  1. Sorry. You can only swap full bar setups for coffee cards.

I am aware of that but you can swap contents of your bar. We would just want gin and tonics. We have done this before with no problem by phoning room service. I was asking about the cost of coffee cards on board [emoji848]

  2. I took the best of st Petersburg 2 day tour thru the ship. Be aware that Russian immigration is a lengthy process and ships tours are given first priority for immigration. Guests not on a tour had to go to the concerto dining room when ready to go and get a ticket for immigration. It is the same as tendering

Thats what I was worried about so we are doing an afternoon excursion on the first day with the ship and a full day excursion on the second day, both with Princess [emoji3]

  3. I am not sure why Hooked-Cruiser cannot not name the company they did the private tour with. I see the names of guides here all the time and I know of no rules against it.

We are booked with Alla Tours for our visit in July. Charge is about 1/2 of Princess and a much smaller group. Payment on the first day of the tour.

They provide the visa waiver, se no need to get a visa,

Just booked one day Palaces tour for the second day with the ship. It was more expensive (but not double that I could assess) but includes a sut down lunch with folkloric dancers, rather than a packed lunch and I think not so much walking? Have also booked the Canals and Rivers tour with the ship for the first day. Was a bit worried going with Alla in St Petersburg in case there was a hold up getting off the ship. I am happy with what we paid.

We have booked Alla for Berlin as it worked out least expensive and goes by coach rather than train

  4. See that coffee cards are $35.65 if purchased pre-cruise. Are they more expensive on the ship? Thinking of keeping our bar setup and swopping out for just gin and tonics and buying coffee cards. We usually swop bar set up for two coffee cards.

  5. Drink all you want, where you want, in total freedom and with a light heart! Unlimited spirits (Premium brands are excluded), liqueurs, aperitifs, wide selection of cocktails, wines by the glass (our selection of white, red and rosé wine), beer, sodas, fruit juices, mineral water, espresso, cappuccino and other classic hot drinks, and takeaway ice cream in a cone or cup.

What is this ICE CREAM IN A CONE OR CUP it speaks of? Im really trying to justify the $200 drink package ;p

It is gelato - they have lots of flavours and it is delicious [emoji3]

  6. Thanks everyone.

I think I will take 3 bottles of wine between the two of us and hope they are not so mean spirited as to confiscate 1 bottle for 250ml over the limit.

They were doing a lot of confiscation on our recent Azura cruise. Had tables set up at security at each port stop ☹️

  7. I read a suggestion of this in another thread. We are flying out to Barbados and intend buying some alcohol at the duty free and perhaps at the ports. Is this going to be permitted to bring on board or have the rules changed?

You now need to buy on plane or in duty free before you fly. Just one up to one litre bottle of alcohol (no wine boxes either) per person can be taken on at 'first' embarkation so you cannot get off ship in Barbados and buy it and you cannot buy at any port stops. If you do it will be held until Southampton.

  8. We matched our Princess Elite points (a lot of which we earned with P&O) and got status matched to Black. We have booked Preziosa for April 2019, 21 days Barbados to Southampton with free drinks and internet. Sailed Poesia last January for our first and only MSC cruise so far and it was fine - few niggles about dining room food but we certainly did not starve and looking forward to sailing with them again.

  9. If you think about it, on an eastbound crossing of the Atlantic, the starboard side will always be in the sun, clouds allowing. Port side will always be in the shade. Another good reason to always select the cabin you want.

Thats why I had my fingers crossed after booking a guarantee balcony on Azura next month. We were allocated a starboard balcony cabin. Now we just need good weather for the crossing [emoji3]

  10. any one been caught or understands the rule properley?

i;m on azura on 9th march i now unerstand i can't take any alchol from duty free what i want for my room is a bottle of malibu for drinking in the room can i buy 1 bottle and take this on to the ship as i'm not sure from what i've read.

every message i have read talks of wine and not spirits

Buy it in the airport before your flight or on plane if they sell it. Once you get to Barbados you will embark the ship direct from the coach so there will be no chance to buy it in the terminal. If you buy it later in the terminal it will probably be confiscated until you get back to Southampton.

  11. I'm just trying to avoid lugging cases especially for my mum on and off transport. I'm not bringing Rob who is normally in charge of luggage :o

You can take a trolley on the shuttle. We are parking and flying from South but staying in a hotel in North - we always take the trolley on the shuttle.

  12. We are sailing on Britannia on 16th March out of Barbados. Five ports in total and the rest sea days. The ship actually sails on 17th but we board on the 16th so we can explore the island before we sail on Saturday morning.

We are on Azura the week before you (9th/10th March). Have done several transatlantic repositioning cruises both ways - love them. Have you got a starboard cabin as apparently that is the side which gets the sun sailing back to Southampton [emoji846]

  13. Not when I was on it! The indoor pools are adult only on most ships in any event.

Checked the deck plans and it does indeed have a conservatory pool (obviously sailed on too many Princess ships and got confused), but I think those pools are adult only - could be wrong about that as well though [emoji51]

  14. I didn't think that a Transatlantic would be everyone's cup of tea.

They are very popular as they get heavily discounted the nearer you get to sailing date. Which ship and date? MD might be able to change your dining allocation.

  15. We fly to Barbados on 9 March with TC to join Azura. We booked our seats at £25 per person. When we flew to Barbados last year with BA we did not book our seats in advance and were unable to check in on line. Luckily we were seated together but lots of couples were split up and there was a lot of upset people on the flights. Not sure if you can book in online for TC flights so paying the £50 was a way of making sure we are sitting together.

  16. We have a long cruise coming up and I would love to be able to make a decent cup of coffee. I know some people have said they take a Cafetiere with them. What do they do with the coffee grounds? They can't be rinsed down the sink or the toilet as they would cause a blockage. In order to rinse out the cafetiere I assume the liquid has to be poured through some sort of filter, like a coffee filter bag in order to trap the used grounds so they can be put in the bin and the cafetiere rinsed out. I may be being rather stupid here but what do people do? I know some people take the Rombouts individual filters that sit on top of a cup and water is poured through but I don't like them much so I would like to take my own coffee. Last time I asked about coffee someone said drink tea - well I'd like to be able to make a decent cup of coffee in my cabin so I don't have to pay for a cup in Costa which is the only place on Aurora that I can get a half way decent cup of coffee. I'd love to hear what someone else has done.

Nappy bags - you can put them in the bathroom waste bin and they are scented.

  17. That very well could be and hopefully should be the practice. We always attend before dinner so I just wait till we reach the DR or buffet before eating.

Other than a couple of drinks made to order I've never found much to get excited about except to hear how many of each category are sailing on our cruise and the number of days the 2nd & 3rd place people have.

We never go to the parties now. All that queueing to get in and trying to find a seat - we just go and have a quiet drink in a bar [emoji3]

  18. I think very few people actually ate them.... I stopped eating them after I saw a person pour some into one hand to pick out only what they wanted & pour the rest back in the jar.

I'm not a germaphobe but that was just nasty.

The 'jar' is for your personal use. Any nuts/crackers left in those jars are (or should be) discarded and never served to anyone else. If a jar is left on a table, we ask the bar staff to remove it and bring us a fresh one.

  19. To corporate, with a picture. That kind of violation on a cruise calling in the US could get the Captain fired.

As I said have seen it happening on various cruiselines and the pool staff are obviously aware but do nothing.
