  1. Post was read, the cruise line got that middle name from the customer or TA...they don’t ‘make up’ passengers names...good grief.

Plus if it is the passengers name...middle, first, or otherwise...what’s the issue? Undo the top button, deep breath...ahhhh vacation...

Sounds like the oatmeal is ruining someone’s vacation again!

  2. Name change(s) at $100.00; is reasonable.

Try it with other cruise lines...or airlines! Most will Not do it for any $$$.

MSC will let you change passenger/name up to a week before departure for $100; a friend’s travel partner had a conflict and MSC let her choose another person just a week before sailing...not family either!

    Try that on another carrier....

Some expect too much, if MSC (and their T&Cs; did you read them?) does not fit your taste....please choose another line...freedom...a wonderful thing.

    Every sunset is Awesome :-)

  3. Not YC, but buffet on Deck 8 back in Feb ‘18 Seaside, they had sushi one meal...very basic rolls.

Roy’s had great fatty tuna...as always a lil spendy...but tasty

Sorry can't answer your questions but have a question for you. I guess I can assume from your question there is no sushi in the YC buffet or restaurant? Sushi is probably a la carte so no way to buy a package that would be worthwhile if that is my only interest specialty restaurant wise?
  4. Ate-Awesome that you replied with links, vs. the typical...’do a search’ type response many on here provide...forums are not archives and many threads get off topic very fast.

Being Black Card has several perks and the free speciality dinner is just one. The welcome back meet and greet, priority on/off is another...

I will enjoy another BC speciality meal in 14 days, yeah I’m counting...ready now!

MSC does a good job recognizing loyalty, if by earning directly or indirectly through a match. As a business traveler, I have earned many elite status levels and have obtained a couple through a match/challenge...

Black Card is the same either way of earned or matched...Enjoy!

  5. and some people just want to complain...they yell at their TV and curse at the paper and expect others to agree...I video these jerks and should start a People of WalMart type website....bad cruisers...

Last cruise I shared the video to management to show who did what...that jerk passenger didn’t get squat as a result...Lol, we are watching...

  6. Hey Dodger64-

I will amazon your favorite oatmeal to the comfort of your home and take all the risk on Seaside...Lol

Relax at home eating your favorite oatmeal, leave all the horrible cruising to us who enjoy punishment!

Sheeeze, the amout on petty things folks will post about.

Yeah, I get the tack 64 is playing...but heard crazy on the ship and tons more on this board....remember the butter & salt horror!!!

Never saw a bad sunset, always a 10 outta 10.

Relax folks, the earth spins around the sun...not you nor the US.

    Enjoy your cruise!

We board the Seaside in less than 30 days.

My enjoyment and ultimate satisfaction for the whole trip is 100% dependent on the oatmeal that I will eat for breakfast.

Should make for a quick review.

I will let you know soon after I get back.

  7. The standard package is 3gb shared on maximum of 2 devices. Be sure to turn off all apps that will burn through your usage...MSC for me app doesn’t use this, it is intranet and free onboard for all.

I found the connection good and could watch family sent short videos with audio and had a voip video call...it just used up lots of the package and buffered some.

Overall was happy, if you require constant hi-speed connectivity...you might not be fully satisfied cruising.

For us, being mainly offline was part of the vacation from life we wanted.

    Cheers, enjoy your vacation!

    Thanks for your reply.

We didn't book an internet package, it just came included as a promo at the time of our booking. None of the descriptions there seem to match the description on our e-ticket. I guess we'll just have to wait and see once we get on board, though I would've liked to upgrade if possible before we go to avoid the 20% service charge (for internet  )

  8. Hi Skinsfan-

It is not a jab if true, you do know that folks from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, etc are all Americans as well.

I specifically called out some of my fellow US countrymen for what has been posted here and mostly what I experienced first hand while on Seaside.

For those reading these posts trying to decide, ask if the posters have actually been on Seaside. If yes, then determine if their likes/dislikes match yours...if they have not actually been on Seaside, they are just adding noise.

