  1. Agree - it doesn't make the best espresso - it's much better in the Coffee Connection!

P.S. It is interesting where people's minds went when we talked about ice balls in drinks. They also work in soft drinks:D. For the holidays they can be made in festive colors -- kids would probably love to have them in their drink.

Soft drinks? Do they have a special kind of liquor in them. Ha. But agree kids would probably think they were special.

  2. I'm fairly sure that the Illy machine in the suites (on all ships) is an espresso maker and they do have decaffeinated pods. Note: I know that there are decaffeinated pods but am only 90% sure that it is an espresso maker rather than a coffee maker. It is possible I suppose to figure out how to make coffee with the machine.

Think just makes expresso. At least the one in our suite only did this.

  3. We asked for them once. We said we'd be willing to stuff them so they brought our table olives and blue cheese. Part of our fun was putting them together!

Google queen creek olive mill in Arizona. It is a local business that make fantastic stuffed olives. They ship. Oh, their olive oil is wonderful.

  4. I used to have a suitcase of a particularly grotesque shade of lime green. I was sure that no one else could have one like it. I saw it come out of the hold and patiently waited for it to come to my side of the carousel when a nun grabbed it and headed for the exit. Here I was' date=' ready to tackle a nun, when I got close enough to see that the suitcase she was wheeling was waaaaay too clean to be mine. Yes, my grubby lime green bag turned up a few minutes later. Saved from an ugly confrontation with a nun by a history of abusive baggage handling![/quote']

    That is funny!

  5. Glühwein. I love that stuff, I still have my little mugs, too. The Christmas markets are something special - at least they used to be - don't see that they'd have changed too much over the last 30 years or so. I really want to take my wife over to hit them but December is a crazy month for her at work so we can't get out of the office from mid-November through about mid-January. :(

    Someday soon...

PS - you can find mulling spices online that make Glühwein that is very, very close to what you get in Germany. I've made a few batches of it over the years, as well as Rumtopf and Bowle...I'm starting to see a trend here. :D

Thanks for spelling correction. We too have our mugs. The last time we did this cruise it snowed as we went to a church to hear a choir sing. Fabulous!

  6. I should have time to post from the ship since there are multiple sea days....will keep you posted! In December, we’re cruising on a Viking “longship” from Basel to Amsterdam, with a few days pre-cruise in Lucerne. We’ve never river cruised either, so it should be fun! And all those beautiful towns with their Christmas markets will be a blast to visit.

  7. I completely understand! Each of my batteries cost about $350. Each battery gives me 2-3 hours. So for an international flight, airlines require I carry 1 1/2 times for the flight. I carry about 6 batteries. That's in addition to my charger. I also use an electric powered scooter. That's another battery and charger. But, it's a small amount compared to what a Regent cruise costs. We travel all over the world this way. Both by land, sea and air. If that's what it takes, I spend it and enjoy life.

    Enjoy your cruise!

I agree! Life is to short. Go for it!

  8. Yes - they have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on the menu. If Thanksgiving is a sea day, they also do a parade that ends with Santa Claus coming down the stairs (or going up the stairs). It is a funny parade that makes a lot of people smile. Pretty sure that the parade it is done on all of the ships but don't remember much about it last Thanksgiving when we were on Explorer -- just remember the dinner. This year we'll be on the Mariner on Thanksgiving -- really looking forward to it.

Thank you. Looking forward to Santa!
