  1. sorry for your problem, but it only goes to show you that you should never, ever use ncl air service. some folks swear by it, some at it! while it sounds like a terrific deal, look what happened to you. the only time i ever even thought about using this service, i found out that its the lowest seats available, and to upgrade on your own, the costs was even lower than the ncl fare. we like to go in a few days earlier, and stay in the city from where we are departing. ncl only allows this for 1 day prior (i believe) . we live in los angeles, and if we're departing from either miami, tampa or new orleans, i take the red-eye. nothing special i want to see in either tampa or miami. we get to the airport, grab a cab to the port and voila! we're there also, next time if you give ncl another chance, check the fare to ft lauderdale. sometimes its cheaper and only about 30minutes or less from the port in miami. finally,if you paid by cedit card, i would contact them and file a dispute claim
  2. iloveglee: it wasnt all that time consuming, maybe a hour and a half from the time we arrived at the port until we got to our cabin. (being in a haven suite didnt hurt, but didnt really speed up anything until we processed thru the covid test at the pier. besides we've had about 8 cruises cancelled due to covid from march 2020. i made it to athens, always wanted to see jerusalem/istanbul, so i would have jumped thru any hoops necessary to get on this cruise. more of a pain in the a** then time consuming. also, the conccierge tols us the ship ws sailing at only 1/3 rd capacity
  3. posted this before, but i hope it helps.. our cruise departed from athens apr 8th. ncl required a negative covid test at least 3 days prior to boarding . we had it done on the 5th. when we got to the port, ncl administered another covid test and you had to test negative before being allowed onboard. (this was free) the 1st port was jerusalem, but the 1st was a sea day. while at sea, the israeli ministry of health, sent its own people to once again administer another covid test. the next day (in israel) no one was allowed to disembark until all the test results came back. you're booking is 4 months away, and all things may be completely different by then. as an aside, in order to travel back to the u.s, before being allowed on a flight we had to show proof of a negative covid test at least 24 hrs prior to flying. there is a covid test station at the athens airport, and we were fortunate in that there was a hospital right next door to our hotel (marriott) and we had the test and results within 30 miniutes.
  4. i think the proper thing to do is for the people who are dropping out pay you back in full for the money you have already spent. it may sound harsh, but they're the ones who put you in this position. im surprised they havent offered this already in the alternative, if the final payment date has not yet passed, call ncl directly and try to cancel, or adk them if y ou can put 2 other people in the cabin
  5. while its not my favorite place to eat, with all the assortments of food, at the buffet, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, to make a comment like you did (even in jest), the problem lies with you, not the food. try making 3 meals a day with all t he choices you get, for 3000 of your closest friends, and have everything come out perfect. the cruise line, the cooks, servers etc, should be commended for their efforts, not criticized by people like you "pig slop" indeed! you should be ashamed of even posting a comment like this
  6. any cabin that offers a balcony wins hands down imho. i dont care about the treats, or the sparkling wine, its nice to just sit out there with an ice cold heineken or a glass of champagne and just watch the world go by. sometimes, i just go on the balcony in the middle of the night and just watch and listen to the night
  7. o'sheehans is ok also. i wouldnt suggest you pay for the upgrade on such a short cruise, but for almost the same amount of money, you can go into any of the specialty restaurants and pay the charges. i especially recommend cagney's, moderno and teppanyaki
  8. ive neverhad any problem getting an extension cord from my cabin steward for the entire duration of the cruise. on our recent cruise (april 8 thru 17th) my wife has leg cramps and they can only be alleviated by drinking gator ade. i contacted ncl and they allowed me to bring 6 bottles on board. if ncl cant supply distilled water, try and make arrangements to bring y our own on board
  9. as long as the final payment isnt due, you can change up to that date, either add a name, remove a name or cancel completely. better do it asap to save yourself any hassles. also there should be no additional charge if done before final payment
  10. depends on the degree of total alcohol consumption of you and your traveling companion. for my wife and i its not worth the upgrade costs. the regular package is sufficient
  11. if you have already booked a cruise/cabin, log in and when the prompt tells you to view your reservation, you will see a group of choices. click on "dining" for the selection of restaurants on the ship. choose the one you want (or multiples) and it will not only show you the specialty restaurant, but also allow you to view the menu so you can check not only the choices, but t he prices. if you have the dinner package, 2 of these are free, if you are platinum or higher, you get 2 more choices either cagneys/la cunina or cagneys/ le bistro
  12. blackjack or texas hold'em if i'm feeling lucky
  13. ok ziggyuk, maybe next time. i owe you a drink!, but i usually dont participate in meet and greet. sorry
  14. it's about 45 minutes to an hour to get from the port to rome itself. the traffic in rome is horrendous and i'm not sure its such a great idea to rent a car. the 2 times we were on a cruise where rome was one of the ports, i merely hired a cab for the day. it was around $100 but that was a few years ago. ive been driving for 58 years, and i wouldnt even consider driving in rome. the locals are "NUTS"
  15. doesnt matter the deposit, in the end, the total price for the cabin doesnt change. this only means that you'll be paying a bigger amount at final payment. while i'm not sure what ship youre on, the usual deposit to hold a cabin is $250. for a suite it's $1500. you may have either misread or misinterpreted the deposit. it's always been $1500 for a suite, not $1500 per person, and this amount applies to any haven cabin. by the way, if youre able to book a family suite for 12 nights at only $5000, i wouldnt complain!
  16. in that case, i stand corrected. i was certainly unaware that there were any covid positive cases found, especially after all the testing prior to barding and with the israeli medical staff aboard. so if you were also on this cruise, you should have said something and i'd have bought y ou a drink
  17. way to go rocketman. that's what i'm talking about
  18. taishartrueblood: what does being or not being a vegan have to do with this topic? as soon as i get on board i make dinner reservations at cagneys' moderno and teppanyaki. im a true carnivore. what's wrong with enjoying a day of fishing, and then throwing back your catch if there is no way to eat it? your post is entirely irrelevant to this discussion!!!
  19. so i stand by my 1st post.. catch and release!
  20. or if you really insist on eating what you've caught, it's fresh, do sashimi
  21. if you cant bring it on board, and have to wait until post cruise to have it shipped (with no guarantee it'll make it to your home) if its the joy of fishing, i still believe catch and release would offer the same thrill as actually fishing, and still let the fish live.
  22. why dont you do the humane thing? catch and release!
  23. we were on the jade from athens april 8th thru the 17th. ncl required a negative covid result 3 days before sailing, so we had that done. at the pier in athens, before being allowed to board, we were tested once again (no charge) the 1st day was a sea day and the 1st port on the 10th was jerusalem. on the sea day (april 9th) the israeli health ministry sent their own inspectors, and the entire ship was tested once again. all the results had to come back before we were allowed to disembark in israel. all that being said, i didnt hear of any problems. or cases of covid on this cruise. i will give ncl credit where it's due. they seemed to have all their based covered as far as safety of the passengers and crew were concerned. now, obviously this may not be the case for all ports of call and all ncl ships, but we had no problems at all. to even simplify things, we flew delta and needed another negative covid test before we were allowed to board any flights back to the u.s. we stayed at the athens marriott, and right next door was a hospital. it took 30minutes to get t he test and results, no charge, and the next day we were happily on our way home