Being functional in only 1 language and less skilled at accents is a handicap...most people on this small globe speak multiple languages.

Ever heard the saying that folks from NYC are not friendly? Or that folks from down south are inbred/stupid...these are false stereotypes...that many take as truths. False stereotypes are the root of many MSC complaints.

There are many experiences to choose from in the cruise market...pick what you prefer...like Ferraris, pasta, and wine...make mine Italian please :-)

MSC shouldn’t change, many of us US Folks Love it the way it is.

Food was better than the other lines.

Service top to bottom was Awesome, 5 Star.

    No Smell

Was on in Feb and never smelled anything foul on Seaside other than the Carnival ship in Nassau we were docked by...not a jab and do not hold that against them...they are good at what they offer.

But having served in the US Navy, smells on and around wharfs, harbors, docks, boats, barges, donuts, ships, etc...they are part of the expected experience.

    Never saw a bad sunset...

Bext wishes on your next cruise!

Why does every thread on this board have to have someone take a jab at "US folks" or "Americans"? Bad food, service and the stench of sewage is a universal problem. It has an effect on your vacation regardless of which country you are from. But if that is what you expect out of your "Euro-centric cruise experience" more power to you.
  9. Issue is with US folks thinking it should be or is ‘like’ the Walmart/Hooters/Mouse cruise lines...

Stay away if you are afraid of hearing other languages and trying new flavors...

Having actually been on Seaside early this year and going again this year, not in YC ever...stay Euro-Centric MSC! That is why I go, to meet/mingle with various folks from other countries and eat/experience the Italian/Euro offerings.

The majority of negative things written about Seaside are by folks that wanted the ‘other cruise’ experience...which they should have booked.

Enjoy the cruise that matches your taste/likes!

I do not troll nor post on other cruise line forums about all the things on their ships/cruises that doesn’t match my taste/likes...

    Cheers,

I haven't kept up with all the reviews, but I am not surprised at all if that's the case. Seaside is a newer ship and there were many struggles at the start from what I've read - things that might be an issue of a European/Italian cruise line adapting to North American tastes, or things that were just a case of new ship/new crew. I tend to find that the mega ships experience a lot of average reviews and again I don't find that surprising.

YC has long been touted as the way to sail MSC. I'm not afraid to admit that I booked YC for next year because I was looking for the upscale experience and the itinerary I chose happened to be half the price of Haven in NCL. I know it isn't for everyone, but we don't cruise that often and I want something amazing when we do.

  10. Max-much appreciate intel on this...looking forward to finding out who will be onboard for Sept 1 Seaside

    Thx

His post on Instagram about coming back to Seaside was from a few months ago, as he said goodbye to her to take the helm of Seaview. I'll try to find it and post it here for you.
  11. Hi CCers-

Want to be clear, my using walmart is not a slur...walmart was the nationwide retail leader serving the most customers and generating the most revenue. Before walmart it was kmart and sears...I see similarities between msc and amazon in the NA cruise industry 'market disruption'.

I like competition and am encouraged by the various lines bringing more options to cruisers.

Slei15: you seem to be setting your clients up for success, matching their needs/wants with the right cruise...Cheers to that!

Never had a bad sunset on land nor sea, enjoy!

  12. Hello Cal HHR-

I get your line of thought on 'review websites' and I appreciate your thoughtful reply.

You are correct that all the posts on CC amount to a drop in the bucket compared to total Seaside cruisers in just her 1st few weeks.

What's key is to keep in mind are the 60,000+ who have spent >$500 each (most >$1,000 all in w/airfare and add ons).

Wallets speak LOUDLY...those are the most valuable reviews and the results are bankable!

I would bet there are as many on CC that have already rebooked (or have multiple bookings) on Seaside, as there are the few '1 and done' folks that wanted a walmart/cookie cutter cruise.

Several on this website and others, made many claims of MSC's doom; as it did not meet their expectations of being another 'walmart usa CL'....Lol.

