  1. Hi friends! Thank you Jacqui @kazu for keeping us afloat while Rich has some well-deserved R&R! Yesterday my DS decided that we needed to see more Christmas lights, so as soon as it turned dark, off we went. It seemed like there were many more than in past years, and some were really over the top! I'd hate to see their electric bill!! I got an early Christmas present this morning -- no morning services at church! Can't remember the last time that happened. Of course, there will be 5 later in the day & the choir will sing at 4 of them. When I get home just before midnight I plan to have a nice "seasonally adjusted" glass of eggnog! Tomorrow we'll have dinner at my DSIL's & I offered to bring sides, so I'll be up early making those --creamed onions, sweet potato souffle (from Honey Baked Ham -- can't beat it!), and the traditional green bean casserole. It will be fun to have the family together. So Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating. And a huge Thank You to everyone that keeps the Daily such a welcoming and caring spot! Edi
  2. Friday was graduation day with the heart surgeon! I'm happy that I won't have to make that trip to the hospital in Baltimore anymore. On Monday I saw my cardiologist and he called me a "model patient" and eliminated three of my meds! Woohoo! I've been paying an $85 monthly co-pay for the Eliquis, and I won't miss that one bit! My mother always insisted that we have lentils on New Year's Eve to bring good luck for the next year, but I've never been a fan. Sorry, Mom.....
  3. Hi friends! Today was an outstanding day. I went for my post-op exam & the PA was very happy with my progress. Now I'm allowed to drive AND drink wine!! Woohoo! On the way home, the tire monitor came on for my back passenger side tire. Second time in 2 weeks. So I called the locally owned tire shop in town & they said to bring it right up. Half-hour later I had the car back, nail removed, tire patched, air added AND the front floor mats cleaned. All for free. They said, "That's just what we do." I told DS he's going there when he needs new tires! All-in-all, a VERY good day!
  4. Hi friends! In honor of our veterans, DS & I went for lunch to a local (I think) chain called Mission BBQ. It is owned by veterans, and helps support veterans' programs. At noon every day, they stop everything & ask people to rise as they play the National Anthem. I was surprised afterwards when a server stopped by and complimented me for singing along -- apparently few people do! Members of the local VFW were there passing out poppies, instead of forget-me-nots.
  5. Hi Friends! Well, my week included an unexpected detour back to the hospital. My heart rate was elevated, so they put me on an IV to bring it down. If it didn't work, the next step was to shock the heart. Luckily, I ended up "self-regulating" at 3am on Wednesday, so that wasn't necessary. Happy to be home again, and this time I plan to stay put!! Don't forget to set your clocks back tonight! Edi
  6. Good morning, friends! I'm happy to be able to check in today! The valve replacement and WAZE surgery went went well last week &I was released last Monday to come home. Now I have to be patient, rest and let my body heal -- not easy for me! I always have lots that I think I need to do! My son is making a herotic effort to keep me reined in.! It appears that the AFib is gone, which makes me very happy! Members of my church have brought food by, and neighbors send flowers. My fuzzy freeloaders are happy to have me back & curl up with me. It's all good! Thank you all for the prayers - they worked!
  7. My retired minister used to say that God only created a few perfect heads and the rest he covered with hair! A busy day today cleaning house in preparation for my hospital visit. I go to the hospital for pre-op procedures on Monday & will stay the night to prep for the 7am open heart surgery on Tuesday. My DSis will arrive on Tuesday afternoon to stay at a hotel nearby until I go home. I'm told I'll be in ICU for a day or so, then move down to the step-down unit. We'll see! I want the house to be relatively clean if Sis comes home with us! Tomorrow is a special women's day at our church, but most of the women who would participate are all sick from a recent pastor-led (!!) trip to England & Scotland.Guess who's doing the whole thing?!! I'm actually glad I decided not to go on that trip! Prayers raised for all on the list, and cheers for all celebrating! Edi
  8. Jim is back??? Be still, my heart! He is terrific! But yes, his replacement has been very good, too.
  9. Just got an update from someone onboard. The Captain has said that departure will be at 7pm. A crewmember was taken off in an ambulance to get a CT scan.
  10. Thanks Leanne! I hope the sailaway is close to the scheduled time!
  11. Thank you for taking us along on your adventure, @kazu Jacqui! The pictures are wonderful!
  12. Rabbit, rabbit, White Rabbit! Happy October, friends! I've had my coffee, now I'm off to church. Catch up with everyone later. Edi
  13. Same thing happened on the Zuiderdam for the Voyage of the Vikings, at least for the return trip.
  14. Greetings from soggy Maryland! It sounds like we might be having a respite from the heavy rain right now, but I think there's more to come. A friend invited me to come to her house to play bridge later, but I just don't want to drive in all this! @cruising sister I was sorry to see the result's of Baby Murphy's CT scan - such a tragedy for her family. @kazu I, too, wonder if you can getting a cutting from the hydrangea and save the memory? Since I have the proverbial "black thumb", I have no idea if that's possible. I spent the afternoon looking for a hotel in Ocean City, MD for the Columbus Day weekend. DS has been wanting to go and since he'll be my primary caregiver after my surgery, I figure a little advance reward wouldn't be unreasonable. Who knew that hotels would be sold out that weekend? DUH,I forgot that it's a 3-day weekend for many! I finally snagged one, actually on the boardwalk. Phew! Also arranged for the cat sitter for that weekend and also for my hospital stay. I feel like I accomplished something on this rainy day!
