  1. Somewhere deep in my attic is a souvenir 1964 Worlds Fair metal serving tray similar to this. Except it's heavily used. A lot of scratches, chips in the paint and maybe a few dents when I used it as a Frisbee. Later on, my siblings lamented the beating it took as they thought it would be worth a lot of money someday. A quick look on eBay (where I found this picture) reveal an asking price of $15 - $20 dollars. Not exactly enough to buy that beach house. Glad I played with it. 🙂 There is also a tattered guide book
  2. I personally like this version of the song. Song begins about 30 seconds into the video.
  3. My memories of the 1964/65 Worlds Fair is.........nothing. I was 9 months old when my parents took me. 😊
  4. Prices are definitely up, especially after the last 3 years. Portions are pretty big, sometimes I take left overs home which becomes the next days lunch. My nephew, even though he's in his 30's, posses the same quality as @A&L_Ont Owen in that he can inhale large quantities of food in the blink of an eye. 🙂
  5. I'm pretty sure the New City Diner holds the record for largest & thickest diner menu. It would take 30 minutes to look thru and by the time you got to the end, you would've forgotten what was in the beginning. Unfortunately , the original New City Diner is no longer in business having been taken over and renamed. I recently went to the Stateline diner - aptly named as it sits on the border of NY/NJ - with my nephew. At 16 pages, I feel like the menu is only half the size of New City Diner menu. The Greek Specialties and Mediterranean Cuisine would have taken 1-2 pages each, here they are combined onto one page. And of course, just reading about the desserts does not do it justice, they need to be seen in the 6 foot tall rotating glass case. I too, was amazed how they were able to store all the food. Every diner must've had an underground bunker the size of an Royal ship. I've attached a PDF of the menu. First time attaching a PDF. Hope it works. Stateline-Diner-dinner-menu.pdf
  6. I did. And thank you for benefit of the doubt but it was probably my lack of attention to detail. Often times I'm multi tasking or more likely, watching Lenoard watching a squirrel out the window.
  7. @dani negreanu You have a beautiful family and thank you for sharing your trip of a lifetime with us. I'm sure I can speak for all when I say The Bitter part of your trip saddens all of us. Hopefully, DS will settle in a place with a gourmet kitchen with Dad-Enabled appliances to lure your husband and you to make as many frequent trips as possible. 🙂
  8. I've never had an issue with any of the Samsung Galaxy S phones and have gotten many years of use out of each model. A few people I know have had lousy luck with the budget Samsung Galaxy A-series phones. Sluggish performance, batteries don't hold a charge long, etc. 3 of the 4 Samsung TV's I had died within 4 years of purchase. However, the pictures were impressive the short time I had them, The 4th one is a hand-me-down Plasma model from 2014/15. The pixels on it are beginning to die resulting in a sometimes grainy picture when displaying bright colors. I have a LG Nano TV for 5 years with no issue & will probably purchase another one soon, to replace the plasma model.
  9. 🤦‍♂️ Thank you. Not sure why I didn't make the connection. 🤷‍♂️
  10. I used to go to the A&S at Paramus Park Mall. It's a Macy's now. I was a kid when my parents would drag me to a Korvettes shopping trip. They loved it, had a little bit of everything, Sort of a smaller version of Walmart before Walmart was a thing. They also loved shopping at Alexander's Department Stores.
  11. Question: What is GSJ? I've seen in referenced several times by several different posters Grand Suite Journal? Garden State Journey? Great Scott, Jerry?
  12. I'm adding your Amsterdam trip report to my reading list. 🙂
  13. Good choice on the GE. I am of the mindset that many high-end appliances with all the extra bells-n-whistles just have more things to break. I don't need a refrigerator to tell me its time to buy more milk or a wife-enabled stove so I can start pre-heating it when I'm a 5 minute drive away. Although a dishwasher that can unload itself might be nice. 😃 EDIT: The Samsung refrigerator I've had for 10+ years would be considered an entry-level model for a french door, bottom freezer model. There were ones that cost twice as much with a lot of extra features that were of no interest, plus we where on a budget at the time.
  14. Interesting but makes sense. Full disclosure: I've never sailed anything but the Caribbean so I'm unaware if the demographics of your cruise enjoy sunbathing or even if the weather was conducive to sunbathing. I might have missed it but did you answer my question in post #314? I'll re-state it here: "I did have a question about a statement you made with regards Royal sending their one of their worst ships to the UK. Would your travel to another country to try one of their more highly rated ships? I saw you used up the last of your FCC's so it seemed unlikely but as a Diamond member, could you be lured to try another ship/destination?" For the record, since several other of your fellow Brits echoed many of the same complaints (less aggressively worded, of course) that you had, I have no doubt that there are real and valid complaints.
