  1. trumpynor, no i always book directly with ncl. we have a rep that works directly with casinos at sea, and she is a godsend njkate. i realize that it's a 3 hr bus trip, i just have always wanted to see paris and my wife has always wanted to see london. this kills 2 stones with 1 bird (oops). while im not crying in my beer about not being able to see berlin, again, i think it would have been appropriate for ncl to let us know especially changing after final payment was due
  2. for shorter cruises, you get 2 dinners per person specialty restaurants, and can purchase more if you wish. most ncl ships have the following: Cagney's, (traditional steakhouse) teppanyaki (if youre familiar with benihana, same same. moderno (brazilian steakhouse) there is a large selection of food from the salad bar, and then waiters come around with skewers of different meats. you eat until you're ready to burst, so come hungry , le bistro (french style restaurant) i dont think young kids would enjoy this, and it's my least favorite, so even free i tend not to go there. It's a little to pretentious for my taste. la cucina, italian (some people sweat by it, some swear at it ). also not one of my favorites. food is so so, but i think your kids will enjoy. other ncl ships have other specialty restaurants, but the ones listed are the ones with which i am familiar. the beverage package is for the 1st two people in the cabin. if you're not big drinkers, this package is sufficient. you can get limitless drinks throughout the day, up to anything that would cost $15. or less. any drink above that you pay the difference. it's not totally free, as youre paying so called "gratuities" up front. if you want upper echelon liquors, you can upgrade the drink package, but i'm happy with a glass of chivas, a glass of champagne, a mojito, a cold beer, and a glass of port wine after dinner. i dont need 15-25 yr old single malt scotch to make me happy. i dont use the internet while i'm on vacation, so the wi-fi minutes to me are meaningless, although once on board my wife immediately goes to the internet station to pay for the upgrade. lastly, my main gripe is the so-called free shore excursions. regardless of the cost, you only get $50 off each port. imho, that hardly constitutes "free" in the end, everyone has their own criteria for what they want from a cruise vacation. mine is itinerary and price. so far for the past 12 years and 18 cruises later, ncl has met my criteria, never having been on a carnival cruise, while i cant knock it, it just seems that every time something bad happens on a cruise ship, its usually a carnival vessel. whatever you choose, have a great time.. sorry for this lengthy diatribe.
  3. the point is, it would have been very nice of ncl to inform about the change. i realize there may be change of plans due to unforeseen circumstances while already at sea, but in this case we had 90 days before sailing. while i'm grateful that ncl could send out an email regarding no need to show negative covid test prior to entering the u.s. i think some notice of the port change would have been appropriate, especially since the date of final payment has long gone
  4. guy asked a legitimate question, lighten up on him. he's on an ncl cruise and tomorrows lottery numbers are 8, 16, 21 23 30, 32. good luck with that. if you play those numbers, i also have ocean view property in las vegas available for purchase!
  5. as long as youre on the ship 2 hrs prior to sailing you should have no problems. there will probably be many openings to book shows (and stuff) once you get on board, so dont sweat it. also, i would see what the cab fare runs. if your hotel, has a concierge, try and utilize his/her services, or go with your gut, check another shuttle service.
  6. you are correct. the site wont let you enter any information until 21 days prior to sailing. in the past fully checking in was available as soon as the reservation was made. those days (unfortunately) are long gone
  7. helene109: you're a little late to the party, this issue has been discussed many times. It's NCL policy, they will not open the balcony dividers. it's considered a fire hazard to keep them open. some people have previously advised that their cabin steward did in fact open them. if so, he/she did it at the risk of their jobs. so, sorry, it's not happening
  8. most hotels try to be accommodating if a traveler needs an early check in. if there is a room available, they will do their best. remember though, they have to deal with people checking out, and then send up the cleaning crew to refresh the linens and toiletries, clean the entire room, remake the beds, etc. in a large hotel, this takes time, so most hotels give a 12:pm checkout and a 3-4 p.m. check in. also, remember that some people will request a late checkout which further ties up the room
  9. if youre in the main dining room on a carnival cruise ship, after dinner if they ask for your key card, try telling them youre not staying at this hotel and see the expression on their face
  10. my wife was just on hold for almost 2 hrs on a different issue. its not unusual to have a long wait. lst time i called, i was on hold so long i lost 15 pounds (lol)
  11. we always had 24 hrs to cancel an excursion, and get the money refunded or taken off the bill. i dont even usually book an excursion until i board, and only about 2 times in 18 cruise with ncl have i been locked out of an excursion. so unless it a tour that leaves on the 1st day out, which i doubt, there should be no problem.
