I agree - in terms of cruiselines, it is definitely not just Princess that is taking so long to refund. I am waiting on refunds from both Carnival and NCL as well and both have been silent. For the other two lines, I opted for a full refund and for Princess I opted for FCC with refund of port fees/grats/shorex/refundable air. I did this because I knew I would 100% be sailing with Princess again and even had the replacement cruise picked out ready to book. However, I won't rebook it until I see some of what they owe me come back my way.

I have no doubt that the refunds, both in their complexity (it's not, after all, just a straight full refund) and volume will take as long as they say. I don't believe it's just a push of a button. Since this mess started, I have been helping out the company I worked with for 13 years - it's a performing arts company and they had to cancel their shows due to the virus. They offered ticket holders either a full refund, a switch to a future performance (like an FCC?) or the option to donate the money spent on the ticket to the company. Because there were options, the refunds needed to be processed manually, one by one. For this company (and I suspect most) there are only 2 people with authority to process refunds - this is required for compliance and prevention of fraud. Both these people were working from home at the same time as having to deal with kids that are no longer at school. For "my" company, the number of ticket holders was "only" just over 6,000 - nothing like the volume Princess has. The two agents, working 7 hour shifts, 5 days a week, took just over a month to complete them. They started Match 16th and finished April 17th. This was the ONLY thing they worked on during this time. So, yes, I do believe it will take up to 90 days.

I am trying to be patient and will wait it out. What I find frustrating is the lack of communication. I know that they have just put a note on their website regarding the time it will take, so that's a step in the right direction. Would it be so hard to send out an automated email saying "Thanks for your patience"? Would it be so hard to give an idea of where in the process they are? They say they are processing by sailing date but then we hear of people who had sailings in April or May get refunds, while those of us in March are still waiting.....That is my only beef with Princess (and the other two lines) - just communicate a little better!

    Hi

I sense you and I are handling the wait in the same manner.. trust in Princess and a healthy dose of patience.

Your personal experience in dealing with performance ticket refunds is extremely relevant so thank you for sharing. I think that is great  insight into the complicated process this is for Princess and all other companies in the same ‘boat’.

I agree that Princess could add a line to the emails I continue to get with a ‘thank you for your patience ; we are working on April 1-5 sailing dates now’ as an example.

in any case, it definitely will take more than just a click of a mouse.!

ps I have my replacement cruise picked out too!

This has been our experience too with other travel venders but somehow Princess is just not up to the task with their continual excuses and delayed time lines......Love Boat = No Refund Boat!

It's a shame but they have lost our goodwill and trust and probably any future business too at this point....

I see two camps here.. those willing to be patient and those throwing in the towel and either say ‘never again’ or ‘probably never again’ as they feel Princess is too slow or downright delaying paying money refunds.

i invite you to pop over to read a few other cruise line boards here in CC .  I realize only a very few ,maybe 5% of all cruisers, are here on CC.
But I cannot see where other cruise lines are fairing any better than Princess. I read through Royal Caribbean and Celebrity to compare other mass market lines NOT in CCL.

I plan to take Princess , and Jan Swartz,   at their word and give Princess the chance to make it right.

  3. For another set of POV , opinions, and comments, pop over to the Princess cruises FB page. Princess pops on from time to time to comment but some there have received refunds and/or FCC. Seems a more 'balanced' set of views expressed with many expressing compassion and patience.

Not saying anything other than its good to hear from others rather than just here on CC.

Yes, I'm still waiting for my refund.

We were some of the many who were notified by Princess on March 12 of a cancelled cruise and we too submitted our request form for option 2 the same day.

I recall that at that time I understood that Princess was saying they needed 30 days to issue the refund but, in going back over my emails, I don't see that stated.  Can anyone point me to where they said this?  Or, was it just wishful thinking on my part?  (I doubt that 30 days is something I'd come up with on my own, but I would like to check).

    Thanks!

    here...i posted it later on...

As a former auditor, this is one of the most egregious issues with Princess’s systems:  things disappear (meaning the passengers can no longer see them) long before credits are being received. Same thing with FCDs...when they are cancelled, they are gone in a second, but the refunds are not appearing for months. Save screen captures, Booking IDs, and Credit IDs; I know of no other way for us to ask for status updates from Princess, nor to prove their existence.

Actually my FCD still shows .. but it shows as having been using for voyage # xyz123

thus leaving me with $0 FCD and $0 OBC.

Princess posted a reply on their latest Youtube video on the new cruise cancellations saying that they hope to have all refunds processed by June and that they are working in the other of when the cruise was supposed to sail. My cruise was supposed to go March 21 but I have yet to receive any refund or FCC so maybe it means this whole situation is just taking a very, very long time.

Thanks for the Youtube link with updates. I was just on princess website and didn’t see this posted .. or at least not prominently.

I wonder if the people who contest the charge on their credit card will lose their status in Captains Circle.

Why Daniel would you even post that?

People are under enough stress and frustration dealing with the facts while waiting to get their money back but to deliberately throw out your thoughts...based on nothing concrete ...only adds more fuel to this dumpster of concern.

I think you meant that as your 'inside voice' that just slipped out.

May we ALL see our money back and the world return to better healthier times so we and Princess can get back to 'normal' whatever that may look like.

    Have a good day.

    Details... 😂

Speaking of details.. the OP of this thread asked if people were getting their refunds back to their credit cards yet.

The first few early replies were YES but it appears the tsunami of refunds have now delayed it for the rest of us.

I am interested only in people letting us know when they eventually DO get a refund to give the rest of us all hope..TIA.

The rest of the financial ins and outs completely out of our control so I’m not spending a moment ‘worrying’ about it.