Seaside/MSC set the bar high and it appears that in a few years the cruise industry could have a change similar to the auto industry with the arrival of Japanese and Korean makers. Who saw Amazon as a threat to walmart in the late 90's?

Change, like the tides, keeps the harbor clean:)

Cheers, enjoy the cruise of your choice!

The problem with any internet forum or review website is that it is almost always a relatively small sample size and not always representative.

Thus far the comments on here, both positive and negative come from a significantly small portion of less tgan 1% of travelers.

If you are trying to say that the negative comments on here are useless because of the sample size we can say the exact same thing about the positive comments. There have been 60,000+ travelers but so few positive reviews.

  13. We sailed 3 weeks ago and found most of the noise here on CC forum to be issues that were perceived, non-existent, or wildly exaggerated by a handful folks. Appears they had expected Seaside to be 'like the Walmart cruises they are used to' or never stepped on board...yup just trolls.

Worst smell was a lady, that bathed in perfume from the flea market...sitting 4 rows over from us in MDR...whew!

Seaside has an opera show, one evening.

Majority of the passengers are not USA citizens yet, was told 38% were on our sailing.

They don't load the food with SALT, plus they have dishes other than beef and potatoes.

The buffet is about flavor and quality, not huge choices, not in steam tables the size of a football field like typical USA feed troughs. Croissants not biscuits, baked swordfish not catfish...you get the picture. MDR and Butchers Cut exceeded what we know to be 'typical'.

We were 1st time on Seaside, we preferred the differences from the 'regular CLs ' departing US ports.

Are we exclusive to MSC, No...will we continue to spend our dollars on a variety of vacay providers, Yes.

We already have booked Seaside again this year.

Yeah, it's that good, is it for everyone...Lol what is?

Math speaks truth, only a few negatives in the forums or reviews...60,000+ folks have sailed in 12+ weeks, nuff said.

Cheers, enjoy the CL of your choice!

  14. Your milk needs will be met, also no need to ice in cabin, put in the refrigerator/mini bar...you can ask your steward to clear it out for you on 1st night, if you will not be buying/using all the offerings.

    Sailed 24FEB-03MAR

    Cheers, enjoy your cruise!

  15. Use the MSC for me app:

    * Book theater shows and specialty dining for entire week in 1st few hours onboard, must click on all passengers images to book for each.

*GPS directions/deck plans help you navigate around the crowds for port days and theater/dinner times. Example: leave theater on Deck 6 and walk aft to middle/atrium elevators

*In morning look at MDR menus, decide if you will be going to buffet

    * Check the weather

    * Check the dailies

    In general:

    * Don't follow the crowds, we adjusted to be just before or after 'peak times' and had much space/peace with no hassle

    * Find what, you like and do it a lot

    * Ask the staff if you need something, they do not come around pestering you...if you want 3 pieces of bread in MDR, ask for them...if you will want more bread with your entree, let your sever know at the beginning.

If entree is not to your liking, ask for something different

They allow you to order multiple starters and desserts...

    * Check out the various venues and decks early AM and late PM

    * If you are not going to buy items in minibar, ask steward nicely to clear it out for you, keep your extra water and snacks in there

    * Buffets on deck 8 and 16 both have TONS of outdoor seating, usually one side is protected, if windy

    *Have Fun

  16. ZERO issues in shower or bathroom on Seaside.

DH is 6'7" and not a thin build plus bum knees.

Maybe these posters have severe disabilities?

I know many that are posting complaints and perpetuating false information that have Never been on Seaside.

    Standard balcony cabin...

Plus no issues getting into closet, yes the sofa was close to the sliding doors....but we prefer the extra floor space in cabin and balcony...like the few seconds required to put up or retrive items from the closet...how does the narrow space become an issue?

    Life is good...enjoy your cruise!

  17. Howdy CC's!

Cruised 24FEB-03MAR, in Balcony Fantastica cabin.

