We will be porting in Ho Chi Minh City, not Hong Kong. Still, I'm sure the same applies, despite being about an hour outside of the city and having to shuttle into the city.
Thank you for the correction to Saigon. Yes, Saigon is friendly, safe and has delicious food.

Take advantage of the afternoon arrival in Hong Kong and go ashore. Enjoy! There’s lots to do. An extra overnight gives the opportunity for a delicious Hong Kong dinner.

See Page 2 “Viking Polaris to be repaired soon” for Dec 2023 Report on window reinforcement recommendations.
Somewhere else, I read Polaris would have work done in Spring 2024, but I don’t recall where I read it.
-
@CharTrav Do you know when Viking Polaris will be out of service for repairs, and when in April 2024 Polaris is expected to re-start cruises?

Beautiful. We shall watch the sail-in. Sunrise is 6:23 am.
How was your day in Juneau?
-
What time are you arriving in Vancouver?
I would love to see the Orion sail in.

@Murt22 Beautiful Hubbard Glacier photo.
Who is the Cruise Director, Captain, and Travel Consultant on the Orion right now?
Please advise. Have a great day tomorrow.

@CILCIANRQTS: Thank you very much for the detailed update on Skagway port. I appreciate you posting info. Enjoy the rest of the cruise!

Today we are in Skagway, a community of 400.
There will be 9,000 cruise ship passengers joining us.
And the locals are providing a shuttle bus to town for $5 round trip.
This may not be our best day of cruising on this trip…
Are you allowed to walk from the ship into town?

Yes, but will not be accurate when ship underway.
Thank you. I didn’t know that.
Where is the scale located?

Is there a scale in the fitness center or spa? My friend will need to check her weight daily.

NASA: Quebec Fires Deliver One of the Most Intense Outbreaks if Smoke in the Eastern U.S. in Decades
“Wildfire smoke from Canada has passed over the northeastern United States multiple times each summer in recent years, but it often goes unnoticed because it is relatively high in the atmosphere. That isn't the case in June 2023. In the first week of the month, large amounts of smoke from fires in Quebec poured south into the eastern U.S. and degraded the quality of surface-level air that tens of millions of people breathe.Winds typically move smoke from fires in Quebec toward the east and out to sea. But in June 2023, a persistent coastal low centered near Prince Edward Island instead steered smoke south into the United States. This image, from the GOES-16 weather satellite shows smoke sweeping into New York and Pennsylvania on the morning of June 7, 2023.”Several NASA satellites are collecting data throughout the event. The Terra, Aqua, and Aura satellites are observing how smoke particles affect how the atmosphere absorbs and reflects light, while the CALIPSO satellite collects observations of smoke height. Meanwhile, data from NASA’s ground-based Micro-Pulse Lidar Network and Aerosol Robotic Network indicate that a significant amount of smoke is present near the surface. -
Vela = “Sails” of the Ship.
”Vela is a constellation in the southern sky, which contains the Vela Supercluster. Its name is Latin for the sails of a ship, and it was originally part of a larger constellation, the ship Argo Navis, which was later divided into three parts, the others being Carina and Puppis” - Wikipedia

@Jim Avery and @Heidi13 and any others who have knowledge on this topic. I've never been seasick in my life, and have experienced the ocean when it was not calm. However I've also never been on the Pacific Ocean, which I think can be much rougher than anything I've experienced. I've heard that even people who have never been seasick might still get seasick at some point. As we will be on the 23/24 world cruise, do you recommend that I come prepared with some of those seasickness patches or something? Thanks for any recommendations!
BONINE CHEWABLE TABLET works best for me. No drowsiness like Dramamine. I get seasick very easily and I couldn’t cruise without it.

Do NOT wear anything RED while visiting Komodo Dragons. It attracts the dragons.

Similar experience we think. We are docked in Honolulu at the moment and I ran a speedtest, 7:00AM local time. Takes a good minute for the F and CC boards to load, and uploading pictures for the blog is interminable. But hey, that's just a minor thing, considering everything else we're doing. World Cruise!!
What app or website did you use for this speedtest?

They are all listed in the letter you should have received in your room. If you are not on this cruise then it is pretty much a moot point.
Got it.

Kauai has been cancelled because of lack of tour guides and bus drivers. The new list of excursions is for the extra day in Honolulu not Kauai. It is all spelled out in the letter you should have received.
What are the new list of excursions for Honolulu? I am so very sorry Kauai was cancelled.

Boarding in FLL, the pre cruise hotel was the Westin Beach Resort. Knowing what I now know, I’d have booked someplace on our own. I usually do for other cruises and have never in the past had an issue. In FL, we would have been cooling our heels in the terminal rather than the lobby of our hotel when the USCG dragged their feet on the inspection. I think it was after 3 before we wound up boarding.
How was the Westin Beach Resort location and room?

@Pappri Talk with the Financial Officer. Often the financial officer can resolve the issue.
