  1. I was on my first cruise last month, a 4 day Long Beach, Catalina, Ensenada cruise on Carnival. I am 65, went solo and had a great time. There were mingles every night for singles, I would guess the demographic was pretty heavy to the under 50 crown with maybe 15% over 60 just by visuals.

I was basically on the ship to see if I liked the general experience, got sea sick or didn't enjoy it.

I met people and had fun. I think the shorter cruises probably tend to the younger set just because of price points.

I happened to choose this cruise as I traveled to near the port for a wedding so when I RSVP'd for the wedding I decided to take a short cruise.

I have already set up my next cruise to Alaska and am looking for more that are longer.

I went in middle of summer so lots of families. I think if you wanted to be in a larger "older" demographic cruising when school is in session would be better.

  2. I carry my meds in 7 day containers, I also carry pictures of the label with the pharmacy description receipt, i.e. med xxx, green, oval marked g400. I have 1 class A narcotic that I carry in the original bottle and its on my medic alert.

  3. This link gets you the pass for $20 ($10 plus $10 service fee) https://yourpassnow.com/ParkPass/park/senior/SeniorPassInfoCollect

the link can be found on the page https://store.usgs.gov/senior-pass

I ordered mine today as the nearest park I can buy one in is a 90 minute drive each way.

If you buy through the park service the price goes up if they ship after 8-28-2017

You can also purchase at these locations

  4. Along the lines of bring less, when I land travel, its have a credit card and buy what I forgot / need, that may not work on a cruise unless what you miss is in the store or on the shore.

I forgot extra cash on my cruise (had enough ) and on Catalina all the ATM's were out of order and I wasn't going to pay the 6% fee onboard for cash.

  5. Im travelling with a couple and was looking at MSC cruise line for a european cruise BUT there's no family rooms left and id have to get my own room now. Are there any cruise lines with similar itenaries to MSC europe but with more single travel friendly accomodation? ( Im not willing to share with a stranger). I really want my own bedroom at least.

The RCL honors the BOGO at 1/2 off sale for solo so you pay about 150%; you might ask the cruise line you are considering if they will match that offer.

  6. If you are flying your legs will swell from the flight, more the longer you are at high altitude.

If you are flying the day of or day before are your legs swollen when you arrive? I have an inflatable leg pillow I take with me.

Gravity also helps swelling based on water (raise your leg above your heart). I get skin rashes because my skin gets tight and socks and shoe chafe the skin. I use Neosporin

Eczema cream and have a steroid cream the DR prescribed.

  7. Geo Blue is a 12 month policy. Good for many trips within that period and, I might add, less cost than most single trip policies we have had in the past. But it is medical only.

Do these plans work if you have a Medicare supplemental plan (AARP UHC)?

  8. Hi everyone! I just got off a 4-night cruise aboard the Carnival Imagination to Ensenada, Mexico and Catalina Island. Before the cruise I noticed there wasn't too much information or reviews on the Imagination. Please check out my detailed review of our cruise on July 16 aboard the Imagination. I wrote about what I did in the two ports of call: Catalina Island and Ensenada. Link is below. Happy cruising! clear.png?emoji-grin-1677

Great review, I was on the same trip the 9th thru the 13th and you had different menus which is nice.

  9. I sailed on the Imagination two weeks ago and bought the "premium internet". Its one device at a time, it worked from my kindle fires (I brought two). I had to tell it to disconnect a device to use the next one.

You may want to check If you need a plan for both girls if they both want to be online at the same time. The internet speed at the premium level was not so fast for using Google search. Email and text was fine. I downloaded the Kindle books I wanted to read before I left. I have Verizon and when we arrived in Ensenada it was free on my plan.

  10. Ship - Carnival Imagination

    Deck - 11

    Stateroom # - V1

    Stateroom Category – Junior Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – There is a stairway just off the balcony leading to an observation deck, wasn't in the room much but you can here people during the day as they climb up to the deck. Also there is a stewards storage closet at the end of the hall so they go in and out there during the day. The good thing is nobody walks past your door.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Nice view but the observation deck is a little in the way when looking forward.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - My first cruise, balcony is normal for that ship but small from door to rail, maybe 3'+

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No soot this is starboard, front top of ship.

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Bed was hard, everything else was fine, a little aged but well maintained.

Any other comments? - Being at the front and top of the ship movement is exaggerated. I would get something a little farther back from the observation deck.

  11. I solo-ed at the on the 9th of the month on the Carnival Imagination. I have been thinking about cruising for a few years and was near a port (Long Beach) for a wedding so I decided to take a 4 day to decide if I even like cruising. I rented a suite with a balcony, it was pricey but I have been traveling alone for years. I enjoyed the experience, enjoyed cruising and had fun and relaxed. I booked this through Costco and received a $200 cash card when I returned.

I just booked a cruise to Alaska next year on Saturday on Royal Caribbean as they had the 150% solo supplement (buy 1 get 1 at 50 off) and I also received a senior discount.. I was really just doing research when I saw the 2 day offer and took advantage. When I tested it on Costco Travel they didn't have the BOGO offer, but latter they did so I booked direct with RC.
