  1. Sounds as if the cruise before yours is a repositioning cruise and it's the 1st time Summit will be in San Juan for the season. If that's the case not only do the disembarking passengers have to go through Customs and Immigration but the entire crew must go though too. That takes considerably more time. Your experience is likely to be unique to that cruise on 10/25 only.

Normally C & I is done in the same building as check-in, not on the ship.

Thanks, Ernie, that is the case with the repositioning -- and good to know.

  2. Where do you go though customs in San Juan? I would have thought at the port facility itself but received this text from Celebrity. Is it normal to go though customs on the ship in San Juan? Thanks.

Hello, this is Celebrity Cruises. We are contacting you with important information regarding your upcoming sailing on the Celebrity Summit. Once Celebrity Summit arrives to San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 25, there will be a required full guest immigration inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for onboard guests. This inspection may impact your boarding experience as we cannot board your sailing until the inspection has been completed. Therefore, check-in for your cruise will take place between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM as published. To enhance your check-in and boarding experience, please do not plan to arrive at the terminal prior to 1:00 PM. We look forward to welcoming you onboard the Celebrity Summit.

  3. Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

I am traveling by air from the U.S. to Rio and then by air from Rio tlo Buenos Aires which I will embark and disembark before returning from Buenos Aires to the US by air. Think I'll give the Argentine and Brazil embassies a call to see what they advise. It obviously helps to save $320 -- but it's a drop in the bucket if you aren't allowed to enter the country.

Wish the U.S. would drop the reciprocity fee for South Americans!

  4. Curious to see if any dual passport holders used a secondary passport to avoid the reciprocity fee in Brazil or Argentina. I am a US citizen but also an Irish passport holder. It worked in 2011 for Chile -- but I know they are also getting tigher.

  5. After browsing through the excellent Copenhagen thread I thought about starting one for Iceland as well: I'm a regular cruiser that lives in Reykjavik, Iceland and not affiliated with any tour companies. So if you have any questions about the Icelandic ports of call and surrounding attractions feel free to ask.quote]

Karlth, Kath here -- and I will be stopping in Iceland for 5 days ahead of our cruise and will read through this thread. But I wanted to see if you can recommend any other pools/spas right inside Reykjavik other than the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is very high on the list -- but at $50 a visit on the low end, probably won't do this every day. And what about that thermal beach nearby???

    Thanks.

    Kath

  6. Thanks for the links. Seems to be mixed reviews

That's what I thought - but I'm sure there will be trip reports coming in soon. Although it has to be paid 8 weeks before, I'm thinking that they will take reservations right up until the last minute.

  7. That is a shame that Mount Osorno wasn't fully visible. I was so disappointed when we couldn't see it early in the day. But we were rewarded with an unusually clear couple hours to enjoy it.

Have a great time in amazing SE Asia.

Thanks, looking forward to Asia. I did note that you also missed out on the cruising days during the different passages. We also thought they were sea days and not scenic passage days.

  8. Thanks Kathy. I'm glad you enjoyed the review and hope it brought back some fond memories.

Thanks, Mike, it did bring back memories -- but not of the Volcano in Puerto Montt -- as it was hidden most of the day with some glimpses. We had a great cruise and are planning another trip to Southeast Asia in 2013 with those I met on the Infinity.

    Tally ho!

    Kathy
