  1. What a great first day in Honninsvag! We had a North Cape tour with Blue Puffin and it was wonderful. Monika was our guide, her and her husband Sebastian own/run Blue Puffin. It was about 4.5 hours and stopped at two fishing villages, one very near her house in Kamøyvær. @Norwaylady, she mentioned that the village no longer has its own school. Here are some postcards, I mean pictures of the fishing village. Next it was on to Skarsvag, where we got up close and personal with a King Crab or two. Next up —- the North Cape and reindeer! mac_tlc
  2. Approaching Honningvag and I think I found the Island of Misfit Toys !!!!! Pilot has just joined us onboard. Spotted two whales off the starboard side:
  3. They are doing the same thing on Jewel on Thursday, I think. I’ll pass, not at all interested in 3/4 day voyages. The shows were a big draw for us on O class, not many needed for short itineraries— more saved $$$ for Royal. mac_tlc
  4. So, my wife always gets her nails done just before we leave on any vacation and often tries to match the theme. She did good this time! Made sure to get the flag in the background.
  5. Thanks! That is awesome ! Supposedly the weather will be good, low 50s F, no rain. I’ll be on the lookout for MrNorwayLady’s former home! mac_tlc
  6. Good morning! Ship time is 8:30am . Here is where we are. If the earth is flat, we will be falling off soon 😜😜. We pick up the pilot around 12:20pm and should be alongside in Honninsvag about 2pm. Today we have our excursion to the North Cape with Blue Puffin Tours at 3:30. I think it’s about 3.5 hours or so. Should be a good weather day. No rain and highs in the 50s. We stay overnight in Honninsvag and depart tomorrow , 6/22, at 4pm. No sunrise or sunset today or tomorrow —- or in fact until August for this part of the world. mac_tlc
  7. Sorry, this is wrong thread if you are looking for sunset pictures 😂😂. These were taken at 11:06pm!
  8. Peaceful sea day today sailing the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. Weather has been phenomenal. And the North Sea, known for sending wary sailors to their watery doom, well : A few more shots taken after dinner tonight. Darkness has taken a hiatus —- see you in a few days!
  9. Thankfully no. They had some crew members symbolically jump into the “frigid” pool ( which is heated) and then asked for more volunteers to make the sacrifice to insure safe passage . The captain and another officer were painting noses while the cruise director poured a little cold over on people. It was a lot of fun. And unique. mac_tlc
  10. The whole event was maybe 17 minutes. Seemed in a hurry to get to the Blue Nose Ceremony. I'll get the number at some point. mac_tlc
  11. Obligatory Crown and Anchor Stats for this sailing: No mention or distribution of any 25th anniversary trinkets. mac_tlc
  12. I think it was 110 NOK which is around $12USD or about 11 euros. 😜 I was expecting it to be more from what I had heard. mac_tlc
  13. According to the Cruise Compass, todays high will be 52F/11C. We are at sea today heading north. mac_tlc
  14. It really is difficult to convey in words or pictures just how spectacular the past 14 hours have been. I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit what has to be one of the most spectacular places on the planet. On the sail out from Geiranger, the captain stopped and did a 360 at the Seven Sisters waterfall. Wow. Just as spectacular as the Seven Sisters is a waterfall that is on the opposite side of fjord. Here are some pictures that don’t do justice to the site. All of these pictures were taken from our aft balcony. Seven Sisters: The other side 😂. I’m naming it the one lonely brother:
  15. Just took this. We are about two hours after leaving Geiranger on Jewel of the Seas: This one was about 5 hours after we left Amsterdam, as we got to the North Atlantic Ocean: This one along side the terminal in Amsterdam:
  16. Today in Geiranger the high is about 61 or 62 Fahrenheit. No rain , a few clouds, a great day. What a spectacular sail in. The pictures really don’t do it justice. We just got back onboard. Last tender was scheduled for 3:30 but given the line at the pier, it won’t be that quick. We walked around the town, got a light snack at the Hotel Geiranger. Great and beautiful time. A few pictures:
  17. We have arrived! Tender ticket #6. We are about an hour earlier than posted arrival time. @Norwaylady , what a beautiful country , and we have much more to see! Current conditions:
  18. Our current position: I wandered up to the WJ to grab a coffee at 6:30, lots of folks milling around..
  19. We have begun the long trip to Geiranger. I got up around 5:30 . A few pictures of the early portion.
  20. So, here are our plans in port: Geiranger - no set plans. We pick up the pilot at 5am, with arrival about 10am. From our aft balcony we hopefully will get a great view, weather permitting. I will set my alarm for 4:45. Sunrise is about 3:38am, sunset 11:26pm !!!!! Honninsvag - We arrive 6/21 at 3pm, we have a tour booked with Blue Puffin to go to the North Cape. We toyed with doing the 9:30pm one, but by the time I was willing to change it, there was no room so we are doing it at 3:30pm Sun is up all day!! We overnight in Honninsvag and depart 6/22 at 4pm. June 22nd is my birthday and it is also my wife’s birthday. Nice to celebrate it at the top of the world, well almost! Alesund — We booked a tour with aviator to tour around the area. About 4 hours as I recall. Flam — Gotta do the railway! This is the only tour we booked through Royal. I booked it awhile ago, before the train tickets were available for purchase on your own. We decided to just keep what we had. Includes a snack and visit the hotel at the top of the fjord. Olden — We booked the Loen Skylift, with transfers, through norwayexcursions.com . We plan on having lunch at the Hoven restaurant at the top. Looks cool. My son and DIL will probably disappear down some hiking trail at some point before we head back down. Molde — nothing booked here, hopefully an opportunity to just wander. Our excursions are heavily influenced by the need to bring the folding wheelchair along. Most of the excursions offered are not compatible with that. Since the attractions in Norway are the fjords and scenery, we will use our aft balcony a lot! This is our current location: And this is the current view off the starboard side: The ships horn is blowing about every 5-10 minutes. Next up: Geiranger ! mac_tlc
