North Cape tour, part two: After leaving the king crabs behind, we journeyed up to the North Cape. It’s about a 12 km ride on the North Cape road. Wonderful views, very barren and desolate. And not a tree to be found. Once there we went into the visitor center first. on level -3, there is a good short movie about the four seasons on the North Cape. We are Disney fans and the first thing that ran through my mind as we walked into the theater is the movie about Norway that was in the Norway pavilion at Epcot before Anna and Elsa invaded it . Then it was out to the globe, Again, stunning views and such a feeling of serenity. Some pix: And a quick compass reading of latitude and longitude: couldn’t resist a fresh waffle with brown cheese and strawberry jam !

What a great first day in Honninsvag! We had a North Cape tour with Blue Puffin and it was wonderful. Monika was our guide, her and her husband Sebastian own/run Blue Puffin. It was about 4.5 hours and stopped at two fishing villages, one very near her house in Kamøyvær. @Norwaylady, she mentioned that the village no longer has its own school. Here are some postcards, I mean pictures of the fishing village. Next it was on to Skarsvag, where we got up close and personal with a King Crab or two. Next up —- the North Cape and reindeer! mac_tlc

Utopia of the Seas Blocks Are In The House!

They are doing the same thing on Jewel on Thursday, I think. I’ll pass, not at all interested in 3/4 day voyages. The shows were a big draw for us on O class, not many needed for short itineraries— more saved $$$ for Royal. mac_tlc -
So, my wife always gets her nails done just before we leave on any vacation and often tries to match the theme. She did good this time! Made sure to get the flag in the background.

Good morning! Ship time is 8:30am . Here is where we are. If the earth is flat, we will be falling off soon 😜😜. We pick up the pilot around 12:20pm and should be alongside in Honninsvag about 2pm. Today we have our excursion to the North Cape with Blue Puffin Tours at 3:30. I think it’s about 3.5 hours or so. Should be a good weather day. No rain and highs in the 50s. We stay overnight in Honninsvag and depart tomorrow , 6/22, at 4pm. No sunrise or sunset today or tomorrow —- or in fact until August for this part of the world. mac_tlc

Thankfully no. They had some crew members symbolically jump into the “frigid” pool ( which is heated) and then asked for more volunteers to make the sacrifice to insure safe passage . The captain and another officer were painting noses while the cruise director poured a little cold over on people. It was a lot of fun. And unique. mac_tlc

It really is difficult to convey in words or pictures just how spectacular the past 14 hours have been. I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit what has to be one of the most spectacular places on the planet. On the sail out from Geiranger, the captain stopped and did a 360 at the Seven Sisters waterfall. Wow. Just as spectacular as the Seven Sisters is a waterfall that is on the opposite side of fjord. Here are some pictures that don’t do justice to the site. All of these pictures were taken from our aft balcony. Seven Sisters: The other side 😂. I’m naming it the one lonely brother:

Just took this. We are about two hours after leaving Geiranger on Jewel of the Seas: This one was about 5 hours after we left Amsterdam, as we got to the North Atlantic Ocean: This one along side the terminal in Amsterdam:

Today in Geiranger the high is about 61 or 62 Fahrenheit. No rain , a few clouds, a great day. What a spectacular sail in. The pictures really don’t do it justice. We just got back onboard. Last tender was scheduled for 3:30 but given the line at the pier, it won’t be that quick. We walked around the town, got a light snack at the Hotel Geiranger. Great and beautiful time. A few pictures:
