. I live in Galveston and can give some background. Uber would not pay port of galveston fees which maintain rideshare waiting area parking lot. Local paper just announced Uber has agreed to join the port of galveston and pay the fees. Either way, my understanding is prior to this agreement Uber could drop off, but not pick up.
  14. Advise from someone who lives in Galveston: *Fly into Hobby, a lot easier. It will take you an hour just to get out of IAH. Hourly flights to most CA cities to Hobby. *Take an uber from Hobby to port. Go outside baggage claim, Uber area in parking lot is "5" *Go a day earlier. Splurge and get a room at Tremont. Walk for some nice seafood or Italian and listen to a great jazz combo at Tremont. Will cost but it is worth it on vacation. *Walk over to cruise terminal. If going on RCL, hotel shuttle or Uber to Terminal
