Not all new ships are designed the way you’ve described - as just one example, Explora has full decks of public areas and seperate decks of suites - and they’re building a fleet of 6 ships to that specification If a promenade is your thing and a “must have” you’re going to have a very limited range of options going forward As to the crew being unique in their anticipation I don’t agree with that - we’ve experienced it on other lines as well but I will agree that in the past many of the Crystal crew had been very good at doing that

Perhaps everyone’s in a food coma 😂😂😂😉🥂 -
Thanks for the review - always appreciate your commentary and honest appraisal of the situation Looking forward to hearing your views on Explora (if you like Umi Uma then you’ll love Sakura!)

So is that at the Inter Continental Tokyo Bay? That looks like a nice spread at a reasonable price

Interesting - is there a MALE Maitre d in Pacific Rim now? - I thought they tried to maintain a female team out in the Pacific Rim restaurant from the maitre d down -
Maybe - but there’s no Deck 13 on Explora 1 and they claim they don’t provide umbrellas in the suites as it’s unlucky for someone to open them inside (they’re available for use ashore at the gangway) Sounds like they have plenty of superstitions to me…

Might be good if someone onboard could check that refill station at Crema - I think I recall a sign there when we were onboard two weeks ago advising guest not to refill bottles there (don’t know about the ones at Emporium) I think it said something about hygiene issues but it was fine to fill the glasses available at that dispenser to have a drink of water As I say best if someone can check that for us -

Yes - such a sacrifice while chugging around the seas on a gas guzzling ship after flying there on a jet guzzling fuel but o feel so much better for it - I’m still waiting for my certificate from Greta Thunberg 😉😉😉 -

Like you we cruise multiple lines - it seems a trend to have these onboard aeration systems - Regent even use a system which they seem to think the brand name of which will make a difference to me 😂😉 I generally request San Pellegrino for our room (not a fan of Perrier) but if they don’t have it or can’t provide it then I just move on - Iife’s too short to stress about it I did draw the line on Crystal a couple of years ago in their Italian specialty restaurant when they said they didn’t have Pellegrino but offered ship made water instead - I reminded them where we were and said surely you can find some Italian water for your Italian restaurant - within a few minutes I was enjoying San Pellegrino with my meal Like you we don’t spend a lot of time in the suite - but I do find I need water at night as somehow I seem a little thirsty after a few wines etc in the bars during the evening - funny that… -

Yes you can - that's certainly not going to be an issue - just let your room attendant know - our standing order was 2 bottles of still and 1 of sparkling and they were replenished each day -

That is not correct based on my experience over a couple of weeks onboard - I had a carafe of the sparkling water in the fridge in our suite each day and it had enough bubbles for me. Our room attendant replenished both the sparkling and the still for my wife each day without prompting If sparkling water is your thing you should try it -

As I said she only got small bottles of San Pelligrino in her suite We never bothered requesting it in bars or restaurants -

A friend on our sailing got small bottles of San Pelligrino in her room fridge on request - so it is available if you push for ir Our room attendant offered them to me but I decided I'd do my bit to save the planet and used the sparkling water onboard while in our suite and in bars and dining locations - I survived a couple of weeks unscathed -

ding ding ding - we have a winner (and new information)….anything other then a 601 is going to get more personal scrutiny -
Before Silversea he was a “living treasure” on Crystal - please say hi from Terry & Kerry from the Avenue Saloon - I’m sure he’ll laugh - we’re in his little black book Oh that he will be on Muse when we’re back in May

You’re seriously suggesting those items they serve on Seabourn in TK are of a Michelin 3 star Chef standard? Oh well if that’s the excuse Seabourn chooses for not catering to their guests requirements when they are advised months in advance of dietary issues then so be it (far far longer than 96 hours) -

Certainly not our experience on Seabourn. Try asking for ANY variation in the Thomas Keller restaurant and see what response you get -

Did you try asking the maître d of the Emporium? What was their response? Asking the basic line cook to vary the recipes is unlikely to meet with success but I suspect if you asked a more senior chef who is actually responsible for a section or staff you might get a better result We made it a point to thank the senior chefs in Emporium who were responsible for multiple stations and found them very responsive to our requests -
As they say it’s 5 o’clock somewhere…. I have no doubt that cruise will be attractive to some markets - it’s summer in Australia and the beginning of holidays - always popular for getting away for a pre Christmas break Your comments about the US market doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the case for other countries at that time But that’s just 1 of 21 itineraries that Silversea are offering with no single supplement - I’m not sure that each of them has a tale of woe as to their attractiveness to potential clients All cruise lines are continually battling to sell capacity - and I think that’s going to get even harder as more and more capacity enters the luxury, or near luxury, market - so they’ll all be looking at ways they can move capacity - at any time of year
-
I bet it’s a HO function - having regional sales offices make those decisions would be chaotic as it needs a central point of management - imagine competing regions trying to take all of the potential upgrade spots….
-
Port to port is definitely an option - as to whether it suits an individual that’s their call - we definitely book Port to Port as it works for us Any cruise booking at a certain point becomes an issue if cancelling - that’s what travel insurance is for to cover that risk
-
We can’t wait to be back on board Silver Muse - we had a great cruise on her earlier this year As always it pays to do your research before booking to make sure you know what’s on offer on each ship - restaurants and other facilities can vary on those with a larger fleet
-
Certainly not all of them fall into that category - as an example this one is at a fare level that is very much standard for this very common route on a luxury line (I haven’t reviewed all 21 cruises on offer by Silversea) This one’s around US$400 per day based on the port to port fare - so well below the $650 you’ve mentioned https://www.silversea.com/destinations/australia-new-zealand-cruise/auckland-to-sydney-sm231207014.html