At this point, there is no reason to call Princess or even your TA if you have submitted the form and received a receipt.  You either will or won't get a refund and wringing your hands here won't get it any faster.  Like everyone else, I filed the form....Carnival has $6 billion.....my fare is less than that.....I'm just waiting.

Scooch over .. I’ll sit beside you.. ok Not right beside...six feet away...and wait with you. 😊

Well filed my dispute with my credit card companies for my money. Seems I will get my monies faster than the cruise company is offering. That’s real sad that I had to go this route for the refund.  This also forces the company to respond in a timely manner or the charges automatically get reversed, according to the credit card companies.

It will be Interesting now if your dispute will hasten the rest of those With $$ owing,

FWIW our cruise was cancelled by Princess on 3/7 while we waited at the terminal to board - some 8 hrs after we got there ready to board. We received every penny back automatically on 3/11 and 3/12, including all cabin fares, pre-paid gratuities, specialty dining reservations, and the 2 or 3 excursions we pre-booked. Every single penny, credited on a per-cabin or booking # basis (we had 3 separate bookings/mini's for 7 pax). We also got a FCC of equal value to the cancelled cruise for each of the 7 passengers thru 3/31/2021.  However, the $300 per each of our 3 bookings we were promised to defray the cost of 1 night's hotel in the area has yet to come, even though we faxed AND mailed those on 3/8, or the day after the cancellation. So, that's the only delay we are experiencing. Our 7 FCC's are still reflected in our accounts' FCC page.

I think your cruises and others cancelled the day of got almost instant refunds as I guess princess assumes those passengers were the most inconvenienced. Maybe the refunds are coming ‘ in order ‘ of cruise date as if the Inconvenience diminishes the further away your cruise Date.

our cruise date was April 19.

This is interesting - I just looked at your post history. I cancelled March 6th for an April 19th cruise. I was in 75% penalty. I have yet to receive anything yet (except for excursions that I cancelled myself). I just have faith it will all work out.

I too am waiting for several thousand dollars From Princess Since March 6. . I agree the 90 days is over reaching our patience but this was what one phone rep said; not an official princess policy in print.
I will be patient until after Easter which will be close to 6 wks. I think that is reasonable given the extraordinary circumstances.

May 9th and we were 60 days out so we were right in the deposit cancellation fee period for our cruise length (11 days).

    Coral and AZBirdmom

i Cancelled mar 6 , got 50% back Mar 9 then when princess cancelled our cruise I filled in new form on Mar 12 for  option B .
no more money back on credit card so looks like they are not handling on first come first serve. AZBirdmom you got lucky.

hopefully the rest of us will too.

It was going to be my first TA and was going to hit some places I hadn't done either (including those you listed). I also wanted Bruges. Ending in Paris was going to be a highlight. One day!

I love Bruges but since we have done that on a river cruise, we were going to head out into the country to ?Damme I think it was called. But as Medieval cities go, it is pretty special.

Paris also a fav to visit...we often fly there enroute home to make the most of the TA journey.

    Some day....*dreamy eyes*

I just looked at your signature and I was going to be on your cruise plus the British Isles afterwards. I didn't get involved in your roll call because I booked this trip late (January) and your roll call was way too busy for me to get caught up on. I did join the roll call for the cruise after. I was going to end in Paris (as opposed to Southampton) and spend a few days there before flying home.

I never joined the roll call...I do recognize your call name tho 🙂

and I am too sad to remove that cruise from my signature...still grieving I guess as this TA (would be our 4th) was going to check off a couple more things on the bucket list...Bilboa for the Guggenheim Museum and a visit to Stonehenge on a post cruise transfer to LHR. I checked on the TA for next year and this itinerary isnt being offered. The other stops we've done but were planning something new at them.

My cruise was 26 nights so it falls under a different cancellation rate. If I had waited until 3/7, I would have been in 100% cancellation rate. This was a B2B and I booked it as one cruise. Looking back, it would have been smarter to book it as 2 cruises but it was much more expensive.

It was frustrating as all of my fellow cruisers were in 50% and I was almost in 100%. It was celebrating a big milestone birthday so I wanted to do something big for it. I had taken care of a parent previously and had never been able to get away for one of the big birthdays, or any birthday for that matter.

Sailings 25 days or more (including Full World Cruise & World Cruise Segments)
Days prior to Cruise or Land Package Departure Item(s)* Assessed Cancellation Fee
120 days or more None None
90 to 119 days Cruise fare Deposit^ Amount
64 to 89 days All Items 50% of Total Charges
43 to 63 days All Items 75% of Total Charges
42 days or less All Items 100% of Total Charges

oh.....yes that is unfortunate. Ours was the 15 day transatlantic. I didn't realize that different length cruises had different rules. Learn something every day...ok, well maybe not EVERY day but today anyways!

are you sure it was in the 75% range? I thought that was 30 days or under...according to my final payment doc it says

    CANCELLATION SCHEDULE
    Date Fee
    21-Jan-20 130.00 Per Person    23-Feb-20 50.0 % of Total Charges   22-Mar-20 75.0 % of Total Charges
    05-Apr-20 100.0 % of Total Charges

I read this mean if you cancel BETWEEN Feb 23 and Mar 22, you are in the 50% range.

AFTER Mar 22 you are in the 75% range.

I am also confused, that way it sounds is Princess is trying to distance themselves from reimbursement of the funds. If I don’t get my monies back within 60 days will be filing credit card disputes for all transactions. Will be keeping copies of all media releases for evidence.

Ok good to know it wasnt just me.. I agree with you I wonder if our option 2 of 100% cash back plus sliding scale of FCC is being clawed back.

I kept my email Confirmation. For anyone who didn’t get one, check your SPAM THATs where mine went to.
