  1. Right--Lincoln never has anything that works--many fewer flights and more expensive. Good luck with getting your home city changed! I finally did, just with complications.

Changing mine was a piece of cake cause I hadn't booked anything yet. But I would have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to do it myself if you hadn't mentioned it.

Does anyone know if it makes a difference in TA commission if I book EZAir myself or have her do it? I want to play around with dates and times and it will be faster if I do it myself.

  2.

There really are no viable options nearer than Omaha for us. Some small regional airports, that's it. When on other sites (didn't see that I could do this on Princess) I do usually check the 'other airports' tab, but have never actually gotten another possibility come up.

Glad you mentioned this, just getting ready to set up my EZAir and noticed I'm getting Lincoln instead of Omaha. We are about halfway between by Lincoln has a lot less options at a little more money.

  3. We're in Raleigh. I think one of the reasons there wasn't a line in Guernsey was that the ship arrived so early: 6 a.m. We made it to the dining room used for tender tickets at 7:15. We were directed to go to an area near the other door and then they announced that everyone in the room could head down to the tender.

Thanks. Have added that to my notes for Guernsey. We are early risers so we might as well take advantage of that. Hopefully that will hold true for Edinburgh.

  4. I was amazed last month on the Caribbean Princess that there were no long lines for tenders in the two tender ports--St. Peter Port (Guernsey) and South Queensferry. Being Elite did not help us much--just getting us to the front of the line leaving the dining room instead of the back of the line.

Hope that holds true next year in June.

Where are you from in NC? Son lives just outside of Asheville.

  5. Very true. Very few non-stops except short hops like Chicago or Denver. We usually use FF miles so actually paying for flights is a little shocking! But, too many miles required for this trip and/or no seats left anyway.

But, we do like living the uncongested, free, clean life in Nebraska--except for winter, of course. Our low cost of living probably makes up for a lot of flight costs!

I was trying to use southwest miles to get to somewhere I could fly to Heathrow. When one of the flights to an east coast air port went through Denver I have up and decided ezair was the answer.

  6. I had seen a post somewhere that you were allowed to take soda onboard. Now I just have to worry that English Pepsi won't taste the same as my Pepsi, and find a store to get some and convince DH that we really NEED to take it onboard with us. Princess being coke was a strike against them. But really I don't mind fountain coke that much it's the can coke that I dislike.

  7. Thanks everyone. I will try both methods and see what works best. I *think* I have tried the second method but prices were actually higher than I booked. I don't remember seeing the prices side by side tough.

Prices seem very high, compared, for instance, with fares to Europe, but maybe it is partly because of high demand or because I am flying from Omaha, not a major air hub. But then we always fly from Omaha.

I've run into the same thing trying to find flights from Omaha. Sometimes being smack dab in the middle of the country isn't a good thing.:(

  8. "You mentioned Tripadvisor, but have you thought to go to the DESTINATIONS section at the top of the CC home page? From the dropdown choose ALL DESTINATIONS then St Peter Port from the ports drop down."

I had never noticed destinations before, thank you. More reading for me to do.

  9. Someone mentioned on one of the many "prepare for your cruise" threads I read, a cell phone lanyard by Gear Beast. I used that lanyard the whole time. Always had my hands free and my phone was right there if I wanted to take a pic. Most of the time I didn't have pockets and if I did by the time I'd dig my phone out the picture op would be gone. DH used lanyard on the ship most of the time and pocket off (better pockets.)

  10. Thanks, Thrak and Geoherb, I was starting to get a little bit of a complex. A balcony would be great but for the difference in price, I can also spend time in London before the cruise, and my TA got us a sideways cabin which looks amazing compared to the cabin on the Pearl.

And I wasn't suggesting the people on here were snobs just the people you run into.

  11. We just walked around St. Peter Port on our stop in Guernsey last month. The highlights for us were the Candie Gardens and Castle Cornet. Our stop was not as long, so we just went to those two main sights. We stopped by the base of the Victoria monument--too early to get a key from the museum to go up in it. We were also too early for the museum and did not want to walk back uphill after Castle Cornet.

That's kind of what I'm leaning towards too. I've heard Guernsey gets skipped sometimes cause the sea is too rough for tendering and I don't want to plan something really special and have to miss it. Ship gets in really early (6am) and if I figure a couple of hours before we can get off, that's still going to be pretty early for anything to be open. Supposed to leave at 5 so we'll want to plan on being back at the ship by 3:30-4 (?) so that doesn't really leave a lot of time. Hopefully it will be nice enough that we can walk around Castle Cornet and walk back and forth to ship so we can see some of the town.

  12. After reading about all the snobs on Princess cruises, I'm starting to rethink my decision to cruise Princess. Our first Princess cruise and only our 2nd cruise and after reading this thread am feeling like we shouldn't be on a Princess cruise (or maybe any cruise) since we have an inside cabin. :')

  13. Thanks

I was just doing that now as a matter of fact. Looks like Castle Cornet, Hauteville House and Herm Island (Shell Beach) are the spots we would be most interested in. Trip Adviser poster indicates 3-4 hours at Castle Cornet and that Shell Beach is beautiful. Appears it is only about a mile walk so wouldn't even need a bus to get there (might getting back though after 3-4 hours exploring.)

  14. Thanks Steve. Google said 54 minutes but we all know how that goes. So if we can get off by 9-9:30 he/we should be able to make an 11am tour. I'll ask again and see if time has improved any in a few months. This is so exciting. We had both just scratched off the list thinking it wasn't feasible and this is the one thing he has said he'd like to do when we started talking about the trip so I'd really like to make it happen. Maybe someone on Roll Call would like the trip also and I could go to castles.

  15.

Now its easy to see the Old Course, as a lot of it is bordered by publicroads, and you can look over the fence, if he wants to walk the course he would probably have to play,if you look at www.standrews.com/play/courses/old-couse under the relax section it show tours of the old course..though whether the times would fit in im not sure

That would be great. Can anyone tell me how long it would take to get from South Queensferry to St. Andrews? I'm sure Google maps could give me a number but someone that actually knows would be better. Ship arrives at 7, couple hours to get off. Tour is at 11am or 2pm, 2 pm would probably make me very tense. :)

  16. So now that cruise is booked I thought I'd ask what your favorite place to visit in the various stops we'll make. I'll do them one at a time and spread out the questions so as not to hog the board.

First stop is Guernsey. We will be there June 7th 2018, which is I believe a Thursday. 6am/6pm but tendering so probably about 8 hours in port, if it isn't canceled due to weather.

What is not to be missed? What excursion did you take (ship, private or DIY?) Since we will be, as I saw somewhere, "sampling" our various stops, what would you sample?

Thanks in advance for all the help suggestions. Everyone has been so incredibly helpful. If you ever want to cruise to Nebraska, I'll be happy to return the favor.;p