  12. unfortunately, lobster on the menu on ncl, has gone the way of $3.00 gasoline. never to be seen or heard from again. the last time we had lobster in the mdr, was many years ago, it was only the tails, and it looked like jumbo shrimp that were fed steroids
  13. if you get the chance you should definitely try and stay over in barcelona either before or after your cruise. it's an amazing and beautiful city. especially sangrada familia cathedral. ive threatened my wife about leaving her and moving to barcelona, but after 53 years of marriage, she just laughs and calls my bluff. but seriously, it's worth it if you can stay a few days
  14. it may be a fascinating city, and i confess, the only city in denmark i wanted to see was copenhagen. as yet, no shore excursions are listed. as delightful as aarhus may be, it doesnt overcome the disappointment of losing berlin as one of the ports imho
  15. thank you all for your responses, i never imagined i would get this many. and julig22, yes the excursions got to berlin by train, but the berlin port has been unceremoniously canceled without (imo) any notice whatsover.
  16. trumpynor. im well aware that berlin was quite a ways from the port, and any excursion took 2-3 hrs to arrive. i was looking forward to taking the train. i am also aware that paris is about 3 hrs from le harve, but ive always wanted to see paris (even briefly) and will not be deterred! just a little miffed about not getting any notice from ncl about the cancellation, and admittedly, havent read the roll call lately
  17. we're booked on the sept 16th sailing from london to copenhagen. i was reviewing the shore excursions, and noticed that berlin is no longer on the itinerary., and has been replaced by some obscure port in denmark and no shore excursions are listed as yet while i understand that a cruise line can change the itinerary at any time, i think a little prior notice would have been nice. while i usually wait until i'm on board to book shore excursions, im curious as to what may have happened had i booked and paid for berlin in advance. i probably would have gotten the money back, but i'm sure you will all agree that ncl's bookkeeping procedures "suck" to say the very least. add that onto the $50 off and the 15% as we're sapphire, it seems to me that would have been a nightmare. My wife and I have always wanted to see london and paris. we're going into london 3 days early, and i'm bookingthe river seine cruise in paris. since the date of final payment was may 19th, i can live with the minor disappointment of not seeing berlin, but if paris is cancelled, believe me i'll be major p***ed off. has anyone else noticed this port has been taken away
  18. if it isnt a total transit of the canal, the itinerary should say "partial transit" if this is the case, the ship usually goes through a set of locks, turns around in gatun lake, and goes through the locks again. at least that's what happened the last time i took a canal cruise. fyi. curacao, and cartegena are both beautiful cities, been to aruba twice and found it meh
  19. i too am glad you made it. i hope the 1st thing you did when you got onboard was have a a nice stiff drink. you earned it. to avoid this problem, we always try and fly into the departure city a couple of days early, especially from europe departure points. this way we can enjoy the sights. in the alternative, ncl requires (requests) that all passengers be on board at least 2 hrs before sailing. figure about 45 minutes to an hour to get your luggage. google is fantastic for answering the question of how long does it take from the airport to either your hotel or the cruise terminal
  20. you are absolutely correct! frankly scarlett i dont give a flying f**k what anybody else on the cruise, eats, drinks, what shows they see, what excursions they take or anything else someone might choose to do. they can coat themselves with prune juice before getting into the pool for all i care! i merely commented that the pictures of the chef's table seemed to be a whole lot of food. so shrike, you can now either untwist your knickers, or get your b**ls out of the uproar and proceed to chill! sorry (not really) you found my post condescending
  21. it may be a vacation, but i dont think i t's necessary to gorge yourself. how much can one person possibly eat in a day will all the food choices on a cruise ship.
  22. well, if you love to eat that much, i suggest you gorge yourself at breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, keep ordering pizza's and go to moderno a few times. between the salad bar and the choices of meats, you should be able to eat your fill. also, i understand that o'sheehans is open 24/7, and in the mdr you can also order and eat till you drop. all that being said, however, arent you concerned about your health? large waistlines are definitely not good for your heart.
  23. lgw59; without trying to be snarky, i wouldnt pat myself on the back bragging that i could eat all the food shown. have you never heard of "MODERATION" ?