Captain Massa and the Entire crew, we encountered/observed, worked very hard for all to have a great vacation experience.

The brightwork and glass decor was stunning, as was the amount of cleaning, wiping, and polishing we witnessed by the staff.

    What stood out to us:

Plenty of bars for a quite drink, smooth music, dancing, high energy party, and deck space to enjoy the awesome Caribbean!

Yes, many bar options...yet not the drunks we see so often on other vacations...this is not a typical US based 'booze cruise' that more resembles the culture of a Nascar infield or truck stop. (My Dad was a trucker, for a while, so yes, I know these places...plus I have been to over a dozen Nascar events and 100's of dirt tracks).

Good and some great food that was better than typical USA offerings, always the appropriate temperature and well presented. Well seasoned, not overloaded with salt and grease.

Noticed all the staff with food thermometers, yeah they are serious about food safety and proper temps.

    Standouts for us:

    Lamb chops on buffet

Dry aged filet at Butchers Cut

    Pizza and pasta on buffet

    Seafood and sides in MDR

Venchi on Deck 6, EVERTHING :D

For us, we enjoy experiencing the multi-national passenger mix on Seaside, this was a positive. The crew were easy to communicate with and any issues were as much our weakness. How many languages do you speak? Not enough is the correct answer, Lol!

Elevators were fast and efficient, surprised at a few folks actually expecting it to be instant and empty....Wow!

Outside deck space, huge and tons of great areas to enjoy the sea.

Theater, shows, and performers were TOP Notch, went to every one and enjoyed each....yes Butterflies too.

Cheers, enjoy the cruise of your choice!

~5,000 cruisers are on Seaside each week having a great time...we booked again for this year, it was that GOOD!

Perfect, duh No, what and who is?

  18. We were on Seaside 24FEB-03MAR

Deck 16 evening buffet had very good food, memorables:

    Lamb curry

    Prime rib at carving station

    Sword Fish baked

    Jerk chicken

    always great pizza

Not Applebee's nor the typical, salt packed and greasy, USA casual/thematic dining fair...which is Exactly why we went on MSC Seaside.

Seaside this week will have served approximately 60,000 cruisers, in ~12 weeks time, seems the complainers are insignificant...(math is not for or against you)!

Look at the data if you are on the fence about Seaside or any other CL or vacation!

Cheers, enjoy the cruise of your choice!

  19. Many white casual, but several went alll out with cocktail/tux...just enjoy the live music and huge crowd...last week it was about 1,200 fun folks having a blast. The 91yr old chap in wheel chair, in the congo line was a hoot!

  20. On same cruise, just off last Saturday...No smells in cabin or passageways. Did the OP remember to add water daily to floor drain by toilet? If yours is low/dry you might get some gray water smells.

On deck 11 port side aft balcony.

No smells on any deck while cruising. Spent early AM on Deck 18 for sunrise views and no smell.

While in Nassau, Carnival Liberty on starboard and NCL Escape on port...all 3 ships where off loading garbage and that did smell, which then dissipated.

Greatly exaggerated is well stated on many of these negative reviews. Only encountered one clogged toilet and that was on deck 8 during white party.

It was in service the next day.

Also one door handle of active doorway, it was replaced the following day as well...saw many folks yank/pull/fight these handles as they didn't read 'PUSH'.

Note there are doors that are not active (in use) that have the handles removed...duh.

Many issues appear to be created by and exacerbated by the passengers.

Cheers, enjoy the cruise of your choice!

We enjoyed our Seaside cruise and did book again, we are not loyal to MSC, just felt it was a good value, awesome ship, good food, super crew with fantastic global passenger mix...bonus: wonderful shows and entertainment.

Other CLs have different offerings, if these better match your needs, then please book those.

I just got off the Seaside Feb 24-March 3rd cruise, I can verify what Danny has mentioned. To add, I was in a YC delux room, and the last 2 nights/early mornings there was a noticeable smell.
