  1. Today I logged on just for grins after several weeks of not having done so. I noticed my CC tier was changed from Elite to Elite+ and our points total went from 350ish to 1100. Since we haven't cruised lately (nor has anyone else) I was wondering why we should be so lucky as to be upgraded. It was confirmed by Celebrity that our status is, indeed, correct. Comments? Before you ask, Celebrity offered no explanation as to why this changed.

  2. I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered.....I couldn't find it with this new cruise critic search function. Anyway, did Celebrity change the way we used to be able to check for deals? While doing a "mock" booking, after selecting the number of cabins, the next screen used to say something like, "check for offers." Now this same screen says "bonus for Classic members and above." How does one check for military and state fares with this new program? Maybe they are trying to do away with so many discounts, etc? Thoughts? As always, thanks in advance....

My physician won't sign because the local medical association thinks it would be unethical for him to sign.  He also won't sign for legal reasons and I don't blame him.

The cruise lines are not being helpful.  Some even fail to mention on their website that medical letters are required for those 70 and older.  This seems irresponsible given that those cruise lines belong to CLIA which first proposed that these letters be mandatory.

The fix to this is easy......just go to your lawyer (everyone has one, right?) and ask HIM (her) for a letter saying that you will not under any circumstances sue the above mentioned doctor should you die while on the cruise! Perfect solution,  well at least it would make sense to the absolute IDIOTS who decided age discrimination in this day and age is ok.

These kind of benefits are not recognised creditors in the bankruptcy of a company so would have no value and would disappear.  Even if they were a recognised creditor any value would be wiped out by secured loan holders. In the present climate a cruise ship has little value. My view is that most potential customers for cruising will not consider a cruise holiday for at least 2 years and not all if there is even a hint of a virus anywhere in the world.

This is all gloom and doom and NOT backed up with any kind of hard facts.

I don’t believe MSC would declare ‘Forced Majeure’ as that would be a risk to any reputation they still have and would be madness with so many ships entering services in the next few years especially in the US.  Whilst in the U.K. customer protection would be against them for sure.  I would be confident if MSC cancel your cruise you will get a full refund not a FCC, the business risks are to high for them to do otherwise.

Why not? What does force majeure have to do with their reputation? It means forces beyond their control, has nothing to do with their reputation. US airlines have used this in the past and other than still being airlines, their reputation hasn't suffered.

Yes, the rules still stand.  You will need to give them your card when you want a free drink.  The drinks are unlimited and indicated on your account.  Unless your cabin mates has a Drink Package, they  will be charged for their drinks.  The good news is that your free drinks are available in most bars on board.  The details will be included on a flyer in your cabin.

If you have any issues, just talk to the Captain Club hostess.

    I don't believe that's true.

Celebrity are clearly trying to move those in the US away from refundable deposits and in line with most of the rest of the world. It can’t be easy when some individuals book multiple staterooms on multiple cruises knowing they are going to cancel some of them. It blocks rooms for others giving less choice and effects pricing. I think if everyone played fair and just booked the one cabin and only cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances  it would be fine but just by reading this forum that’s not always happening.

I almost always book 2 cabins (side by side) when cruises are first announced. In 20 years, we have only canceled both cabins once, due to the death of 1 of our children. Most of the time, say 75%, friends have said they'd like to go and we set them up in the second cabin. Not doing that now. In that time frame, Celebrity has canceled 2 of our cruises and left us with little recourse in booking a new voyage. The whole Celebrity thing is getting tiresome. It's a nice cruise (we've been on better) but getting more expensive and difficult to deal with.

  8. I retired form the airlines after 29+ years as a crewmember. IF you fly in on the day of cruise departure, it's only a matter of time before you get burned. Weather, strikes, maintenance, computer gliches, medical issues, security issues, inflight diversions, baggage issues, catering issues, fuel issues, missed connections (crew/airplane/you), etc, etc, etc ad naseum. I've been delayed and canceled by all of them and more than I can remember.

Ooh. Very glad I decided about a month ago to jump ship to Disney for that week. Not only am I not having to figure something out now which likely would have been to Disney, I got on the Magic a few days before they announced Marvel Day at Sea for that week, which caused the prices to bump up if not already booked.

    Ooh, double good for you!

  10. Sorry in advance if this has been covered previously, but I found no reference using the new CC Search function.....Does anyone know anything about Celebrity starting a new "Sunset" suite on its M class ships. I'm seeing their availability as sold out when I do a cabin search. As these cabins may be added/converted during upcoming dry dock work, that could explain why they don't show up as available. Anyone hear anything about this? Thanks, g3

  11. Seems that the Summit has been chartered for the 13 Feb 2021 cruise. LGBT cruise company is taking over the whole ship. Second time we've been bumped from Summit. Anyone know what the latest offer for a NONVOLUNTARY bump is? Thanks, g3

It depends if the original credit you use was refundable and non refundable credit. That determines the answer whatever type of credit it originally was is how it is refunded.  So if it came from the cruise line it will be non refundable

As I understand the situation.....you may NOT use any OBC for shore excursions prior to boarding, so it doesn't depend on whether the OBC was refundable or not. So it would have to be purchased using either cash (who the heck uses that anymore) or a credit card. Everything I have seen says that the refund goes back to OBC and not the credit card. So, I guess my question is; "is that portion of the OBC that was due to a refund of a canceled shore excursion now refundable?"
