  1. We booked two of those. I know it's not the same as a balcony...but seems like such a neat concept for interior.

It really was neat and we got to see the NCL ship we were on 10 years ago when in Bermuda and got to see what was going on with the weather outside without leaving our room or paying extra for a balcony.

  2. We just sailed the Anthem a week ago and honestly, we liked Oasis and Allure better. We had a great time but we just felt there was more shopping and things to do on the bigger ships. The bigger ships never felt as crowded either. The set up is different and doesn't allow for big crowds at one time in many places. We did like our inside virtual balcony room. That was very cool. This book is known for all the technology and they did very well with that. We always found things to do and sometimes too many at one time as they tried to squeeze a lot into 5 days but everything you went to, you had to get there an hour early to get seats.

  3. When exactly was I demanding anything? I was asking people's opinions and don't have a problem with their responses unless they involve attacks or ridiculous assumptions. I find it hilarious that someone actually took the time to look up the POLICY QUESTION I asked in another thread about the kids club then accused me of being an awful parent for asking about leaving my child on the ship or accusing me of complaining. There was no complaint in either of these threads. Just asking if people thought this was normal. Which most think it is, so no problem. Many of you are the ones making incorrect assumptions and statements. Not me.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't most people use the kids club as entertainment/babysitting while they do other things on or off the ship like go to dinner, go to shows, etc.???

When my kids were young enough for the club, we worked our schedule around them. We didn't plan a dinner or show around the kids club. Once they said they wanted to go, we would go and try and get reservations then. We have never left them on the ship as that was our purpose in taking them on the cruise to show them the different places and countries. Maybe if they were there many times before and insisted in staying on the ship we would but we never came across that and never will as they are teens now and the last 2 times barely left our sides :( lol

  4. Wow. Totally unnecessary. I guess all people that like to visit the casino are bad parents? Good to know. And for everyone asking, the kids club was open the first night. And this registration table I am talking about was literally INSIDE the kids club area doors. RCL ships are different to the NCL ships we are used to going on and I don't remember them having this "lobby" area inside. I appreciate the constructive criticism and suggestions but have no time for bashing, assumptions and attacks. I didn't think it was too much to expect the staff to simply ask if our son knew where his parents were. I now know that this is too much to expect of a RCL employee. We had a good time on the cruise overall but will probably not be back on RCL. Just our preference. This kids club also forced my son to sit alone at lunch the 2 or 3rd day when he went back to the kids club because they thought he had a peanut allergy. He told them he did not and the paperwork showed he did not. But he was still made to sit at a table by himself and eat lunch. All of these things were addressed with the manager on board.

Was your son in the kids club a lot after that first day? Did he enjoy it? I never had my kids in there at lunch time so it sounds like he had fun as he was in there at that time of the day.

  5. The OP starts a thread....Child "accidently" left....really? While the father was signing up the child, where was mom? Don't parent's escort their child(ren) to the room and meet the councilor, and introduce themselves and advise on any medical/food situations that "may" occur? Maybe scan the room see what projects are planned for the week? Seems to me the parents are blaming the staff for their mistakes. But in today's society, finger pointing seems the norm

She was already in the casino as she stated in her first post the father was coming to meet her there.

  6. Correct. On Oasis Class ships, Adventure Ocean opens at about 8:00 pm the first night. Just returned from cruise (Oasis). Dropped our son off on the first night. Same thing happened on Allure in 2012. Not so much on the other classes, not even Freedom.

Thanks. My kids were in the kids club in 2008 on NCL, 2010 on Oasis and I remember both times it was not open the first night. I urged my oldest in 2014 to meet other teens on Allure on the first night and she went but I don't think it was open for my youngest (even though he was not interested in going even after walking him around earlier). I also remember back in 2013 on Allure all the kids were around the first night as it was not open either. Maybe it is something new or for the older kids which I find better so they make friends sooner than later.

  7. Yes. This is my child and the registration paperwork was all completed will all information about our child disclosed. My husband didn't realize that he had to physically walk him down the hall to the age appropriate room AFTER he registered. On other cruises we were always given a phone in case of an emergency due to our son's medical problems.

I don't think there was anywhere to bring him though as I don't think there was any kids club that night. Correct me if I am wrong. That is why they sent him away.

