We are scheduled to sail out of Baltimore on the Pride in January. Our final payment is due in October. I know that no decisions have been made as of yet as to when Carnival is going to start sailing again but I am afraid that they will end up cancelling until the beginning of the year. I'm not sure how I feel about being on one of the first ships to go out. I was thinking of calling Carnival to see if we could delay our final payment until December (30 days before sailing rather than 90) which will give us a little more time to see what is going on and how we feel about things. Has anyone ever asked for a delay in the final payment? I thought that I had read that they were doing that but now can't find where I read that so don't know if it was Carnival or some other line.

You might hold off until final payment due.  A lot can happen between now & then.  I haven't heard of delaying final payment, but of making a one time change without penalty.  Maybe book out later just before final payment is due.  You may end up with onboard credit then

I took a look at the cruises available by searching on Carnival's Web site for October (and only that month).  These are the things that caught my eye:

    • There were 75 results when I checked this yesterday.  Now it's down to 53.  Obviously some ships and their itineraries have been chopped.
    • Some ships are showing as unavailable for all of October - Breeze, Freedom, Glory, Horizon, Legend, Magic, Pride, Radiance, Vista, and Mardi Gras.  Of course the Mardi Gras and Radiance are being worked on and weren't ever going to be available in October.  Some of the others were on the "first eight" list from last month.  Could this be capacity control?  I can't imagine any of these ships being on the sales block (which might be another reason to stop selling berths on them), but the Legend and Pride are getting a little long in the tooth...
    • Of the available cruises, most are very short - 5 days or fewer.  Maybe there's a lobster shortage?  Just kidding.  Their thinking might be that shorter cruises might be better for now, or at least easier to sell to the CDC.
    • With these short cruises, I'm seeing a lot of ports you'd expect - Nassau, Freeport, HMC, Princess Cays, Cozumel, Progreso, Ensenada, Grand Turk, Amber Cove.  Key West was a bit of a surprise and I saw a couple heading to Grand Cayman - which I doubt will be open then. I only saw one cruise with Ocho Rios as a stop and I didn't see Costa Maya at all.
    • One of the cruises that caught my eye was the Miracle out of San Diego which offers two days in Cabo San Lucas.  "An overnight" was my initial thought.  But that's not what they're doing.  After a sea day, they stop at Cabo 9-6.  Then apparently they go out to sea and head back to Cabo from 7-4 the next day.  Then it's back to San Diego.  I've never seen a Carnival cruise with two stops at the same port on different days.  Is this a new cruise or has this always been around?
    • Ignoring the Australian cruises, the longest cruises I found were exactly 7 days - Mexican Riviera on the Panorama and the Eastern/Southern Caribbean route on the Fascination.
    • With a few exceptions, these cruises are at giveaway prices.  I wonder why...

Of course, this could all change by the time you take a look.  But this is what I found.  Strange days indeed... anyway, thanks for reading.

I am booked on the Miracle 5 days out of San Diego to Cabo in October.  Carnival just recently is cruising out of San Diego.  Carnival hadn't cruised from there for years.  On other cruises which were 7 days out of Long Beach some were 2 days Cabo and then a day at Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta.  You would have the option to stay overnight in Cabo, knowing that is a tender port & if they couldn't tender the next day you would be left there to find your way... Kind of risky, but many used to do it.

  3. I wish they would have made the BIG announcement today!  I don't consider that big news...I have 4 cabins booked for my family to all cruise on Halloween.  I have paid all deposits & will have to make final payments Mid August.

I would have to self quarantine for 14 days after...who can work & do that?  Not I, I would be flying from North Dakota to California.  I work  for the state & It is posted on our state website that anyone traveling out of the country must quarantine for 14 days!

I haven't even looked to see if Mexico will be open (Cabo).

I was told we can make a one time change without penalty...difficult to know when, especially with so many going.

I guess I won't say anything until it gets to be mid August, since my kids don't follow cruise news.  I haven't seen them in a year...this is disappointing, but at this point I would have rather heard the cancellation today

  4. I haven't been on here for a long time...Wondering if I should have been after reading some other threads.

I just booked 4 cabins today for 10/31/2020.

I haven't done insurance as there are a lot of people going and the cruise is very inexpensive for most cabins.

I will have to look around to see the what ifs???

I know our airfare will not charge change fees and we are the only ones flying to port.  The rest are an hour drive.

It is the best way to visit my adult children & grandson...better than a hotel, not imposing on them, get up when I want, go to sleep when I want.   No one has to cook or clean...I didn't even give much thought to possible postponements being extended!

  5. It would be great if Carnival would put a little sign showing GF available, for instance I just seen on CCL sight that fries were GF and now I read that the one's up front aren't.  To be able to have an option at lunch of some things from the buffet that might have GF available would be nice.  They might need to get it from the back, but would be nice.

