  1. Berlin is a beautiful place, passing there could make your cruise adventure more exciting, so why not take the opportunity of visiting the place?

Viking has made it even easier by using a train to Berlin. We used buses before and it was a long ride .

  2. I will be on my first Viking Ocean cruise later this year, in a penthouse junior suite. Can I clarify, is it possible to ask for daily replenishment of beer and bottles of wine in the suite (included in cost) ? Is it possible to specify the type of wine, eg pinot gris or sauvignon blanc? I have purchased a wine package as well, now I am wondering if that was necessary! We do enjoy a cocktail and good quality wines and that was my motivation in the upgraded wine package.

We are on the WC and have the Silver (I hate the word Package) and there has been no issue with anything to do with wine or cocktails! I think there is a $ limit per drink but that’s it

  3. Wonderful touch of hospitality with the exchange of gifts from officials of Tonga.

What gift did the captain give to the local officials?

Loving all your posts and of course the pictures of this beautiful, exotic part of the world.

Great tonic while being snow bound by 10 inches of snow with the the lingering effects of a wicked cold.

Better than reading Mody Dick or Munity on the Bounty.

Thank you - just think I think we have many more days to explore!

  4. It is a great trip so far. Been ashore in the Kingdom of Tonga. Beautiful spot in the South Pacific. Was surprised by a Tongan giving me a Roll Tide when he saw my Alabama hat. [emoji41]

Spent the morning in Tonga, which was very interesting to say the least, only to come back to the welcoming of the Viking and the Sun to Tonga . We had all the local officials present including the PM of Tonga to exchange gifts. Very nice and the local dancers (in the pictures) helped making this an event no one will forget!

  5. I’m very curious too!seaside is currently the cheapest ship sailing from Florida over spring break/Easter week. It’s tempting as a new ship but This would be a deal breaker for me so someone please report. Pictures of deck 16 buffet at dinner would be extra splendid.:)

Why would you book a cruise during spring break other than you are as crazy as some of the kids on the same cruise. Maybe you enjoy craziness! Not me ! I think the kids should have a good time , I just don’t have to be there at the same time !

  6. Poor, poor Carol. The things she does for you. In order for her back to fully heal, you should cut back to pony kegs for a while. She can hold them up much easier....

  7. You're suggestion doesn't solve the issue for me :(. Most nights I avoid MDR's because I'm not interested in spending 2+ hours in a dining room. This is particularly important to me for my yearly solo trip (not so much when I sail with DH).

So even if I booked Fantastica , Aurua ,or YC, the elimination of the larger buffet on deck 8 does impact my decision whether or not to choose MSC for this year's solo trip. It appears the only buffet available for dinner on deck 16 has very limited choices. Based on one video, the dinner 'salad bar' on 16 is a joke.

Morphing Market place into a MDR in the evening effects many more passengers than just those booked bella.

First of all 16 decks are too many people and then to feed them is just too much ! That’s not cruising, that’s a cattle ship ! Sorry that’s the way I feel ! Thank You

  8. We all know that Carnival and other cruise lines have been cutting back on staffing along with various services and offerings that have been found on-board in the past. I won't list them all, but the term "Death by a thousand cuts" has been used frequently on this board.

    My question is why.........

The economy is good for the most part and improving.

And cruise line profitability is also fairly robust.

There's more ships than ever sailing, so it seems that competition would promote improvement in the cruise product, but instead it seems to be constantly diminishing in an effort to squeeze out every possible nickel.

There obviously was a time when this trend was the opposite, Companies looked for ways to offer a better experience or there won't be so much to could take away or cut back on these days.

    What changed?

The stockholders want a higher return in their investment and the buying public want more for less! Something has to Give !

  9. Eaches is right, it is a changing thing. Sales are reportedly going very well. One source says it is already half sold. No segments as is this year too due to it selling out. Yes, they have dropped the included medical. That is not really a great perk as DW has been down twice to the Dr. (ear infection, not catching) and the included is only the basic Dr. exam. Medicine is billed to your account. The good news is they charge rest of world prices for meds, not the crazy amounts charged in the US.

My wife had a small issue and the great medical staff took care of it and the total cost was 11.50 for a keg brace !

  10. Hi Jim, thank you for your posts- they are real treasure to us! :D

Sorry, I could not get what you you meant in the quote above. Did Viking drop medical service? I noticed that latest announcement of WC 2019 has different OBC compare to initial announcement- $1,000 per person now instead of $2,000 and additional $500 for members instead of $1,000. It is $3,000 short of promise and now no medical service?! Not that we need this but anyone could have one issue or another that might require doctors consultation. You also mention lump sum...but for what?

Thank you very much for your help!

Oh, and the huge thank you to Eaches for the beautiful pictures!

Are you looking at the OBC after January 1 , they did reduce the allowances after that date but may offer other perks on cabins that are not moving well. I would contact your travel agent to see the current promotion .

  11. Does anyone know if Viking will supply a bottle of wine in the penthouse jr suite? I don't drink hard liquor or beer although my hubby is happy. Or would they let me bring back a bottle from dinner?

They will supply a bottle of champagne and 3 or 4 mini bottles that will be replaced daily except for the champagne only once . You can’t take out a bottle out of any restaurant on the ship . If you want your brand of wine, you’ll have to bring it aboard and you can use it in your cabin or take it to dinner.

  12. Look hubby straight in the eye [emoji102]and say "duh!"

Then remind him to watch out for the darling little band of kids, many of who have bandaged fingers hiding the razor blades that slit your pants pockets.

Front or back, zippered or not: irrelevant!

Who is your tour operator?? Taking you into a place with kids with razors taped to their fingers . You don’t need to see that place that badly!

  13. Great pictures! Wasn’t that an awesome show! This cruise is living up to high expectations!

Great Show - next BIG SHOW IS GOING TO BE THE

SUPER BOWL AND VIKING IS GOING TO SHOW IT TO US - LIVE . How wonderful is that - somewhere around New Zealand , hopefully on a sea day , we’ll be watching the Super Bowl. How GREAT is that!

  14. It’s $199 for the all inclusive photo package and $250 for platinum studio (with $200 extra “free” dollars for $450 value total).

I know basically what the all inclusive package includes, but what does the platinum studio package entail? Has anyone done this?

I’m taking my mom on her bucket list trip and trying to decide if photo splurge is worth it.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

Why don’t you make up your own via Apple, Snap or others . It’s more personal and your mom will be in the pictures . Also, you will spend a lot less. ! Maybe enough to buy some jewelry!
