  1. If I hadn't shrunk, the tux suits would have been M&S as well, and more of the shirts. If someone can prove that all their shoes and handbags and any other empty spaces have been filled with clothing, I might believe they don't have space for a tie. Even things like camera bags. Do they have packing to protect the camera? Why not replace that with clothing?
  2. I just did an online search and picked M&S EU results for Formal dresses and Women's Occasion Dresses. All the formal stuff was Jaeger and most expensive was €199. It would really need to be an exceptional item for us to consider paying that for a dress. But the biggest problem is it all looked frumpy. Everyday wear perhaps, but would need significant accessorising to wear on a night out. The emails I've received in recent times have gents suits in pastel colours, no sign of ties. And other casual garments. They suggest I might be interested in such styles for an event? Wednesday morning grocery shopping? 😀
  3. Depending on what and where the construction is, getting a transfer to AirTrain might be an option. Bearing in mind you said you'll only have hand luggage, another possibility is ferry to Rockaway. I think @Pushpit did that last year. It needs two ferries transferring at Pier 11 or Sunset Park and connections might not be great. From Rockaway I think you need a train then AirTrain, but I've never looked at those details.
  4. We have some M&S ladies wear, shirts and ties that we have worn in the evening on Cunard but only shirts and ties on an advertised gala. My wife's two black M&S suits will probably be used on evenings next time, again not gala nights. In terms of 'dumbing down' that was discussed here recently I find it quite amusing that M&S keep sending me promotional emails proclaiming their latest in occasionwear or smart outfits, and when I open the emails all I see is casual wear!
  5. I think this confirms that the Pavilion Pool has steps at the end furthest from the big screen. It's a crop from a friend's Facebook post. Hopefully CC's displayed resolution will show the steps under water and the person in the photo appears to be climbing the steps.
  6. Depends on what height you are. If you are not very short, and taking snaps with anything other than a wide angled lens, the foreground obstruction wouldn't really obstruct the view.
  7. I assume you don't have pets?
  8. Apologies; I didn't realise there were balcony cabins of that configuration. The comparison videos I suggested folk look for were all inside cabins.
  9. I've seen YouTube video comparisons of the two types. Not sure who by. It might have been Paul and Carole Love to Travel.
  10. I've never owned AirTags and am unlikely to. The promotional material suggests two things. If the phone and the AirTag are within about 10 metres of each other there will be a directional arrow showing the location of the AirTag. I imagine by that stage you would probably have the person carrying it in view. The other situation is where the AirTag location is picked up by other iPhones and is displayed on a map. I appreciate the map will only show plain blue but I get the impression that the location of the phone tracking it will be shown as well. I would have hoped that would have shown the general direction on the ship that it was located compared to the tracking phone. Of course that doesn't resolve the issue of what deck the thing might be on. I didn't find a demo video showing that sort of tracking, most cover the close location function but not longer distances. Some of the promo pictures show article location and a blue dot for phone location, but I don't know if that is what happens in reality. If it is how it displays it should indicate the general direction to move in even without a ship outline. Assuming that one doesn't just make simpler arrangements to keep in contact.
  11. A QM2 Jubilee Tea and an Afternoon Tea were the only times I've taken tea for at least eight years. I only drink coffee from an espresso machine.
  12. What's the point. Just pour it back into the cup. 🤣
  13. I've watched a few videos from the QA Queens Room now. It looks better than most ships for dancing. The chair issue wouldn't bother us as long as there is somewhere to leave our drinks. We're quite happy to stand while we drink in the short break between dances. That of course assumes there is some sort of music that we could dance to. It might not be practical to dance to acrobats background music. Academic of course, she's not a Transatlantic Liner and we don't cruise.
  14. Your posting history suggests this is a Celebrity cruise. In which case you are looking for a transfer from the Port of Villefranche to Monaco, rather than Nice. It's a shame that trains are not an option. As a resident of the region I wouldn't consider using anything else between Villefranche and Monaco. I do argue that the local trains are not as reliable as they are in my native Scotland but I'd rather be on one of them on a hot summers day than crammed into a car in summer traffic.
  15. Visit to Juan-les-Pins for lunch today. First try of the restaurant. Nice location on sea front with views around bay and of Île Sainte-Marguerite. Forgot to take pics of the Egg Parfait and Asparagus starters, but they were very nice. Don't think I'd bother with the egg again, I prefer them fried, scrambled, hard boiled or in an omelette.

    Santorini

As with most places in the world, if I decide that I'd like to see it in detail I'll watch a few YT videos. There's only one region I want to experience and we live there.
  17. Absolutely nothing to do with one-upmanship. Yes we all know what folk are talking about, but you can't just ignore the wrong terminology being used without informing folk of what is correct. A practical example is that someone travels from US to UK on QM2 and has what they think is High Tea. They then spend some time in the UK and come across a restaurant serving High Tea and discover it's something completely different.
  18. Valid point. They mainly address it as Afternoon Tea but use the term High Tea a couple of times. I note they offer their Afternoon tea up until 5pm on certain days. That wouldn't normally be the case in the UK. The Willowbank serve their High Tea meal between 5pm and 7pm, after that it would be dinner, which is priced by the course (a la carte).
  19. But there are other differences between South East France and Scotland. I feel at home here, but very uncomfortable in Scotland, particularly since 2014.
  20. And just about the only thing I might want to visit Scotland for, that's the dancing I mean, not the High Tea. Too bad I can't have French food and weather and Scottish/British dancing!
  21. @QuestionEverything "High Tea" is an early evening main meal, normally served before dinner for folk that want to eat earlier. It is usually a reduced menu similar to a pre theatre menu. The attached menu from a venue that we used to frequent with friends because it offered Saturday night dancing, shows a choice of four mains, and the tea, toast, scones (no cream) and cakes were placed on the table as you ate the main course. As an aside; just to prove there are cutbacks everywhere, when we were there last there were at least double that number of choices on the main course.

    Capri excursion

We were in Sorrento independently a couple of years ago and planned to go to Capri. We didn't go as the forecast weather conditions were such that they could take us there but it was unlikely that they could bring us back until the next day. If the negative reviews haven't involved missing the ship and needing to catch up with it at the next port call I would be inclined to ignore them.
  23. Of course it happens on flights as well. Apart from watching and listening to the demo, I keep an eye on those that are paying no attention. These are the folk I'll avoid on my way to the exit if there is an evacuation. Our last flights, on an aircraft type we've flown on many many times, the demo revealed a different life jacket from those I've seen before. Those that didn't watch might only inflate half the life jacket.
  24. First tennis final I've seen where one player so obviously wanted to get finished quickly to watch a football match!
  25. Reminds me of a study I read a report of. Some US university had concluded that tea was being made in the wrong way and people were wasting far too much water and power. They concluded that boiling a small amount of water in a kettle and pouring it on a tea bag in a cup would save valuable resources. They obviously hadn't a clue what tea should taste like, as no self respecting tea drinker would do anything other than pour their efforts down the sink. I'm not sure how they would produce a refill from their efforts either. I don't normally drink the stuff myself but if I tried giving that to my wife I'd expect her to spit it back at me.
