  1. Hi I'm not on Equinox or even taking a Celebrity Cruise but I am a newly minted group exercise instructor specializing in seniors, obese, knee, ankles and balance issues using a "not-your-grandma's" chair aerobics/exercise classes. I will be going on a 50 day cruise in February 2019 and am concerned that I will lose my teaching edge/skills. To counter that I will be checking the gym schedule for class free slots, put my headphones on and teach an imaginary class, sans vocal instructions. My Roll Call (Royal Princes) has 200 members currently and I've asked about people meeting up on sea days somewhere on deck, in a unused room, etc. to at least get some kind of exercises in... for free.

It's the "for free" part along with the group part that has me a little concerned 'cause I don't want to compete with their revenue stream. But as was already mentioned here... mention exercise and you here... crickets. Hopefully at the Meet and Greet (three are planed) one of the veteran cruisers signed up for the M&G knows the CD, as well as a lot of the Sr. Staff … so we'll ask if there are empty spaces and times to set-up an unsponsored ad hoc class.

  2. You must remember that high volume Travel/Cruise Ship sites more than likely have cabins dedicated to them for sale so they will show as being booked. As the time for final payment approaches, those sites will release those cabins.

The Royal Princess cruise I am booked for, through a Travel Web site but through a dedicated agent, has a final payment date at least two weeks before Princess' final payment date. I am betting the travel web site will release the cabins dedicated to them after there own deadline passes.

  3. True not all churches are the same. It is a shame for the people who have lost their money but the church will survive, there is always someone willing to give even if they cannot really afford it.

I get annoyed when people bring up church, Christians when bad things are done in the name of God. If the only crooks, crimes or fraud, bad behavior emanated from so called "Believers" than I would not argue; however, atheist, those other than Christians or religious folk have committed heinous crimes and those not so heinous. Christians are told to "test the spirit" because everything and everyone is not of God.

  4. Some people would say Karma for the church.

Karma to The church, or these churches? Not all churches abscond with money or do not use it wisely. Painting a group with a broad brush is dangerous 'cause there could be someone in your community, your next door neighbor, a close relative, etc. who does an unspeakable crime and you and yours get broad brushed.

The church trips I went on pointed everyone to a Travel Web site after taking a deposit if the person didn't know what they were doing but they had to pay through the Travel Agent's site. They also encouraged everyone to buy trip insurance and gave instructions on how to look for some and what to look for.

  5. Thank you, thank you , and thank you!

I've learned that what we say, what we contribute always helps someone either positively or negatively. However, must positive messages never get replied to or conferred to the giver of info. We will rise up and talk about the negative, the stuff we don't agree with.

  6. Many studies say pets, dogs in particular, can add up to two years to your life.

Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville has therapy dogs all over the hospital.

Maybe we should thank those folks bringing Fido onboard.

I'm sure Marlin Jackson loves the two years extra added to his life by someone else's 50 lbs. therapy/support dog, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4575742/Veteran-s-emotional-support-dog-bites-Delta-passenger.html

  7. I want to make a note that you aren't supposed to use your real name on CC. And I don't think it's a good idea to use your friend's name either. Just a thought.

Went back and reread the guidelines: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/faq.php?faq=guidelines

As long as one is not using their full name as a "handle" and or signature, I'm/we're fine. First name is acceptable. Plus my handle suggest what my first name is if one knows Beverly Cleary's books.

Thanks for the link but it looks like everything is booked up which reminds me of why I went with the hotel I've reserved, there are a total of six ships in port and they are all leaving on the same day, Feb. 2nd 2019.

One of the reviews said this hotel was like Fawlty Towers … does anyone remember that (BBC). So maybe I'll play along and enjoy Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) and not Basil the Rat;p

No not me. I never heard of Laundry Sheets until I started looking for detergents to take with me on my cruise. It was CruiseGal999 who asked the question. But I'm sure she would be interested. The price of those sheets give the impression that they have been discontinued. WoW. I wonder if you can find them on e-bay.

  10. Long cruise or short/long cruise followed by land travel, detergent and space. I found this new product on Amazon made in Canada, Laundry Strips. I checked out the weight, shipping weight is less than 6oz so should not add a lot of weight and can also be used to hand wash (tear the strip in half).

[As a side note, this would be great to send your college students off with.]

Check out the questions and answers some from people who have purchased the product and some answered by the manufacture.

  11. WOW ... ok, this is off topic, but I had to say something. From a very first cruise of 10 days to your 2nd cruise of 49 days! THAT's impressive. I don't know if I could even do 49 days on a ship.

Bucket List :D I'm doing a South American … 'round the horn. I had wanted to a Disney, 7 days, with my two grand kids, 6 and 2, buy my son and d-I-l said no so I just moved the money over to the S.A. Darn Disney is expensive:eek:. The cost paid for half of my 49 days.

