One item to triple check.   My wife and I are planning a Southbound from Whitter to Vancover in June of 2024.   So we need passports.    I have one from years ago, so only thought about getting my wife one.  Well as part of the process, I pulled out my never used Passport and found out it expires April of 2024.  I would be SOL if I had not checked that.  So now I am getting both of us a passport.

So for those that depart or arrive from Vancouver, make sure to check your passports.  No assumptions.

I run paranoid about my passport. So I usually check it at least once a year 😄

  2. I did this cruise on the same ship this past August.  Yes, you can embark either day. If you fly in on the 4th, or before (which I highly recommend), then I recommend going ahead and board on the 4th. Use the cabin as your hotel that night.

Keep in mind, if you have a connection on Toronto, there are only so many flights to Quebec each day. We were supposed to arrive in Quebec at 5:30pm on Wednesday. We didn't get there until 9:30am Thursday morning.  Also, keep every single piece of your flight paperwork. If there a delay, and you're flying Air Canada, you may be eligible for reimbursement. My partner and I both boot l got 1k CAD, although mine wasn't without a fight.

Hope they open booking soon. Want to book the sapphire for 2024

Captains Circle on 12/6, everyone else 12/7. I sent my requirements to my mom (my TA 😁) last night.  We've been talking so she knows what I want. I gave her a range of cabins, cabin category, and deck. I'm nothing if not thorough.

The smoking area on deck 7 is in the aft area outside Club Fusion. If you are sensitive to smoke, the port side might be better.

Thank you! I'm actually allergic and do try to avoid as much as possible. We're looking at southbound and my friend wants us to have our balcony "on the side where we can see land". 😁 We'll humor her.

The decks and balconies are similar to Grand, Golden and Star Princess. So if you find info about them, the info is almost the same except for a few isolated cabins.

Also - the Caribbean, Crown, Ruby and Emerald except they added an extra deck but the deck names are the same. For example - Caribe balconies are all the same on all of these ships.

Oh that's good to know.  We just did the Caribbean Canada/ New England this past August and were on Aloha. We also have a friend planning on joining us as a solo this trip who will be planning on using our balcony.

  6. Hello.  Looking at booking Sapphire for Alaska in 2024 when it opens next week. Are there any preferences/ thoughts/ opinions on the Dolphin (9), Caribe (10), or Baja (11) decks? I haven't seen a lot of posts related to this ship in particular outside of why it's preferred for Alaska.  So appreciate any thoughts.

I would want to see the itineraries, time in ports, and details!

That might be just as important as the ship.

I haven't seen the program yet, but am wondering if I can assume these Voyage of the Glacier itineraries are about the same as they are next year.  I would want to see all the ships and their detailed itineraries.

Based on the document provided earlier in the thread, it appears the times will probably be the same as 2023.

Haven't been to Vines yet but once we do I'll get pics of the menu for you.

Interesting note: with Princess Premier we get drinks "up to" $18. On the TV menu and app the ONLY sparkling option is an $18 per glass Brut. It's quite lovely. But I know they have a Prosecco at $10ish. It's not even an option for me. Again this is only when we order on the TV or app. My favorite vacation drink,  a strawberry margarita, is NOT on the app so we've been calling room service instead to get them.

If you like sweet drinks, then I highly recommend the Egyptian Zombie. The app said it was an Explorer's Lounge specialty.

If you are worried about the ship leaving you behind in a port, why not tack the DIY portion on the end of your cruise? My husband and I, plus his cousin and spouse added a week at the end of our one-way cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage (well, actually Whittier but transportation was available to Anchorage). We rented a car in Anchorage and spent a fabulous week on our own, including 3 days in Denali with incredible weather and full view of the mountain. We were all in our late sixties/early seventies at the time, so we weren't 'spring chickens' then either.

I'm starting to lean towards DIY. I have a friend who wants to do the cruise with us and if we DIY, it may end up cheaper for her (no extra costs for being single).

  11. Hello.  Looking at doing Alaska again in 2024. My partner and I just the cruise previously (cost constraints at the time) and regretted not having the land portion.  So in 2024 we will definitely have a land portion included.

Wondering if anyone has done a DIY land tour and your thoughts? If anyone has done both the cruise line land tour and a DIY and your thoughts.  Thank you!

**Edited to add regarding land tour, we would be looking to do whatever would hopefully allow us to see the most wildlife. So would be OK with renting a car to just travel places for DIY.

We will be getting onboard on the 31st when you arrive back in NY.  I realize you're going a bit further north than we will be but can you give me an idea about clothing for going ashore.  Is it warm enough to be comfortable in shorts or should I pack more jeans and long sleeved shirts.  I looked at temps for all out ports (yesterday) and the highs and lows were low to mid 70's during the day and low 50's at night.

We got off in NY on Monday.  I brought a pair of leggings, a light rain jacket, a few t- shirts, and tank tops (and shorts). It rained in Saguenay, Charlottetown, and Sydney with Sydney also being pretty windy. I wished I had brought a couple more t-shirts and one more pair of leggings.

What do you mean 'United' we are flying United to Ny and then home from Quebec. I have not seen any request to fill out any forms. There was of course the covid test before returning to US but that has been eliminated.

Passports have been added. For some reason it keeps showing this.
