  1. we were on Regal last Nov, and FB and FB messenger were free to use. We didn't buy any internet.

My DH's Galaxy S7 was just fine, loading FB fully, but my Galaxy S4 didn't load any FB pictures, so I got text only. FB messenger worked fine on both phones.

P.S. We chose to cruise without an infant (left DS with grandparents twice), but once DS turned 3 and was potty trained, he started cruising with us.

  2. I know my daughter's OB and my own physician told us to make sure we got an updated Tdap (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis) vaccine before our first grandchild was born. See this from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/downloads/matte-grandparents.pdf.

    kudos to your physician!

I had everyone in my family get Tdap shot before DS was born (my DH, my parents, his parents). Everybody was happy to do it.

All of us get our flu shots in October as well. We sail in November. :)

  3. I do get that prices rise and fall just I have not experienced a $750 price jump per person in one day.

that's exactly what happened to our Thanksgiving cruise. Just 2 days ago prices were $499 pp for the cheapest inside cabin. Today they are $1,019 per person!!!!! That's $600 pp increase for an INSIDE!!!

I am so glad I booked our cruise at the beginning of Sep, and my mom's cruise last week.

  4. I sure hope my mom gets upgraded. I don't understand the reasoning behind assigning her (a single cruiser) an inside cabin for 4 people.... while this type of cabins is sold out.

NCL could be making 2x more for this cabin RIGHT NOW.

Maybe, NCL figures, they could take her $50 bid offering for OV, and only then resell her cabin for twice as much. But if they don't do it right now, they may only have $50 in hand and lost revenue from 4 customers because NCL waited too long?

  5. ETA: I am glad we had this chat, because I went ahead and reduced the balcony offer, but also found a new offer for a mini-suite. Until now the second offer was still for an OV bid, even though we were already in an OV cabin. So, I got a new bid in for a mini-suite, however, not much hope there, because the MS cabins for 3 people are totally sold out at this time.

  6. Another thing with deck 8 forward balconies on Jade is they are hull balconies with metal frames and do not feel as open as Plexiglas balconies. I personally don't mind them but some people don't like hull balconies.

thanks! Wouldn't bother me. We've only had a balcony once - on our last cruise. It was a partially obstructed balcony, but we LOVED it anyway.

I am only worried about noise and people smoking on balconies.

  7. I personally would bid and bring ear plugs or even a sound machine just in case you were to get a noisy cabin. Only you would know if spending more $$ to upgrade would be worth it.

I have slept with the ear plugs even at home for the last 10+ years, so it's not a problem for me. But they don't drown out ALL the noises. I can still hear quite a bit through them.... and no, I don't have acute hearing. Just the opposite. DH will most likely find ear plugs uncomfortable, and the poor guy is an insomniac...

I am going to reduce my bid to $50 pp from the $100 pp I currently have. That way if we get upgraded to a noisy cabin, at least I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. If more balconies were available on different decks, I would have taken my chances with a higher bid.

    Thanks!

  8. It's a definite risk when bidding on upgrades, since you don;t get to choose your cabin location. Take the time to examine the deck plans.

So, definitely weight the pros and cons, the risks versus rewards, and bid accordingly.

I am weighing all the pros and cons, that's why I am asking the more knowledgeable people. :) I have studied the deck plans as well.

It appears that all that's left for 3 people is balconies on deck 8 forward. Not very desirable, even though I usually think that a balcony is always better than inside. I am not so sure I'd want a balcony on deck 8 forward, because of numerous noise reports. On one hand, I'd love a balcony, on the other hand - if we can't sleep at night because of the mechanical noise, then I don't want a balcony.

We were in the inside guarantee on deck 11 right under the buffet and got upgraded (free) to OV on deck 5. My poor mom just got assigned 8003, most forward inside.

  9. I have looked up the balconies left on our Thanksgiving cruise, and I am a bit concerned. All that's left is GTY balconies, Deck 8 (Jade), forward. It's right above the Theater, some kind of machinery, and the anchors, and a lot of people report mechanical noise all through the night. Keeps them up all night. All of a sudden, I am not sure I want to upgrade to a balcony AND pay for it as well.

    What do y'all think?

This is our first time on Norwegian and Jade, so I don't know much about the ships. All I know is from research, but there isn't much about the cabins... Currently, I am on deck 5, OV, aft, right under Alizar dining room.

  10. Time to get rid of plastic bags as well.....:):):):):):)

easy for you to say. It's very inconvenient to pick up dog poop with a paper bag.

P.S. My child prefers to drink through a straw. Yes, he can drink without it, but he likes straws.

  11. my experience with a TA is that with the Princess cruises in particular the prices were higher through a TA and there was no OBC at all, than when purchasing directly on the website. I thought once was a fluke, but it happened again and again, so now I purchase directly with Princess.

That same TA offered a small discount and/or a $25 OBC for other cruise lines. But I still purchased directly through the other cruise lines' websites. Gives me a peace of mind.

  12. I'm not sure how he can have a US birth certificate but at a minimum I would think he would need the certificate of citizenship and his photo ID. The naturalization certificate needs to be the original. He might also need an authorization letter from his parents. As a side note the naturalization certificate costs $550 to replace. When I found that out I looked into getting a passport card for DW but we ended up getting Enhanced Drivers Licenses (one less document to carry). I wouldn't think that the adoption paperwork is needed and would suggest that you call Carnival about that.

Just an FYI: naturalization certificate and certificate of citizenship are two different things. The internationally adopted child didn't naturalize, so he doesn't have a naturalization certificate. He became a US citizen through his adoptive US citizen parents - hence, he has a certificate of citizenship.

This young person is already a US citizen. The adoption paperwork is not needed.

  13. I have a family cruise (different ship and itinerary) and my nephew (teenager) would love something like a stingray excursion. I'll keep and eye out for something like that, thanks.

it truly was a lot of fun and you get to feed them as well. We did a combination of Stingray city and snorkeling. We had never snorkeled before then and did just fine.
