  1. I booked a Norway cruise on MSC for June 2024. I'm not having much luck trying to find independent excursions for the ports we have. There's nothing loaded on the cruiseline's website so I have no clue what they offer. Ideally we'd like to book independent excursions. We call on Bergen, Molde, Trondheim, Honningsvag, Tromso and Alesund. The advice I've gotten so far from my research is to get as high as possible for good views and to get on the water to see the nooks and crannies of the fjords. Any suggestions for tour companies, sights to see and just general advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
  2. Based on this we should be fine. We don't need top shelf liquors and my husband usually drinks around a $15 glass of wine. Wine is cheaper in Europe in general. We just got back from France and at one restaurant he thought he was ordering a glass and he ended up with a bottle. At home cocktails are $15 when on MSC they'd be covered under the package.
  3. I'm trying to figure out extra costs for our cruise next year. It is 11 nights from Hamburg to Norway. We'd like to upgrade 2 devices to the stream package. The browse package is fine for the 2 other devices we have. Does anyone have an estimate on how much it might cost pre cruise to upgrade? I checked the area where it is supposed to be listed but the only thing there is photo packages.
  4. Is there a dollar amount that determines what wine by the glass is available? I can't really judge what my husband's needs are in regards to wine but we did recently eat at a nice restaurant and the waiter told the table next to us not to buy the house wine but just get the next one up and it will usually be pretty decent. It seemed like good advice.
  5. We just flew business home from dropping our son off in France for study abroad and on the way home there was a couple in business and the dad slept the entire flight and their kid came from economy and needed something from the mom and she disappeared back to economy to deal with the kid. When we were booking the flights my husband asked me what I wanted to do and I asked him if he wanted me to say of course sweetheart I want to fly for 9 hours in the middle seat in economy. Our son is flying home from France by himself in business.
  6. My son is currently studying abroad in France and from my research butter isn't given with bread in Europe because it's not meant to be eaten by itself like Americans eat it. It's more for sauces. We're going to Europe for the experience not to Americanize it.
  7. I didn't book the Yacht Club because that just seemed too extra. Just like I wouldn't do Aqua Spa on Celebrity. Unfortunately we did fall into the trap of spoiling our child too young in life because on a recent trip I mentioned we may fly economy and he asked me what economy was. We probably should have been harder on him and us fly business and put him in economy.
  8. Would I need to purchase insurance now because I just booked it or could I purchase it after I buy airfare? I don't need the cancel for any reason kind because once we get to the point where we purchase air we are positive on our end we are going. I was looking at air today for this June to get an idea and the refundable fares were like $500 per person more than the nonrefundable. We would most likely be flying Lufthansa since they fly direct to Munich from our airport. We leave out of Hamburg. We just got screwed over by Lufthansa when Germany went on strike. We lost 2 days of our trip without any type of compensation because it was strike related. Our credit card didn't cover anything because we were delayed at home.
  9. How far out from the sailing do these cancellations with no notice usually take place? I won't be buying airfare until January but I'd rather not spend the extra money on refundable air.
  10. We are in Aurea. We usually prefer set dining and are not huge fans of anytime dining because our son has food allergies. Since it is summer in Norway and our sail away times are pretty late the anytime dining might be more handy. One of the benefits it lists in Aurea is in room breakfast. Does that mean cooked breakfast or just continential?
  11. Brand new to MSC and I chose the option to include the easy plus drink package in our booking. We aren't huge drinkers but we do have 4 sea days on our cruise which my husband usually passes by drinking. Normally on Celebrity I would upgrade my package to premium but it looks like we would need to upgrade all of them and we have our son who is an adult but isn't a drinker in our cabin so it doesn't really make sense to upgrade all of them. I'm a fruity and frozen drinker usually. Maybe some mojitos and mules. We both will drink mimosas and bellinis. My husband is more wine by the glass with the occasional Stella or Red Stripe. Will this package suit our needs? If a drink is over the package price do I pay the difference or the full price? Is the soda included only fountain soda or are cans included?
  12. I don't normally use TAs. What types of things can go wrong that I would need a TA to resolve?
  13. We actually have a suite booked so we aren't worried about the room being tight. Even a regular room is fine for the 3 of us since regularly share a hotel room or a cruise cabin.
  14. We've sailed pretty much most mass market cruise lines before. Our favorites are Celebrity and Princess. We didn't opt for Yacht Club because my husband wanted a particular corner suite. My first cruise was on Costa so we are okay with a more European cruise line. We didn't find anything wrong with Royal Caribbean except their very gelatinous desserts. Do they have bingo? My son has very good bingo luck so we like to try that out every cruise.
  15. I just booked a June 2024 Norway cruise on MSC last night after I let my husband watch a couple episodes of Mighty Ships. We've never sailed MSC or really heard anything about it. A Viking ship is what got my husband interested in the itinerary but they don't sleep 3. We'll have our 21 year old son with us. I booked the easy plus drink package. Is that usually suitable or should we upgrade for those of us who drink? We like good food so hopefully the food is good. Don't mind paying for a specialty restaurant or two. I think the ship we have booked is the Preziosa (sorry if I spelled that wrong). Any advice anyone can give would be great. TIA.
