  1. Not sure I understand your question. The cabanas are on the beach and the distance from the cabanas to the water is probably not more than 50 ft. or so.

You got it - I wanted to know if the cabanas were situated far back and steps from the entrance to the beach or on the sand and steps from the entrance to the water. In Labadee a lot of cabanas were back in the trees across a little road to get to the beach so I was wondering if that was the same. 50ft is great. Thanks

  2. Hi! So i had a water entrance cabana on labadee. It was amazing, we climbed a ladder right into the water. Thats what i really want, something private and relaxing where we have water access and an attendant to bring us drinks. Ive heard on cococay cabanas are great but no water access and bungalows are nice with water access. Do we get pre chosen (choose day before) lunch delivered with both? Trying to take advantage of black friday sale! Thanks!

  3. So I think there are a few things at play.

Main dining room use to be really formal. Tuxedo formal. So there are some lamenting change.

According to the written policy, they would not be allowed. The cruise line does not enforce those policies, but still there are people who will hold them up as a commandment.

Finally there is a HUGE misunderstanding of fine dining today. I agree with you that the dining room is not fine dining, but even if it were, so what. There are any number of fine dining restaurants that have modern dress codes. We had dinner last week at a steak and seafood place. 6 of us all in jeans. I had a t-shirt and sweater with jeans. The entrees were $50+ per person, and in true fine dining fashion everything was a la carte. Yes there were white linen tablecloths and napkins.

Times have changed. Some people are just having a hard time with it.

Thanks! This makes the sense..... :D

  4. A naked man wrapped in clear plastic walks into a psychiatrist's office. The physiciatrist takes one look at him and remarks "Clearly, I can see you're nuts."

    Hahahaha :D

So I am a fan of distressed jeans. I find only Express jeans fit me well so I'm paying about $90 for those 'torn, goodwill jeans' lol. My husband doesn't get it either but hey, I like trendy fashions and can afford it so why not? I don't know that I would wear them on a cruise dinner but only because I like dressing up on vacay. But to people saying 'but, but there is a tablecloth! And it's white!' listen, where I live and I'm sure where many live every single restaurant that isn't a chain has a tablecloth and cloth napkins. And they want you to look trendy and cool while dining there so other people want to spend their $$ there to look cool and trendy lol. I mean, my local Chinese food place has tablecloths and napkins - I'm totally flummoxed as to why people equate that with fancy. I guess if you live in an area that has mostly fast food or Appleby's type of places anything with a tablecloth seems formal? Not being snarky, really curious.

  5. OP your title was definitely eye-catching! 😂😂

11:00 a.m. Flight is doable, but has major risks involved. Opt for later if at all possible.

Many shuttles at Port of Miami to get you to FLL as mentioned above.

With that being said on our last cruise we were sitting at FLL at 9:20 a.m. Did self debarkation, caught shuttle and off we went. But still wouldn't chance it.

Haha sounds like I'm a jet setter with my own helicopter!

  6. luckyprincess, believe it or not, the hippest area of Miami and Miami Beach is no longer South Beach but Wynwood and Brickell! Yes, it was pretty sketchy ten years ago but as Keith said, it is now completely different.

That said, even though I live in Fort Lauderdale, we overnight in South Beach all the time. I don't blame you for wanting to hang out there. If you haven't been back in the while, don't miss Yardbird.

Great to hear! Thanks! I'm going to plan a long weekend in Brickell I think. What is Yardbird?? I want her to see all the great Miami Beach stuff! I love SoBe but lived in Bal Harbour so we are going for 2 days before the cruise so I can show her around.

These days I think you are more likely to be harassed or robbed in Miami Beach than in Downtown Miami or Brickell. The city has made a drastic change. Obviously Miami is a much larger city in population and land size than Miami Beach, so it has its bad areas, but not an area you would want to be in anyway.

Miami Beach is great though and certainly a place I recommend people stay at anyway.

Thanks! Good to know the city has made a positive change! I was not ready for it when I got there. I moved from Brooklyn and thought I was but nope! lol!

The People Mover, also known as MetroMover or just Mover takes you all around Downtown Miami and Brickell. Its free and pretty simple to use. You can check out a map here: https://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/metromover-map.pdf

Anywhere in Downtown Miami or Brickell is very very safe during the day time. Yes, there is a homeless issue in the Downtown area, but the vast majority of them are not committing property or violent crimes. They are trying to get money and food. At night, the Downtown area is a little bit emptier and I can see why people get nervous, but even then, its still a safe area to be in. And the area you are staying at towards Bayside is fine, no issues at all. Brickell is safe/comfortble regardless of the time of day.

To go to and from Bayside I see no reason to get a taxi/uber unless you don't want to the do the relatively short walk. Its safe to do that walk at night as well. Biscayne Blvd is a busy street 24/7.

  7. My final payment is due the 27th. I will wait until Black Friday and then pay up.

Lol we are doing the same!! We only have $400 left but want to make sure to leave room for changes so no final payments from us!

Thanks everyone! I'll be watching. I didn't see an answer to this - does anyone think people may cancel on the final payment day or the day before? I was going to watch the cabins like a hawk (scored a hump last year unexpectedly on a random day) to see if I can get better.

  8. Hi all! So my final payment isnt due til November 29th. I have some things i need to buy: deluxe alcohol packages, cabana, excursions, chops dinner, voom. Im waiting for sales. Any insights for this year?? Also can anyone tell me if i find a deal with obc and call to snag it does it have to be before or after final payment? Cant recall if it makes a difference. Oh and im hoping to look on our final payment date for better cabins! I was thinking people may release that day so they dont have to pay penalties. Any advice on if thats the case or im a dreamer?? thanks!

  9. The precise distance will vary based on where you stay and also time/day of week you make the drive to the port.

I would say around 20 minutes.

Miami has changed a great deal just in the last 10 to 15 years as has Miami Beach, but downtown Miami is considerably nicer then it used to be.

    Keith

Thanks Keith! 20 minutes is doable I think. I lived there in 2007 and after being mugged twice, once at gunpoint and harassed often on the street I just stayed away. Miami Beach has its own host of issues I know. But I think I feel more comfortable because I know my way around you know? Plus she's a shopaholic and would love Lincoln Road Mall lol! Thanks for your input :) I love the people of Miami regardless and hope it continues on an upswing!

  10. Hi! I used to live in Miami Beach and know my way around quite well. I have always very much disliked the city of Miami when I lived there and don't really wish to stay there on the day before we cruise. My cruise partner is new to cruising and Miami so I thought I could show her around South Beach and stay in Miami Beach. Is that close to the port? I've never left from that port so not sure exactly where it is. Thanks!!
