  1. Such an emotional topic! I can see why people are disappointed. Lobster night has always been a thing, and some waiters really play it up with the extra tails. Maybe its success is part of the problem. It has become somewhat of a competitive eating challenge for some folks. But nothing is really free. The rest of the passengers have to subsidize the few who are having four+ tails. Having never personally consumed that many, I can't argue against charging for it, though charging after two would be my preference. They are tiny, two seems reasonable as a portion size. I can't imagine canceling a cruise over this issue but I understand the disappointment. Loving lobster night doesn't mean you are some gluttonous hog who deserves a trough in the back of the buffet. We all have things that are important to us.
  2. I haven't seen this return yet but it was a highlight for my daughter and I too. It probably helped that they were really good about refilling our wine glasses. I would book again if I saw it offered.
  3. It's absolutely false advertising and they absolutely do not care.
  4. I'd love some new itineraries but geography is limiting. I'd also love some mixed departure days of the week, like a Wednesday to Wednesday cruise (12 hour shift HCW could take this cruise without using vacation time). Which ship is probably at the bottom of my concerns.
  5. By nature that's a strong drink. It's a slow slipper and should mellow as the ice cube melts. I really enjoyed the drinks I had on VV. Quality over quantity. Lots of bad drinks out there on other cruise lines offering unlimited drinks packages.
  6. I am so very sorry for your loss. May your memories sustain and comfort you.
  7. This is definitely a problem and to accuse the OP of lying is ridiculous. I am polite to a fault. I never cut anyone off or act dismissive. I ate in the MDR twice out of eleven nights on my last sailing partly due to this over-solicitousness. The waiter asked us if our reason for not coming often was because we were disappointed with her service and what could she be doing differently. Ugh. I would never say back off, I know the head waiters are very demanding and everyone is working hard. This is a systemic problem. Other cruise lines are purposefully backing away from this vibe. I really enjoyed my dining experience on Virgin Voyages which felt much more like going to a regular restaurant with attentive service. We really don't need to be Sir and Madame. I don't want to feel like my waiter is going to lose their standing if I don't give a ten on a survey. Enough.
  8. Agree 100% with the original post. It's oversolicitous and tedious. I don't want to be insulting and I don't blame the workers at all, clearly that's in their training, but it's too much sometimes. Dinner should be a relaxing meal, not me having to make sure everyone is validated about their performance. Even if I wasn't happy about my meal I wouldn't say anything because I don't want to deal with the service recovery efforts from the section chief, head waiter, and maitre'd. One more reason I lean towards the Windjammer more and more.
  9. The refund and the free cruise is a great deal if you can be flexible with dates. Just moving to an inside cabin without compensation is not acceptable.
  10. I think you made a wise choice. We only have so many vacation dollars, plus the stress of flights possibly being cancelled etc. I think the passenger vibe is much more determined by region than by cruise line. The west coast tends to be a more relaxed crowd.
  11. I bring magnetic hooks and a camping clothesline. If I'm sitting out enjoying my balcony I hang the clothesline out there. Things dry much faster than in the shower. For a cruise longer than a week I will use the laundry service for underwear and tees. I try to choose quick dry fabrics and re-wear when possible.
  12. I see $56.99pp including tax and fees in my cruise planner for 14 night Jewel of the Seas to Greenland. That's as low as I've seen in quite a while. Still, over $1500 for two. I don't need it with the free diamond drinks but that could be a good buy for some folks. Definitely worth checking your cruise planner now.
  13. My husband would totally do this lol. Unless it's an unusual itinerary he would probably guess wrong about where we are going. Bermuda? Bahamas? Let's just say I do ALL the planning. I'm team no-paper. I've never had any trouble with the app and when covid tests and vax requirements were a thing I had those saved so they could be shown even if my phone weren't able to connect.
  14. Royal's lasagna is the worst I've ever tried anywhere. The texture is mushy, the flavors are just off, and that bechamel or whatever it is has no taste. It's like a layer of wallpaper paste on dog food. I think two tails would be fair, more than that go ahead and upcharge. We usually get the steak with it, hope that's still okay. More and more I'm just going to head to windjammer and have some soup and make a cheese plate to enjoy with some wine and just relax. I wish there were more casual dining options as other cruise lines have started to do.
  15. I'm not unsympathetic for what must have been a very expensive mistake. It's very unfortunate, even if this poster apparently didn't get, didn't pay attention to, or didn't comprehend the emails. I can believe they made phone calls and were given incorrect information. Unfortunately that's been my experience when I have called Royal. Contrast with calling Disney for example, where I have found the reps to be on point and very aware of suggestions specific to my needs. Higher ups at corporate are fine, but the call center workers are seriously lacking in understanding the product they are servicing. I would only expect that to get worse as finances tighten.
  16. Fortunately I've never encountered someone saying anything about me being masked. I've been in enough facebook groups to know how covid spreads onboard, plus whatever other viruses are making the rounds. Why should anyone else care if someone else chooses to minimize their risk of illness?
  17. Everyone should do what works for them at this point. I have taken six cruises since the restart. I got Covid on the one cruise I did not mask. I did not get Covid on the others. At this point in time, I will continue to mask, but I have no judgement against those who do not. I can only go with my own personal experience. I want to travel and experience life, but I don't want to get Covid again, or any of the other bugs that easily pass around on a cruise ship. Masking has proven to work FOR ME, and I'm going with that. This also includes not de-masking to eat or drink inside around others. I realize that's not going to work for most people but that's what I do. I love the sea, can't quit cruising.
  18. I've stayed in connecting balcony cabins on Anthem and it worked well. It's nice to be able to open the balcony. As others have shown, the door between is right inside the doorway. It doesn't have any effect on the room really.
  19. I'd really encourage anyone with mobility issues to consider buying rather than renting when it comes to scooters. There are a variety of price points and features and some types are highly portable now. It makes sense to buy if you are a frequent cruiser or aren't able to last long on day trips and would like to go places.
  20. If you swim in the northeast US in the summer you will find the Bahamas in the winter to be no problem at all. I've swam there many times in the winter and found it to be very comfortable.
  21. Sometimes waiters seem more reluctant, other times they are really pushing the extra lobster. On my last cruise we were asked if we really wanted to wait since the kitchen was having to prepare more. That was on a second tail. Food costs are tough all over now.
  22. I'm sure it happens a lot but some people stand out more than others. I've cruised more than once with the couple that wears super colorful matching outfits. Or maybe there's multiples of that couple lol.
  23. I personally handle this as a shift to universal precautions. I assume covid is onboard every ship and it's up to me to avoid catching it. How important that is will vary from individual to individual. You will still see some passengers and crew masking by personal choice. I bring test kits, fever reducer, cough medicine, pulse ox and thermometer along just in case. I would not report to medical unless my pulse ox was low. There is no longer any obligation to isolate onboard but it would be nice if people who know or suspect they are positive to wear masks so people may want to pack an N95 just in case.
  24. That cheese stuffed bread thing is my favorite thing at Samba lol. I would actually be happy there just doing the apps, beans and rice, and that bread. The gaucho neverending meat thing is a one and done experience for me, just too much. @clskinsfan I'm a fan of Radiance class, you might want to give that a try. There's really nothing to line up for lol. That works for some and not for others.
  25. Absolutely unacceptable. This isn't something like mechanical trouble or shows not running due to covid. This was a choice. I'd be pressing hard for compensation. Take pictures.
