  1. Oh where, oh where have the solo bargains gone?

Oh where, oh where can they be

I am so ready to go

    But my checkbook says no

Oh where, oh where can they be?:o:D

lol, Yeah....there don't seem to be many specials for solo's that I've noticed. Just a message on the Carnival board about an the Spirit cruise to Hawaii in April 2012. The 1A cabin was listed at 150%. I don't really know the specifics but they said that it was $1,843. The thread was "New policy!!! 1a solos no longer 150%". I haven't really priced Hawian cruises so I don't know if this is good or not.

I'm hoping that once the summer season ends, we'll start seeing more specials.

  2. Hi, everyone, I need to pick your brains, please.

Explorer of the Seas - out of Bayonne, 9/11/10 - Cat H (OV) $984.07 (five night Bermuda) - single occupancy - is this a good price?

Cat N is 810.07. Both prices are total.

There are less expensive cruises out of my area, however, I won't sail north, and won't leave out of NY/NJ in the colder months. And I don't want to fly, if I can help it (mostly because it will cost more).

Any opinions? Suggestions? Thanks for your help!

    Donna

I have taken a few 8-day Carnival Miracle cruises out of NY for between $1,000 and 1,200 and it's an 8 day cruise. But you have to watch for the 1A cabins. The total cost is a little more but the per day cost is much cheaper. Actually I was checking an on-line site and saw an 8 day cruise on the Miracle from 5/31/10 - 6/8/10 for $789 + taxes/fees.

  3. A case of look before you type! I did check on the Triumph which is a ship I have gotten these cabins on before and for some reason on the sailings out of New Orleans the deck plans are showing these as 6B's . However on other ships with these cabins they still appear to be 1A's on some of the dates I checked. So, really hard to say what is going on or how these cabins will be categorized in the future, will just have to check each individual sailing. Sorry for any confusion.

My guess is that these 1A's will be reclassified when Carnival reclassifies all the cabins on the ship. Just a guess. But I do appreciate you mentioning that it has already been done on some ships.

  4. Ok Thanks.(sorry for the BAD English! Doing too many things at once) I just looked at the air..from BOS..and it is high! Must be school vacation or something...have FUN!!

You're welcome. You're right that it's still spring brake for colleges and schools. I can understand about the airfare. A lot of times that's a major factor.

Thanks, I'm sure that I'll have a great cruise.

  5. Hi I am booked on the Destiny in a 1a at the back on the main level room 2334 is that one with windows ?? I would love it if it were this is my first cruise and I am going solo !!

My guess would be that it does have an oceanview since it's along the ship. It appears that it's classified as a 1A because of being near the steps and an odd shape.

If you haven't looked at the layout, here's the link:

Have a great cruise! Let us know how much you enjoyed it when you get back.

  6. I got a higher price, how did you get it show the deal you saw?

From the carnival main page I select Funships than Triumph

    - selected <Itinerary> menu option

    - selected <April 12> sailing

    - selected <1> for the number of guest traveling

    - selected <Fun Saver Rate> under interior

    - selected <Edit> under Category

    - and went to the bottom of the page

Actually the price is now showing the 1A cabin as $598.50 + taxes/fees. I don't know if it makes a difference but the code that's defaulting is past guest (B) which I can't change the default. I'm sure there's a way but I haven't done it yet. When I try removing it, it gives an error about a code is required. lol

  7. I love TA's and repos! Great deal on raising the ranks from a 1A to balcony!

We end up in Dover, England; which I didn't realize was SO FAR from London (an expensive thing I overlooked, as it costs around $200US (for single) to transport to London ). Luckily I found CC mates to share transit with sightseeing for approx $90 pp :)

Wow, that's a lot just to get a transport from the port to London. Thank god for other CC people to allow you to join in with them. Just think you're basically having two vacations for the price of one. You get a long cruise, I loved the days at sea, and than you get to see London. How long will you be staying over there for?

  8. Congrats Mark! Were you upgraded from OCV? Was it a guarantee? I've noticed GTY's get many more upgrades than those that select a specific cabin.

Have a wonderful cruise! I'm leaving out of MIA on the 4/17 :) (on 11-day TA for slightly less solo balcony on NCL (no upgrade) ---- but  don't ask about flight home and tranfers around Europe :p - they truly add to the cruise price; in addition to time off work..... but YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE!)

Just realized you chose to upgrade. Mind sharing cost for upgrading and from what cabin type?

    Nancy,

I upgraded from a 1A cabin that had two port holes. It's the only cabin type on Carnival that doesn't have the 200% single supplement, it's only about 150%. So it's not considered an oceanview however it is, it's actually considered an inside cabin. I know it sounds weird but what can you say. Anyway the 7 day cruise for the 1A which was on the Main deck was costing 805.07 (748.50 cruise + 56.57 taxes/fees) and the balcony (8F) that I upgraded to is on the Spa deck cost $1,154.57 (1,098.00 cruise + 56.57 taxes/fees). So it cost about $350 more for the upgrade. These prices were my total costs of the cruise as a solo/single cruiser.

Thanks. I hope that you enjoy your trans-atlantic cruise and have a great time! I went on one last year and it was beautiful. I know what you mean about the travel costs, they can be killers. Where's your final destination? Italy?

  9. In case any of you are interested in a good price for a Balcony, I just upgraded to a Balcony on the 7-day Carnival Truimph 4/12 sailing out of Miami to San Jaun, St. Thomas & St.Martin. The total cost with the single supplement was $1,154 (1098.00 cruise + 56.57 tax/fees). Obviously it doesn't compare in price to a 1A cabin but it seems to be the best price that I've noticed for a balcony. Not that I look that often. lol

  10. I think anytime you get to, or close to, the $100 per night mark, it's pretty good. One down side to this is getting one way air to Italy.