I wonder if buffet or main dining room have gluten free buns?

I just did a search...I am so happy!!  I can have a GF bun with my Guy's Burger, GF pizza, breads, pasta, even chocolate melting cake, soft serve ice cream, etc.

Copied this from someone's post that was in a link from Carnival...

Carnival can provide our guests with meals suited to the following special dietary needs: vegetarian, low-cholesterol, low-fat, low-carbohydrates, low-sugar, and gluten free. Our chefs will make every effort to fulfill your requests, and will gladly prepare freshly-made options that meet your dietary needs. Once on board, we ask you speak with the headwaiter or dining room host in advance, so they can assist in planning your daily meals in the dining room. This will allow us the necessary time to prepare foods, as requested, in a timely manner.

Gluten-free pizza dough, pasta, bread for deli sandwiches, and hamburgers buns, as well as cake are available upon request. Plus, our frozen desserts and yogurt are gluten-free. All items are freshly prepared and may take a little longer than regular menu items. Gluten-free beer, Estrella Daura, is available for your enjoyment.

We also provide prepackaged kosher meals. If you're requesting kosher meals, you must let us know two weeks advance of your cruise.

Guests who require a different dining time than they chose when booking can change once on board the ship. Guests will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.

    Food Allergies:

We ask that you please inform our dining team of any food allergies and special preparation you may require to accommodate your allergy. Please discuss this the first evening of your cruise. Although there are a number of options at our various restaurants, special dietary and food requests can be accommodated in our main dining rooms only.

    Other Dietary Needs:

Although we do not have dietitians on board, we can offer assistance with simple requests such as the method of preparation of menu items. Diet requirements need to be arranged with the head waiter on the first night of the cruise. If dining in the Lido Restaurant, the guest should discuss requirements with senior dining staff.

Not GF specific but here’s how to work with allergies onboard—-

This is my basic post about allergies.....

Each ship seems to do things a little differently. This has been our experiences on the West Coast ships.

See the Hostess at embarkation when the Maitre 'd has hours. Hours will be in the FunTmes, usually starting around 1pm. The hostess will take that night's order. Each night the hostess or your waiter will bring you the next day's MDR menu-breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner. If deciding between two entrees, order both. For brunch don't hesitate to order a breakfast and lunch if you want to eat both meals in the MDR. At ATD, an order slip will be generated and given to your waitstaff when seated. They will confirm the order with you.

Only issue we've ever had was one cruise DD's food arrived before mine.

For room service, they cannot make special for you but they can tell you the ingredients. No special area so there is always the possibility of contamination

Buffet is a minefield. Ask the Hostess or the Head Lido Chef or the Food and Beverage crew in the officer whites. DO NOT ask the line cooks or those serving desserts. They mean well but do not know the full recipes. Cross contamination is always a possibility.

Onshore--- we bring allergy cards. I made our own but you can buy some at selectwisely dot com.

You can only bring off commercially prepared food. We bring cereal bars, boxes of cereal, bottled water, hard candy etc.

Many ports will check. Some will do a physical search, others use dogs. You do not want the cute Labrador to sit next to you. I've had them alert on my Lemonheads.

Kids clubs have a form to fill out. There are some snacks served at times. The younger kids meet up at the dinner buffet certain nights. Ask the counselors what's on the menu.

Thank you so much...glad I thought to do a search.  I didn't think Guy's had gf buns, it didn't show it online...only that their fries are and you could order it bunless.  I am super excited to try the French toast.  I was wondering about the pizza also...yay!  I have sailed many times, just never gluten free.  Thank you for all your info

  8. I became diamond a few cruises ago and when I inquired about the upgrade, I was told the expiration date doesn't apply.  Mine expired almost a year ago.  I am going in a few weeks, but it's just a short cruise and I didn't want to waste it on that...The hot streak deal is a great deal.  I am taking my daughters and could have done the 3rd person free, but it's so inexpensive I will save it for a Caribbean and get a balcony

  9. The schedule is only showing until April 3rd. My paper says to book between Jan 9th-21st (just got off cruise) How often do they add dates??? I have until July 6th to cruise, but have no intention of jumping on a ship in the next 2 months. Any one know???

  10. How many points do I need to earn on a 7 day cruise for a free cruise offer??? I have earned several in the past (leaving on New Year's Eve with having received on a 4 day) I don't know how many points I earned.

Is there a way to see how many points I earned last cruise??? I have read if I have 5000 from last cruise I will receive Drinks on Us. I am not sure if I had that many, just was a 4 day cruise, but I played a lot of slots ;)

Do the point requirements change depending on the length of the cruise???

    Thanks
