Rumours are Royal Caribbean will be signing a contract and announcing a new class of ship early next year , a mid size ship , Discovery of the seas. Meyer Werft in Germany have been working on it for a couple of years as the rumours go. The source of the rumours is supposed to be Meyer Werft staff It supposed to be starting when they finish the Disney ships in 2027.

Yes ,at the moment supply is the biggest problem but it will change. In the short term a multi fuelled ship would be more practical . Oil ,ethanol,ammonia and maybe a gas. In Australia we have lots of sun and Japan along with our Government is currently investing heavily in green Hydrogen . I believe California is also. It won’t be long before it’s common place.California and Japan seems to set the standard. I wasn’t aware Royal was already using hydrogen fuel cells on their ships. What ships are they ?

Isn’t ammonia in a liquid? But my point is ,in a rapidly changing world.Oil is getting a bad rap and LNG seems to have it’s drawbacks. They would have to find alternatives for a ship of the future .

It’s not here yet but this is a couple of years ago . I think the biggest problem at the moment is what kind of fuel a smaller ship would use. LNG would take up too much room and oil is out of the question. Ammonia or hydrogen is just around the corner so that’s a possibility. Pull Celebrity Egde drawings out ,put in a waterpark and slide with Ammonia hybrid fuel and we have Discovery of the seas.

Cruise excursions will be looking better and a lot easier ,I wonder if they had anything to do with it. Just wondered around, had a couple of beers at the brewery,lovely viewing deck Had a coffee a couple of times there ,a lovely little town .Just to get of the ship as we were feeling lazy. With Christchurch the way it is it’s a fair distance to get anywhere like the mountains. So ,just veg out ,I’m pretty good at that.

So private shore excursions will leave from Christchurch I suppose. Last season I remember a private company that we went with complaining they weren’t allowed to pick up at the ship. They said it was the cruise companies that told customs or whoever it was ,it’s a security risk.

Last year, I thought Christchurch resembled a big building site. Not the Christchurch from before the earthquake and I wouldn’t bother going back there. Lyttelton ,just to get off the ship ,was lovely.

I’m on in a couple of weeks and have a couple of questions. Whats the in house band and do they and where do they have a singles and veteran get togethers.

It could be Our local Rccl boss has been on about Lelepa and a year round ship to serve it. Navigator might be that ship ,it would be perfect to compete with carnival.

Ovation wouldn’t be staying in OZ ,maybe a smaller ship year round. Maybe Navigator. I wonder where Ovation is going ,Asia ? Los Angeles ? back to the Atlantic?
