I too travel solo since my husband died 11 years ago. Only once on Crystal to see what the "loyalty" hype was all about. Waterside was claustrophobic, mostly because of the low ceilings; newer ships have higher ceilings in the MDR. I had booked a cruise canceled by Covid but had to upgrade to a penthouse on Crystal to have the same space as a standard veranda on other luxury lines. Did like the Promenade deck, though.

On Seabourn, I like receiving invitations to dine with staff; no obligation to attend, just to RSVP, but a wonderful way for solos to meet other passengers. Too bad you've missed the wonderful dinners with Handre. Ask any Seabourn regular; everyone remembers Handre.

I will be on Odyssey in April and then on Encore from Athens in September. Hope to see you there.

I have had very happy experiences on Crystal for my last 4 cruises and was set for another this fall.......but since that won't be happening now, I'm searching for a new cruise line.  Some of the things that really added to my relaxation on board are little things that can't be found on their website, so I'm asking here:  Are there any overhead announcements on SB (for an activity, or a leaving shore excursion)?   Is there a library on board?  Does the added-cost Retreat become any kind of a boasting/ego thing on board?  Are gratuities really not expected, or is that a corporate line not borne out in reality?  I leave extra gratuities in an envelope at the end of the cruise, but I dislike servers/crew who seem extra eager and ingratiating in hopes of extra tips.

I'm a 60 year old woman who travels solo, and prefers sea days over port days.  Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I will add that DW and I consider ourselves to be "equal opportunity cruisers" having cruised on 16 cruise lines over more then 40 years.   We all have the ability to exercise  free choice when we choose a cruise line, itinerary, trip, etc.  If one is unhappy with a cruise line they should certainly consider taking their business elsewhere (we have done so in the past).  "Voting with your dollars" is sometimes an effective tool at spurring policy changes.   It would take all my fingers and toes to count the number of cruisers we have met (while on ships) that constantly complain about the very cruise line upon which they cruise and in the next sentence tell us they are "loyal" to only that cruise line :).  When I suggest they look elsewhere they are generally shocked at the thought.  Go figure.

I agree there are many cruise lines to choose from. But I, and many others, have FCCs with Seabourn, and therefore I don't have a choice. So, I hope that by next spring when I am booked, there will either be a change in the global outlook of Covid, or Seabourn will clarify its vaccination requirement policy.

I think I am not going on anymore regent cruises, after reading all the remarks in this section ,I am convinced there are to many nutty people. If all you people will cancel I will reconsider  my decision. I only hope all the other cruisers are normal. Still love  regent but!

If you've been on Regent cruises, you know we are like the general population: some of the passengers will be more to your taste than others. Don't let this thread prevent you from cruising with Regent or any luxury line. We're nice people, really! It's just this pandemic is making us/me a bit testy these days - sorry. But also, don't expect all of us to cancel so that you reconsider your opinion to cruise with Regent. And no, I don't consider myself and other posters "nutty".

I truly hope that most people will take the vaccine.  I heard on the news this week that up to one third of people living in the U.S. do not want to get the vaccine.  In terms of our cruising community, it is likely that proof of the vaccination will be required to embark on the ship.

Is your opinion ("it is likely") based on your direct line to FDR? I get it. Your opinion is based on 34 Regent cruises. So? Modest you're not. I agree that masks are a good idea, but your (poor taste, IMHO) banner will hardly increase the number of wearers. Now you can block me too! 😀

I read the Costa protocol and it is fairly comprehensive.

I always wonder about pillows. To me they are the grossest collector of germs and other things like drool.

Will they pitch the pillows after each guest vacates the cabin?

How were they sanitized in pre covid?

In hospital the pillows used to have plastic covers in order that they be wiped down with disinfectant.

When I used to travel for work so frequently I brought an inflatable travel pillow with me rather than use the pillows on the bed.

The throw pillows on the sofas can be a problem too, I guess. Remind me never to nap on the sofa with one of those again!

It's not going to be the official inaugural.  I was booked on the April 1 inaugural and I was rebooked on the August 7.  When i called to rebook for the first voyage in October, assuming it was the inaugural, they told me the official inaugural with the special events will be sometime in 2021 and the first cruise in October is a "soft opening." They advised that I hold off until that date is announced later this year.  I was able to rebook Richard's Birthday Bash which was rescheduled to July 14, 2021.  It annoys me that the cruise in October is not going to be the "inaugural" since it doesn't make sense to me to have the 'inaugural' after the ship has been sailing for months.

Might their reluctance to consider the October sailing the inaugural, because it's iffy if that one will sail?

I posted this on Virgin's facebook page, I think I asked fair questions:

Virgin Voyages Based on Sir Richard's near bankruptcy, the refusal of the UK to bailout Virgin Atlantic; what guarantee is their that our money is safe, Virgin will actually sail their first voyage, and that your cruise line will make it to 2021? I am deeply concerned, due to your horrible contract provisions, which are an absolute disgrace for a Luxury Line! Again based on the sad state of the Virgin Group, how can we purchase a cruise with you, knowing that our funds are safe and that the product will be as described at booking? You cheapened suite benefits, removing both the comped liquor setup and limo transfers to the pier. I really want to like Virgin Voyages, but I am deeply concerned, as a Miami Beach resident. George

AND I received ALL my monies for the August cruise Virgin cancelled - within 2 weeks. I consider that extraordinary in these extraordinary times.

Was your "credit" (refund?) for deposit only, or had you paid in full? Seems deposit refunds process quicker.

Update: I have received ALL the monies paid to Silversea: 3 suites, 3 insurance, 1 air upgrade - all in less than 5 weeks of Silversea cancelling my July voyage. I am impressed with the speed of what was almost $50,000.

Good morning - I was notified this morning, that the credit for our April 2021 Moon voyage (Barcelona to Athens) was issued from American Express....It took exactly 5 weeks from the date we cancelled with our travel agent... Although a lot can happen from now til next April, we opted to take a back seat for a while, to see how this all unfolds.  We are still concerned about what restrictions would/could still be in place for travelers, and the resulting impact that may have for not only flexibility, but our overall enjoyment.  we definitely look forward to booking another cruise, once things settle down.
