  1. I have eczema' date=' so I travel expecting everything new to cause issues with my skin. I bring a top sheet with me, to use inside of the hotel or ship sheets. I bring my own laundry detergent. I bring my own soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and sunscreen. I don't bother with insect repellent because I can't use most of them.

Yes, I can do all of this while traveling carry-on only. Yes, it's a hassle. But it's less of a hassle than dealing with an outbreak while I am supposed to be enjoying myself on vacation.[/quote']

Hi Bizmark'sMom~~I'm not sure if I'm doing a BIG no-no for this board. If I am, someone will come along and delete or censure my post. I'm giving you some homework to do:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Research and study: Neem Seed Oil (Unfiltered, Unrefined, Cold Pressed) on skin, scalp and/or hair. This is a multi-purpose use tree (Neem) so look for therapeutic grade.

  2. It seems like many people are in the same situation that I am in. Blessings to all of you who are moving on and pursuing your dreams. My husband passed away in January 2015. I was 59 at the time. He was 71. We traveled a lot, both cruises and land trips. I have been vacationing with my adult son for the past 3 years. I will be retiring in 6 months. I have booked my first solo cruise for October 2019, a Princess Mediterranean Cruise. I am very excited about the trip, but I also have a lot of anxiety about traveling out of the country alone. Reading these posts are helping. Thank you to everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Know you are loved. Know that the same God who watched over you when you traveled with your husband and then with your son is watching over you now and when you travel. He is able to keep you …

  3. Close, but no. There are four Trusted Traveler Programs administered by Customs and Border Protection: Global Entry, Nexus, Sentri, and FAST. The first two include TSA Pre Check. All four require enrollment through the CBP TTP website. TSA Pre Check is a Trusted Traveler Program administered by the TSA through its own website.
It's to the wood shed I go, off by one. That's 75%[emoji4]

  4. Isn’t TTP the same as GE? Yes, you are correct, I thought I was updated the GE as I did not realize that it had to be updated until I read it on this thread.

Are you saying that TTP is TSA Pre check and not GE?

    Did I do something incorrect?

    Thanks

TTP is the same as GE. The name is changed on the WEB address to TTP. TTP encompasses TSA Pre Check but; TSA Pre Check is not TTP. GE covers three programs one being TTP. Ahh, Washington, DC the capital of ABCs, Acronyms and Obfuscation. :')

  5. When your PreCheck is expiring, does TSA send a heads up that one needs to renew?

I'm not sure if they do (I have GE); however, with calendars on our phones, computer and tablets, I have the expiration date of both my Passport and GE on my computer/phone with a one-year alert date reminder set to alarm/pop-up.

  6. Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this conversation as I'm not sailing on Royal Caribbean but on Royal Princess (Princess Cruise Line) In our Roll Call I'm keeping track of people who want to learn Pickleball and those who already know how to play. We have 14 people who want to learn and 5 who know and have their own paddles and balls and Royal has Pickleball courts.

I have posted and updated links from time-to-time YouTube Videos on Pickleball. I hope some people find this helpful:

  7. Global Entry is now called Trusted Travel Program and has a different address, https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/ If you haven't updated your "Global" profile or need to update your new Passport number since the name and WEB address change you will have to create a new login in order to access your profile and update your Passport number.

I've copied in the FAQ for Passport renewal updates:

I received a new passport do I need to apply again for a new Trusted Traveler Program membership?

Your Trusted Traveler Program membership date is not dependent on the passport expiration date. Membership will remain valid and active, even if the passport expires. However, you will not be able to use your membership at kiosks and land crossings until you update your new passport in the system.

If you are an approved Trusted Traveler (Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI) member, you may update certain documents through the TTP website. Once logged in to the TTP website, click on Update Documents on the right hand side of the Dashboard page. Please note this option will not be available if you have a pending application. Follow the prompts to update your document.

If you are not a member yet, this information can be updated at your enrollment interview. Please be sure to inform the CBP officer of the changes that need to be made.

  8. This has happened several times on many cruises I have been on. One person organizes a trip/transfer, etc. Some people cancel at the last minute or don't show and the organizer (or other people in group) are having to pay. That is the main reason I don't organize these things.

The only thing you can do is set up a pay pal account and have people make payment to you or the company before the final pay day is due. If people make payment, they are less likely to cancel or not show up. Sorry this happened, enjoy your cruise!

I was just thinking about setting up a PayPal share. I personally use PayPal when I'm using a company I'm not sure of and don't want them to have my bank or credit card info. I just recently saw they now have a way for multiple people to pay into a pool.

  9. I have to be aware of Sun, my meds (Blood Pressure meds: rash is a known side effect of strong sun reaction), soaps (antibacterial and other ingredients) aka, contact dermatitis and lotions. Because of that I only use certain products that I know don't have chemicals in them, mostly natural botanical products. Chlorinated water in pools also wreck havoc to my skin but is remediated by careful application of one of two products that I use "religiously. One is for baby's with Eczema (raw shea butter; chamomile, argan, frankincense & myrh oils; and a oil made from the Neem Tree (Found in South East Asia). That oil doesn't smell very nice (garlic and sulfur) but it does heal up my skin quick like a bunny and is very soothing.