  12. We were at the Homewood Suites. On line' date=' it said shuttle service within 3 mile radius. When I asked, the day shift person gave me a list of places (all restaurants) where they would take us. When I asked the evening shift, the desk clerk called the shuttle driver and asked him if he had time to take me. The Publix was only about a mile away, but wasn't on the "official" list. No problems--the driver took me and gave me his number to call when I was ready to be picked up...all for the cost of a tip.[/quote']

Wow! I'm going to look up Homewood Suites. Hotel I made reservations for is right on the beach in FLL; however, reviews are not good, Sea Club Resort. It's an old hotel; however, it has had some 50/60s movies made in it, :D

  13. If you need milder detergent' date=' bring your own. We have someone in my family who's allergic to regular detergent. If you don't like using pods, you can measure out a load's worth of powder into a ziplock bag. Put all those bags into a bigger ziplock bag just in case of breakage.[/quote']

I'm going on a 49 night cruise and I use "green" products, specifically Mrs. Myers, and as far as I know there is no pods. I'm an exercise instructor, group, so I live in exercise clothing, so no fabric softener. My first ever cruise was 10 days back in Dec. 2017 and I washed my clothes in the laundry, 3 times. I guess I'm obsessive. :D. I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale, embarkation port, 3 days before the ship sales. I'm thinking of doing some shopping at the Family Dollar Store and/or Target. Laundry Detergent is on my list.

  14. I want to pipe in regarding taking children's birth certificates along with you when they have their own passports. Parentage may be questioned when the child is of mixed race, adopted by people who are not of the same race. My son has been questioned and had the police called on him by concerned citizens when he is out with his daughter. My D-I-L has been asked if she was alright when we've been out together and she calls me Mom. By the way … both of my grandkids have the same father, my son, so everyone has the same name.

  15. So I wanted to add a conclusion to those that might still might be following this thread. After two emails "unanswered" and a phone call that ended up with nothing good, I decided to expand my outreach to individuals that might be slightly more concerned with how Carnival was reacting to customer service deficiency's. I sent out one further email to all of the board of directors of Carnival and tagged all of the Carnival officers.

It took about 15 minutes before I received an email from the director of customer service. She politely ask me to respond with a specific time to which she could call me and discuss my concerns. I setup a time for the next morning. After about a 25 minute conversation she was in complete agreement that not only did Carnival drop the ball they could have and should have done so much more to have made this trip a success. "I know that statement alone will shock many who posted on this thread that Carnival handle the situation appropriately." She was very concern, showed empathy and quite frankly shocked at how we were treated. She informed me that she wanted to discuss the issue further with her boss and she would call me back shortly. She did indeed call back within the hour and advise me that Carnival was requesting a do-over with our trip. Were going to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. So Carnival has given us a full credit towards a new cruise with them.

Quite frankly it was way more then I expected but after hearing our plight she thought it was the correct move. So yes it was a challenge and took almost two months to get resolution and going way up the food chain, Carnival finally took care of us. My wife and myself will give Carnival a second go and hope that memories created on this second trip will wipe out the nightmares of the first one. :D

Good for you and thank you for coming back and giving us an update. As asking is the basis for receiving, you have done a great service for others who think nothing they do will help or can come to a satisfactory conclusion. Thank you for continuing your pursuit despite our negative responses to your journey (I include myself).

  16. sorry but your promoting an idealized world, and it dosen't get better by saying the Lord or Karma will get them in the end. They wont... but the police will... This clown knew full well what she was doing and had 3 chances to figure it out... and did not because thats what she planned to do from the get-go. She will do this again, and again because she got away with it

Give it a break … the horse is long dead, LOL

  17. Wow. Unbelievable. I would have made a serious stink if that happened to me.

The interesting thing is that "doing the right thing" does not control how rules are enforced, money paid out does. It's the insurance companies that drive change especially if they find themselves paying out a lot of claims.

The event that preceded Delta Airlines issuing changes in what, where and how "support" animals were allowed into the cabin was the attack on a paying customer on one of their flights Nov/Dec by a veteran's 50 pound dog sitting on his lap. After several plastic surgeries and more to come, the payout to the victim could well be in the 6/7 figures. Because I'm in a closed group of Airline employees, though I'm not one, my son was, I know their complaints. A few have been bitten, growled at, jumped on, defecated, urinated in the cabin, by supposedly support animals and they were not happy.

    Ramona

  18. Here in NY I’m pretty sure that animals are never allowed in a grocery store (with the exception of an ada animal). Period. It’s just not sanitary. Same goes for restaurants.

I'm from Brooklyn and although not legal, I've seen animals in stores. Some small mom and pop stores, food stores, do not allow animals in their shop but more and more I'm seeing untrained supposedly support dogs on the subway, in high end supermarkets (they don't want to "annoy" their customers.

  19. I guess I should've been more specific. Ramona, I am the employee.

I figured I'd ask the question since I haven't been able to find anyone in my entourage in the same situation. I'll look up these non rev FB groups you are refering to.

    Thanks

Airlines that I KNOW have Non-Rev Facebook groups: Delta; American Airlines; United; JetBlue … I'm sure there are others … There may even be an Overall Non-Rev Group. I do know there are airline forums outside of Facebook. You will more than likely need to have on hand when you request to join, they are all closed groups, your employee info, as they usually check the employee only Web site to see if you are an employee.

If you were on Delta's Non-Rev (There are two or three) you would definitely have several answers by now.