  15. Were the other 4,000 chairs locked away in storage? If not, where did they go? I've never been on a cruise where they only have loungers for 20% of the passengers.
  16. I did know that as well. I might have been a bit of a Titanic nerd after watching the movie A Night to Remember. However, it just dawned on my now the name of the submersible is Titan. Also, Titanic had 2 sister ships - the Olympic and Britannic. The Britannic was launched in 1914 but did not see any passenger service due to WW1. She sank in 1916 after hitting a mine. Only Olympic would have a successful career well into the 1930s. EDIT: Sorry, I geeked out for a bit. Told you I was a bit of a Titanic nerd.
  17. I read that also. Isidore was co-owner of Macy's Dept stores at the time as well as Abraham & Strauss - a regional NYC store similar to Macy's, based in Brooklyn but also had stores in lower NY, NJ, CT and PA. I've watched the 1958 movie called "A Night to Remember", a factual account of the sinking of the Titanic, several times. Read the book by Walter Lord several times as well. In the movie - and in real life - both Isidore and his wife Ida are offered a place in a lifeboat by the ships officers. Isidore refuses as its "women and children first". Ida then refuses as well despite Isidore imploring her to get on the life boat, she famously tells him "I will not be separated from my husband. As we have lived, so will we die, together." Ida gave her maid her fur coat and insisted she get into a lifeboat. Isidor and Ida were last seen on deck arm in arm; multiple eyewitnesses described the scene as a "most remarkable exhibition of love and devotion". Jame Cameroon 1997 movie "Titanic" is a technical masterpiece accurately describing the physical sinking of the ship but he totally botches this story line, showing them for 2 seconds incorrectly huddled in bed together without a word being spoken. Cameroon is very loosey-goosey with many of the facts which is why in my mind, the movie is okay but not great. IMHO, of course. 🙂
  18. I was thinking the same thing. I've read enough about what the conditions might've been like in there for the past 4 days. It'll probably be weeks or months before we find out - if we find out - what the exact cause and timeline was. I just hope it was quick and over before they knew it.
  19. I love that the team mascot is named Kevin. BTW, the group that is calling for the name change is suggesting "Macon Facon Bacon". Seriously. I can't make this up. I might need to make a road trip to check out a game & sample the ballpark menu which includes: bacon-wrapped bacon, steak-cut bacon, bacon-loaded cheese fries and bacon chips. https://www.wral.com/story/group-promoting-plant-based-eating-wants-a-new-name-for-macon-bacon-baseball-team/20923198/
  20. Absolutely nothing. Just responding to a side conversation now that this thread has run it's course and devolved into a "Royal Sucks" vs "No it doesn't" shouting match. I'm not demeaning your posts or thread. After all, It was your cruise experience and it did not meet your expectations. That's fair. I did skim through your posting history and it does seem you tend to have a mostly negative view of Royal. Not sure if there are any other cruise lines you are comparing it to. I did have a question about a statement you made with regards Royal sending their one of their worst ships to the UK. Would your travel to another country to try one of their more highly rated ships? I saw you used up the last of your FCC's so it seemed unlikely but as a Diamond member, could you be lured to try another ship/destination?
  21. Happy belated birthday. I just finished re-watching Season 2 of Succession as it's been 4 years since I last watched it and forgot a lot of what happened. Unfortunately, i did see a spoiler or two about what happens in Season 4 but I'll still wach all the episodes as i think the acting is fantastic and the writing is very creative and witty. So the finale of Season 2 featured this beauty as the star of the show. https://www.charterworld.com/news/solandge-yacht-succession Their private super-yacht a.k.a. mini-cruise ship in the Mediterranean. At a $1,000,000 USD (2019 plus expenses for food, fuel, etc.) for a week, could this be used for Bella 3? Too bad it only sleeps 12. Might need to kick off some of the 29 crew members. 😀 EDIT: I might need to start watching Below Deck if this is the type of yachts they feature.
  22. That last part is impressive. My nephew brought a flask with him when trying to get into Madison Square Garden. He also hid it outside, in a crevice behind some scaffolding. It was gone when he came out. He thought he was sure that nobody saw him hide it. There were one or two large rats around so perhaps one of them scurried off with it. 😄