  8. You are totally wrong on so many levels. I am glad that you are such a perfect parent. Yes, my husband made a mistake. But I think its ridiculous that the staff didn't try and ask where we were or treat my child as they would a lost/abandoned child. We have never been on that ship before and he thought it was the kids club sign in. They were literally inside the doors of the kids club at tables. I think the staff could have told people they had to go further inside to properly sign their kids in. I don't know that I would have known it either. And I am not angry. I am just seeing what everyone else thinks to decide if its something I should pass on so it doesn't happen to any other children. Also, my son has medical issues and was not authorized to sign himself out. But, I guess that's somehow my husband's fault too. It's a shame this board has turned into to people trolling and attacking other people when they simply ask for advise.

Sorry you feel that way but I don't think anyone was attacking you and there really is no advice after the point. I am thinking it was a sign up for the entire cruise as I don't think there is kids club the 1st night. They probably assumed you knew. If your son said he could get back to his room then they wouldn't question where you were and for the first day on a new ship, that is pretty good for a 9 year old to find your room, IMO.

  9. I thought it opened after dinner is ended for the late night activities for the adults?

Unless it changed as when we had our kids on other cruises, they had nothing for them the first day and that is why you always see the kids around until the 2nd day. The teenagers might get together to hang out but usually the younger kids stayed with the parents that first night.

  10. Hmmm...the child also has medical problems from another thread she started so the father was just running without speaking to the crew???

I searched the forums but couldn't find information on this. We are sailing on the Allure in a couple of months and this will only be our second time on RCI. Our first RCI cruise was 8 years ago on the Freedom. Anyways, our son has medical problems but is an active, stable 9 year old. On NCL, we were told that someone has to stay on the ship at all times while he is in the kids club due to his medical problems. I am wondering if anyone knows whether royal carribean has the same policy or not? I would not be interested in taking an excursion away from the ship but maybe walking around the port area. And I have international service on my phone so I could be contacted in case of an emergency. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide regarding this.

  11. Two things, I noticed. First, kids roam unattended on the ship all the time and is not uncommon. Second these are seasoned travelers, including the kid. The kid also had a communication device. Now the other thing that was mentioned is that the Father, left their kid in a hallway on the ship to go to the casino. A sign up table, for kids' clubs, beverages, spa treatments, and permission forms are all over the place. This is not the kids club, but a table set up in a public area, and the kid was left behind.

We have become a society of let's blame someone else, when we make the mistake. It was clear, the parent made the mistake of leaving a kid alone. The kid was asked if they needed any help, and he said no. He had a phone with him. The parent left. The blame is on the parent.

I am surprised the child, the 1st day figured out how to get back to the cabin (on the 17th floor which is all high end suites if I am not mistaken-lofts) already. I just went on the Anthem and was afraid I couldn't find my room as it was hidden away lol

  12. reread the original post: kid was NEVER IN THE CLUB TO BEGIN WITH, so even if he did have sign out privileges there was nothing to sign out of. furthermore he was of an age where an adult has to sign him in tot he club..,and he was sans adult since dad legged it for the casino without verifying his role was done.

Junior was trying to ENTER the kids club at an age where the 'rents need to formally hand him over to the care and custody of the AO staff. he was asked if he could get back to his cabin on his own, responded affirmatively and they instructed him to do so.

about the only thing I MIGHT have considered to be a further appropriate action on the staff's part was asking Junior where he thought Mum and Dad were after not getting an answer at the cabin. had he responded: casino, they possibly could have called down there to ask a staff member there to find them. but we don't know how busy it was with other parents checking their kids in( my guess is pretty busy)

at this point there was no reasonable exception that a ship wide announcement for Mr or Mrs So and So to please report to AO was necessary.

And...if I am correct (from having kids with me and on other cruises where the kids are never in the kids clubs the first night), the kids club is not opened the 1st night. The OP said this was their 14th cruise. They didn't know this?

  13. Always fun and funny; why are cruise directors scared to ask a new question; same old boring set every cruise no matter what ship or CD. But the crowd and the participants make or break the show.

Exactly and I mentioned on my latest review of my cruise how these shows need to be revamped. They are the same questions and if you go multiple times on a cruise, you can easily win if you participate and if you don't, it just gets really boring.

  14. We were actually on this cruise also and found the ship too small for our liking. We have been spoiled by Oasis and Allure 4 times total and liked those ships better. They had more room and while they have 2,000 more people on board, it never felt crowded like this ship does.

5 days was not enough to explore and do things. We never made it to Jamie's or many other things as there was just so much packed in, in a little amount of time.

We had a great time, no doubt and very little problems but we don't think we will be going back on this ship again.

  15. We love La Trattoria in Hamilton. Not cheap but there are items on the menu that are not as expensive. Most places are not cheap in Bermuda though. It cost us $22 in 1994 for KFC for 2 people. That was when we could eat in a sit down restaurant at home for $20 total.