    Rich

Rich, I couldn't agree with you more. The airfare these days are still high eventhough they've come down some. That being said, if you wanted spend a few days in Italy before hand, it's like two vacations in one. You get to see Italy which is beautiful and than a great cruise. Obviously, the pre-cruise vacation is dependant on the available cash on hand and being able to be gone for that long.

I know that RCCL has had some great prices on some of their trans-atlantic cruises (I think they leave from somewhere down South America) however when you price the airfare, the cost of airfare was multiple times more than the cruise itself.

  11. Booked my first B2B on the Victory for Feb 2010. Got one of the 1A cabins with the 2 large windows for both cruises. Prices were $690 (first week) & $710 (second week). That's $1400 for 2 weeks! :)

That's a good price, $100 a day for a solo traveler. That's usally what I use as a bench mark for a good deal. You're going to love doing a B2B because on the last night as everyone is getting ready to get off the ship the next day, you'll be looking forward to starting another week cruise. When I've done B2B's, it only took about 20 mins or so to leave the ship and get back on.

  12. I am trying to find out if a solo traveler can find a deal on the Hawaiian Norwegian Cruise lines for last minute travel. They have posted doubles at 950 and all agencies are quoting me 2500 for a solo traveler. I am booking a week in Oahu and want to book the March 7th one week cruise but I have no idea if I can get it for less money. Where do I start searching please help me with ideas. First time ever cruising solo:confused:

I just went to Norwegian's web site and put in a single person and their rate was $1,998 ($999 pp), it probably doesn't included taxes but I figured that I would just check it out because it just seemed weird to me that the TA that you asked would charge 2 people $1,900 and $2,500 for one person. Anyway, you can go to the cruise company's web site and than compare that price with some of the TA's. If you're not stuck on going on a particular cruise line, you can see if other's are sailing on that date also.

  13. Mark,

Thanks so much for posting this. I've been so FRUSTRATED not being able to shop for prices. I called CCL yesterday and spoke to someone about the issue. He said that there was an "upgrade" or better yet a downgrade:rolleyes: and that they have no ETA of when it'll be fixed. He never suggested the work around. Gotta love CCL.com Tech Support...or NOT.

I guess I never thought about checking out the edit button:eek:

    Thanks again.

You're welcome. I know the frustration that you were going through because I was there. lol I also sent a email to them but haven't heard anything back. Thanks for the info that they're going to fix it...at some point. I did notice that they had a new discount for last minute cruises, don't select that price because it will only show the guarentee categories (IS etc...) not the 1A.

  14. Faith,

Was this special from the Carnival website? It sounds great, but I am not getting the price you got. Please tell me your secret.

    Kerry

    Kerry,

I just went to Carnival's website and this is still available for sept. 12. Since Carnival's been having a bug in their scripts, the only way to view 1A's that I know of is to do the following:

    1) select the cruise so that you bring up the normal prices

    2) select 1 for [Number of guests traveling:] - Very important to view a price for 1 person

    3) select one of the prices

    4) press [edit] button under Category

This will bring up the list of Categories, at the very buttom of the page is the 1A price

  15. Mark,

Which cruise lines require formal every night? None of the mainstream lines - RCI, NCL, HAL, Celebrity, etc. require formal.

    Roz

From what I read, I believe that some of the Luxury Cruise lines like Crystal and Cunard require more formal attire in the dining room even on none "formal nights". To me, anytime that I can't wear jeans in a dining room is formal.

  16. Have you found Carnival inferior to other cruise lines?

I have only sailed on Carnival so I really can't make the comparison. Not that I wouldn't sail on another line, but because I've had a great time on every cruise that I've been on and it seems like Carnival has the best value. I'm not much into dressing up every night for dinner which would remove a few cruise lines from my list. It's nice to have a couple of formal nights but every night wouldn't be my thing, not to mention I can reduce my luggage space because I don't have to pack a suit jacket since they're no longer a requirement.

I personally wouldn't think that Carnival is inferior to any line but that's because they provide me with a cruise that I find meets all my expectations. I'm sure that there are people that are looking for something else and they would probably think differently. But that's why different lines exist, to provide the services that their clientale are looking for.

  17. I booked a 1A and paid 140%. Plus, once i arrived, they'd upgraded me to a bigger better cabin. When iwas searching for a single, Carnival was the only one that didn't charge 200%. Good Luck.

I've had the same experience Carolyne00. I've also have paid a couple times about 135-140% in a 1A. Most of the time I've been upgraded to a better cabin, the only two times that I wasn't were when I was one of the last passengers booked and when I booked a 1A on the Veranda deck and had a message attached to the booking that said I had to be called before being upgraded. Personally I would rather have an inside on that deck than an inside (4A) or outside on the Rivera deck.

  18. Is there a web site where singles booking 1A can chat about future cruises and maybe book aboard the same sailings? Therefore, more singles would be booked on the same vessel and go possibly book excursions or have dinner together, etc. I am unable to find friends and/or co-workers who are willing to take the time off from work or be willing to spend the money to go on a cruise. Karen

Karen, this is the perfect site for that. I believe that it's within the rules as long as someone isn't using it to look for a cabin mate.

I'm always looking for cruises to go on. Right now I have 3 bookings, 10/11 and 10/16 on the Destiny and 10/20 on the Miracle. There are some other solo cruisers on them and the prices are still good, at least when I checked last.