  10. A lot of over-the-counter meds can cause rashes and reactions when mixed with sun exposure.

I know the above post was made in 2012 but it reminded me of something. Blood Pressure Meds definitely cause a rash when skin plus BP meds plus sun meet. Also people who use Body wash and soaps that have anti-bacteria ingredients will cause rashes when skin is exposed to the sun. If you're cruising in a hot region, rash time.

  11. Sorry,it's my failed attempt at humour across the pond.In Italy they make all their own liquors out of all ingredients with alcohol in 5ltr bottles from supermarkets. You're right, you can't drink hand cleanser, but I've seen a few "characters" drink it in hospital waiting rooms, lol.

Whoosh. That's the sound of irony and humor going over my head. And to think I love British humor. Or is it humor from GB

  12. No,but 91% alcohol is illegal. That's not an essential oil surely.

Is it 91% or 99%? Both can be purchased legally in the US.99% can't be shipped or carried by air only ground transportation. Since I add distilled water (half & half), I could just buy 50% alcohol and not dilute. 91-99% alcohol is used to clean very sensitive equipment as it evaporates immediately and tends not to cause damage. Look it up. For me it's cheaper to dilute 91 plus than to purchase 50% to use as a cleanser.

    Ramona

  13. Do you make your own lemoncello, lol.Joking aside, that stuff is illegal to buy in UK,but ready available in Italy on supermarket shelves.

Had to look up lemoncello, didn't know what it was. I'm confused, essential oils are illegal in the UK? Hmmm. I don' get my oils from local stores or supermarkets; I order mine bulk from a wholesaler; and essential oil recipes for all sorts of things, cleaners, cooking, message oils, etc. abound on the internet.

  14. So excited to be trying solo cruising! I always hate tying to find someone that wants to go on a cruise with me, so I'm going solo! Regal Princess March 31, 2019!!!

will be doing my favorite thing in my birthday, it is a sea day! For the past 8 years I have tried getting someone in my birthday cruise, so next year In doing what I want.

Good for you! Never let what others don't do stop you from doing what you want to do. I saw my first Opera by myself when no one wanted to go with me. I went and had a blast. The person on my right, a woman, only spoke French, the person on my left, also a women, only spoke Italian and I struggle with English. The Opera, The Marriage of Figaro, we had a blast. It was so much fun with my new neighbors. We couldn't communicate verbally, but we communicated with gestures and laughter.

  15. I recall all too well several uncomfortable meals spent by my wife and myself with people who were unlikable or simply loved to hear themselves talk. Donna was always very, polite and was never rude, but afterwards would ask that we be seated somewhere else next time.

As I would be sailing solo, I personally wouldn't have a problem making some excuse and getting up during the meal. I could care less what some clueless fellow passenger thinks of me or my manners. To be honest, I'd probably have my meals in the buffet or via room service rather than take the chance of suffering through an uncomfortable hour or more.

First cruise ever I went with a group organized by an exercise instructor who has a propensity for arranging group adventures. Traveled solo but with the group of classmates, I found myself with some greedy, bossy, rude, intolerable folks in the MDR:eek: Ten day cruise, I found myself in the Buffet, one night at the specialty restaurant, seven out of the 10. One of the nights at the MDR was one of the two formals. All the other none MDR nights, I was by myself.

  16. I make my own sanitizers using 91% alcohol solution (dilute 50% boiled water; 50% Alcohol) If I can only find 50-70%, I reduce the boiled water percentage accordingly. For every four ounces (approx. 113 mil) I then add, 10 drops of peppermint essential oil; 8 drops of cypress essential oil. I carry this in my ever present backpack/bag. The solution, which is shaken vigorously before use is placed in a tinted (blue or amber) bottle (spray or push-up top).

This solution hasn't been tested; however, it is fairly easy to find the properties of pure essential oils. I also know alcohol does not kill all viruses however certain oils can kill one or the other.

  17. I just have a visual image of all the cooking appliances, knives, and good stuffs held hostage in the "Naughty Room" being used in a Great Race and Cooking Contest. All the owners should be challenged to a cook-off using what was confiscated. Maybe it's just my crazy sense of humor but I can see the comedy potential. Pick up the items and food stuffs, run down the gangway to the pier and get to cooking.

My comment regarding "we" was a corporate collective. I have no problem being by myself. I love, me, myself and I and I can't deal with drama. In my perspective, woman seem to have this issue more then men. I could be wrong.

  19. My neighbor invited herself to my son's graduation in Orlando (2005)we live in Brooklyn, NY. Her rational was, she had a time share and she would be doing me a favor by coming to my son's graduation (different story and I digress); she packed her waffle iron incase she wanted waffles. Worst "vacation" I ever had. She wanted to go in hopes of finding an engineer. My son was graduating from engineering school (UCF)

  20. The six figure salary that is quoted is at the upper limit of longshoremen pay and is probably not earned by porters. The salary was easy to find by well... just googling. Seniority, skills needed (operating large machinery to move containers from docks to ships?) can determine pay rate. The lowest is $15 per hr; median is $24.58; highest is $40.67. With overtime, tips, bonuses, profit sharing, a Longshoreman's salary ranges from $36k to 126k USD. I don't think the porters picking up luggage at the docks are in the 126K area. Probably most of them are not full-time employees and only work when there are cruise ships in port.

Google can be your friend not matter what some people think.
