Just some information for you. There is not a processing fee. The price charged the traveler includes the NCF, non-commission fees. Those come off, just like they come off for travel agents and you only get the rate of what is left over. The NCF is about 1/4 so you essentially got $300 of a $400 rate.

On Oasis last February, never felt the ship move once. I am the seasick queen and I was thrilled with no movement. Never took any meds the entire trip which is a first for me....

We had a JS behind Central Park where Giovanni's is located. Heard no noise and is super convenient to the Park which is fabulous.

Are we allowed to ask what the commission is that a TA typically gets? I am curious if it is a flat rate or a percentage and how much it is. I have always wanted to know.

Depends on the volume the agency processes, but larger agencies get between 10 and 16% of the cruise fare. That does not include taxes, fees, etc. So as an example the cruise costs $1,000 pp. The fare that the TA gets paid on is about, in round numbers $600. So at 16% the agent would get $96 pp.

If the price goes down, their commission goes down as well. So when ppl want the TA to give the all sorts of "stuff", wine, OBC etc, remember it comes out of that $96. MOST TA's do not charge any sort of fee.

Huge online agencies make money by the McDonald's principle, sell a billion at 1 cent profit better than 100 at $10. I'm a TA (part time)and I even book with a large online agency because the spiffs are better than I can get for myself.

No they are not. Just off Oasis last Saturday, I had replenish and hubby had ultimate, and shakes are not part of the deal.

Really? Extortion is the getting something through force or threats. That does not fit this situation at all. It's a civil issue at best, but it's not a criminal offense (yes, I have law enforcement experience).

After over 100 days (14 cruises) w/Carnival, first RCL, Oasis Feb 22, 2014! We are really looking forward to something different.

I am pissed! Bought an Invicta watch on the Carnival Dream in March 2012. The watch lost some time. When I brought it back to the store on the ship just before we left the ship, they told me it was likely the battery. Because it was the last watch they couldn't exchange it. They told me to simply take it to a jewelry store and have the watch battery changed. I did question the "fun shop" employees why my receipt didn't have the make or model of my watch if I did need proof of purchase. They told me that's just the way it is. I said it needed to be clearer so I didn't end up in a situation if there was a problem. The clerk actually said "So are you calling Carnival liars?" The ass. manager stepped in to cool him off. He was implying that he was an employee of Carnival. When I returned home, no authorized store. I MUST pay to send the watch insurred to California with a cheque for return shipping of $28 and they will change the battery. They said they need it for 90 days to test it. All on a brand new watch. BTW the MSRP on the watch is $799 but I got it for $179. Can't find it anywhere over $200. I know most don't pay MSRP but don't buy their hugely over-inflated MSRP prices!!!!

 

I called Carnival and they said it isn't their problem that I was misled as the employees in the "fun shop" are not their employees or their stores. Told me to call Starboard Stores. I tried doing that and their phone line says to call between 9-4EST. I was calling during those times.

 

I was misled by the employees in the shop I thought was Carnival which it isn't, the product is not worth anywhere near what the price tag indicated, Carnival "customer service" was terrible on the phone and I will not be back! RCI here I come!

Does RCL run their own stores with their own employees and products? Just asking since I don't know. If no, then I would think the scenario remains unchanged.

The Sushi Bar located on the Promenade Deck is open nightly prior to the dinner hours. Sake is available at a nominal cost.

 

Haven't actually been ON the ship yet ... so, maybe someone who has can let us know if this is right. DH and DD will most likely be at the Sushi Bar daily ... hopefully they'll still be hungry for the MDR!:eek:

Have been on Splendor twice. It's not always sushi. Several nights they serve tapas (tiny bites with a Mediterranean theme). If you love sushi, I'm afraid you will be disappointed. It is not what you might expect. California roll, unagi (eel) and a few other cooked pieces of fish. None is raw.

Have been on Splendor twice, once to Canada during H1N1 and again to Mexico. No real difference in the dining rooms except front one, Black Pearl is somewhat smaller. The entrance to the Black Pearl can get crowded at meal time because it's entrance is under the stairs in the main lobby (atrium).

Our advice, grab a seat and a drink and wait until it thins out. They will still feed you if you are at the tail end of the line.;)

Tandoori food was a great change and the Rotisserie is the best for lunch because it's quiet and the chicken, baked potatoes and mac and cheese are great.

Ignore any comments about the decor. Yes it's pink. Yes it's pink zebra circles. So what? Great ship, nice crew. Nice little bar areas. Take the Behind the Fun tour. The view from the bridge and talking with the captain are worth every penny.
