  1. Don't panic, if you bought your cards through legitimate retailers (not resellers) you are fine. Enjoy your cruise. One should always keep receipts to prove purchase(s). With the availability of 10% off gift cards from a number of places such as Verizon, AARP, and others I'm not sure why people utilize the resellers as their discount is the same and the cards are usually only guaranteed for a limited amount of time.

The title of this post is a little misleading as this is a reseller issue and not a gift card issue. The more established resellers are very good about making it right within the terms of agreement. It is printed very clearly the terms of reimbursement and should be read and understood prior to purchase.

I think she is talking about travel insurance not covering the amount of the cruise that she paid with discounted gift cards.

  2. Not ready to quit, yet, but cutbacks are starting to wear. Like table cloths - sounds petty, but I had to chase my plate all over the table whilst cutting my entree. Does anybody think Carnival really cares what we complain about? Has anything ever been reversed because it was so unpopular?

I hate not having a tablecloth as well. It just seems to amp the noise and clatter up exponentially in the dining room. However, if enough people complain, I still think it can be changed. Carnival cruisers screamed about the loss of shrimp cocktail and they brought it back. Carnival cruisers complained about the lack of live music on the ship, and it too is being brought back. Hope springs eternal. :)

  3. We just booked the Havana Patio Cabin for our Dec. cruise on the Vista...........anyone else have one of these cabins and if so, what can you tell us about the experience with them? How did you like sharing patio time with passers by (even though it is wrist band access only)? Heard they serve breakfast in the Havana Bar each morning.........if so what do they serve? (would be nice to have something to take back to the balcony to enjoy each morning). How was it having access to the pool and hot tubs during the day? Being on deck 5, what else did you take advantage to during the day or on the ship? SIL has the patio next to ours so really looking forward to this new kind of balcony/patio.

I loved ours. It was very quiet on our patio, and maybe a dozen people walked by every day. So not as public as you might think. Had more activity in the balconies above us.

They had discontinued the breakfast items in the Havana Bar when we sailed, I do not think they've started them back up again since February. However, the Taste Bar is steps away in Ocean Plaza and they had a full hot breakfast with a couple of dozen options every morning. No crowds and you can eat where you please.

We also liked that our elevators took us either straight to the dining room, or straight to the Lido deck. A stroll forward on Deck 5 took us past the restaurants, and to the Atrium, shops and lounges. It was really easy to get around from Deck 5. We rarely went up to the Lido pools, too crowded and we much preferred the quiet of the Havana area.

  4. Can't you do the same thing with gift cards? Why the extra step to buy cruise cash? Am I missing something?

I wondered that myself, since you MUST do the withdraw from the casino thing with cruise cash (or you'll lose any leftover funds)....... and Carnival will mail you a check if you don't with gift certificates.

  5. I admit I've never seen the Miracle as a great ship. I don't like the lay out, don't like the decor, and don't like that it didn't get all the upgrades the other ships received, including the Dive In theater. All that combined makes the Miracle a ship I'd rather not spend money on.

There are many choices out there, so I'll spend my $3k to $5k on something better.

I started to say that's why Carnival makes different sizes of ships..... because everyone has their own preferences. Then I realized that that wasn't right, because Carnival is just going to keep adding bigger, badder, more bells and whistles as the fleet grows. :)

We love the Spirit class, and we're fine without the upgrades. I'll miss the Miracle and her sisters when they are gone.

  6. Carnival should really go to something like NCL's "dress up or not" night. That makes everyone more comfortable. I think it's fun to get a bit dressed up and always participate, but I do think it is utterly ridiculous to expect everyone to do it on a budget cruise line serving food that's equivalent to Applebee's. It's a throwback to when cruising was for the wealthy and elite, but the service, atmosphere, and food isn't being thrown back to those times. There are other lines priced accordingly that offer that true elegant experience.

There is zero reason why someone on a budget can't still manage a shower, combed hair and either a collared shirt or a classic top. I don't care if someone is wearing formal/semi-formal/cocktail wear, I do care if the gentleman sitting nearby has B.O., or if the woman next to him smells like feet. That absolutely does affect someone else's appetite. Budget doesn't mean sloppy, lazy or dirty. Coming to the MDR in a ripped sleeve T-shirt or filthy shorts shows off trashy, not lack of money. Clean up and have some respect for yourself, as well as others around you. /rant
