Been on Joy 3 times, once in Haven Penthouse Suite deck 17, once in Balcony and most recently in Haven Suite on deck 14. I preferred the Haven Suite on deck 14, much better room layout and quick walk to haven proper and usually a lot less money.

I have stayed in both layouts - while both are great, we prefer the bedroom near the balcony. We enjoy the two entrances to the balcony and the larger bedroom.

Nort true, all the times in the past where I have upgraded from a Balcony to a Haven with prepaid service charges, I was not charged any more. Latest example was my 5/1/22 Sailing of the Joy where I won an upgrade from a Balcony to a Haven Courtyard Penthouse.

I have been upgraded several times when I had prepaid gratuities and they did not increase. (The latest was a May 2022 cruise on the Joy)

I will switch my vote to the Joy, I have been on all the Breakaway/Breakaway+ classes of ships except the Encore - they are all very similar. Joy is great if you will not miss the Thermal Spa, plenty of things for teens to do on all these classes of ships. Cost of extras not bad $10 laser Tag and you can usually get a race car bundle +/- 50 bucks. I usually have onboard credit that I let me kids use up on extras...

I would pick the Encore, plenty of things for a teen to do and the price is right with all the perks!

I stayed in 17132 (same Location) on the Joy. The ping pong tables are in that corner of the Joy and heard very little noise from them, occasionally a ping pong ball would fly by...would not hesitate to stay in that room again. The balcony was extra large as well!

I just use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees and tip in USD.
